Is it worth to watch the anime(and movies) from the very beginning?

I've seen the anime when I was a child when the Season 1 first aired, but just some bits and pieces. Also, I've seen the very first movie, Pikachu's vacation and Mewtwo Strikes Back. Since then, I haven't seen any of the succeeding episodes and titles. I've played the games until Black and White era. Now I want you guys' opinion if it's worth it to start over and watch everything from the beginning, including the movies in a chronological order or is it not worth the effort?

I think it'd be fun as I personally believe that the original series was Pokemon's best series however it is not necessary.

I think it would be totally worth it, especially if you're a fan fiction writer.

i did something similar but mostlly with gyms, league, filllers I remember partially, but maybe try it when you will have your own kids, then it will be better.

I think it's fun to watch through the older series. Seeing the different characters, the different ideas they try out in every series and seeing how battles have changed between each series can be fun. It isn't necessary to do that. You can jump into the current SM series without having any knowledge of the previous series and you can follow along pretty well. Each series is pretty much standalone, even with having the same lead and being set in the same continuity.

As for whether or not it's worthwhile, that really depends on how much you enjoy the anime. If you enjoy it and like the idea of going through all of the series and movies, then I think it would be worth trying to watch the original series at least and see how you feel from that point forward.

I would highly recommend it. If you have enough time and motivation, I would do it. Each anime series has a different flavour and it's very nostalgic going back. I've watched every episode twice now and its really fun. Also, the seasons are all different so it doesn't matter where you start and it won't be confusing. However, you need to really like the anime and maybe you should see how you go with the first two seasons and if you start to get a bit bored then there is your answer. Also, the movies are completely different so you can do them all in one go if you wish but I don't know whether you can survive such a cheesefest

I started doing that in September 2016 with the chronological order of Japanese releases. The main show, the movies, shorts, etc. I can give you a link of the list if you need. It gets so dull at times, especially in Johto saga which feels like it takes forever. But with up and down sides, it is fun to go all the way from the beginning. I can't explain how exciting it is to wait for the movies. "Let's get done with these 10 episodes already, can't wait for the movie" is super exciting.

If you are truly Pokémon-fan, I would say you would enjoy going all the way. But otherwise, you might get bored in 1000~ episodes and many side episodes/movies/shorts. You decide.

I really appreciate your opinions guys. Now I'm convinced to watch everything again from the beginning.

I can truly relate. Would you mind giving me the list of the series and movies in the chronological way that they're supposed to be viewed?

I hope the new and old creators of the anime do new and old things more in future.
Seriously, we need more pokemon and more battles.

Well more battles would be a good thing but Pokemon is doing more filler episodes nowadays. Having battles that are good are not 30 secs long are a treat and nowadays I cannot wait for trials in SuMo. In terms of getting more Pokemon, that can only be done with the release of new gens. Also, sometimes the plot might not fit the Pokemon. For example, if their Pokedex entry doesn't match the plot, they won't put it in. But sometimes Pokemon try and make plots to revolve around certain Pokemon which I appreciate.

If you're planning on marathoning the entire show, I'd suggest to still take breaks between sagas.
I tried to re-watch the whole thing but got overloaded midway through the Orange Islands, even though I was actually enjoying most episodes.

or re-use of old pokemon like Jinx, Shedinja, Delibird and others more.
Some didnt get proper gym or league battles.

I liked battles like Pikachu vs Magmar in Kanto, Charizard vs Poliwrath on orange islands, all proper gyms and league battles that lastet longer. Hope they come in track like they were in gen III, I,, IV, V and VI more.

Thanks guys. I've decided to start from the very beginning. I'm already at episode 39 of the Indigo League Arc and so far I'm enjoying it.
Of course, with the occasional cringe from the cheesy dialogues. It's a show for kids after all. But for REAL Pokemon fans like us, this means nothing. We enjoy it as much as we enjoy the games. Thanks again everyone.

But the cringe is great the start because they don't mean to be cringey which is good!!!!

If you got the time it could be. On the other hand, watching all of the series from the beginning you might also start to get annoyed of the series because you see all the resets after good arcs like Diamond and Pearl or X and Y (XY and Z) just like us stone old fans.

I see. I just want to confirm that everything is a continuation, correct? Upon an end of a Season(Specific game region) and start of a new one, it is still a continuity, right? Not a reboot? I understand that Ash "doesn't" age even after all the time spent which is fine by me. I just want to make sure everything else is still connected from the very beginning.

Yes, everything is a continuous story. Despite people's annoyances with Ash starting over on his team with most new generations, Ash continues to develop each series with new friends and memories of everything that happened prior.

Yeah, every series is still set in the same continuity. The references to past series do reduce quite a bit once BW started, but that doesn't change that each series is set within the same universe.
