Ok, When I began HG I had a plan:Raise all my pokemon in my current party till they're all the same level(at first Lv.18,then 21,so on and so on.) .And I plan to do that....for every pokemon I'll ever catch until they all evolve(if they can). Is that just pointless?

Not really, it's actually a good idea to train them evenly, although I'm a bit more lax about keeping them exactly even - it can be irritating if you're in an area where one or two really shine in battles against the pokemon you run into, but the rest are super-weak to them.

What I do is whenever I have a choice as to which pokemon I use, I'll use the lowest-leveled one I have which can effectively take down whatever Pokemon I'm running into. I don't really worry too much about keeping them all exactly the same level; I just try to keep them all within 3 or 4 levels of the average.

No, that's a very good idea. I am absolutely a hardass when it comes to even raising. I will ignore type advantages if it means Furret gets a level.

Nope, I do it too. I think it's pretty useful, because then you don't have to compensate for a Pokemon on your team that's vastly weaker than the others.

training them evenly is great, but with the levels in HGSS it will take some time.

For your team, that is wise and worth doing. It prevents any of them from becoming too weak to catch up.

For all of them? Enjoy grinding for hours and hours.

No, that is actually a pretty good method to do. In the end all of your Pokemon will be about the same level and you will have a well rounded team to use.

Keep going in that direction and you should be pretty good. I would just check the next Gym Leader's Pokemon and make sure to be a level or two above them.

Er...That might be taking it a little too far. Try focusing exclusively on Pokemon that you'll actually use on your in-game team first, and then once you've cleared the storyline, then go back and worry about all the Pokedex Fodder you've captured along your journey. That's what I always do.

In both Platinum and HeartGold I made sure my team (excluding my HM Slaves) was always at the same level if possible. It's really useful, as you don't have to worry about keeping your 'strongest' safe as much, as they can share the load if you get into a tight spot.

so for every pokemon you catch, you will keep at the same level as all the other pokemon in your entire pokedex.

if you want the easy way to evolve pokemon, give a lvl 1 hatched pokemon an exp share and do pokemon league -- it'll probably get upto about level 25, maybe... i gave riolu exp share and it grew from Level 1 to Level 13 from a lvl 55ish gyarados

The majority of the replying people did not read the whole post. Congratulations.

For the party of six Pokémon you're using to complete the storyline, it's a good habit to train them equally. For the other Pokémon you catch in the wild, it's really not, unless you're planning to catch only few extra Pokémon to your PC. You're otherwise going to do a lot of excessive training.
