This is something I've been considering for a while... I've seen a couple of people bring it up as a possibility but I think it's an idea that has definite weight to it. What if what we've been thinking about Satoshi travelling to the Alola region to attend school is wrong, but rather he and his mom are moving there?

There's a couple of reasons I think this, first of all...
- Hanako is taking her Barrierd with her, something she didn't do when she went on vacation to Isshu.
- Moving to Alola would help to give Satoshi a real reason for going to school... maybe its required in Alola that all potential trainers do the Island Trials first and school is required to do that. It would certainly make more sense than Satoshi travelling across the world just to sit in a classroom.
- The Sun and Moon demo shows that our protagonist, Sun, moved to Alola from Kanto which would allow the game and anime to tie in nicely. Also, distancing Satoshi's home from Okido's lab would enable to writers to skip visits whenever Satoshi goes home (because god forbid we ever see Kenji or all his older Pokemon again).

What does everyone else think of this possibility?

The idea makes sense except for the part that Ash is staying with Kukui rather than his mother.

Unless his mother is staying there as well, then I don't think they have moved.

I don't think that they'll have Ash move to Alola. It would tie in with the live action trailers and especially with the playable trainer moving to Alola from Kanto, but it seems kind of late to suddenly do that when he has always identified himself as Ash from Pallet Town. It would provide more of an explanation as to why Ash is going to the trainer school if it is some kind of requirement for every trainer in the Alola region though.

It's a definite possibility but I really hope it's not the case.

I hope not. Kanto is where it all began. To leave it all behind doesn't seem right to me.

The demo makes me think Satoshi is S&M MC's father.

Oddly enough, I honestly also thought the guy that sent Sun Greninja was Ash, because it has all the same moves Ash's Greninja has (save for Night Slash) and the sender forgot to leave their name and address in the letter, which sounds exactly like something Ash would forget to do.

I guess I would really like to see what would happen with all the mon that are residing at Oak's lab if Ash and his mother did indeed move to Alola.

They'd probably be brought to Alola and stay in the Poké Pelago, much like your PC Pokémon do in the SM game. At least, I hope that that's what happens with them.

I doubt that they're moving there since it has been stated that Ash lives with Kukui while he's at the school. If he and his mom had moved there, they'd have their own house so there'd no real reason for him to stay at Kukui's place (unless he just wanted to for funsies).

I don't think they would have really done that. As people have mentioned, he is living with Kukui. I guess Ash, his mom, and Mimey just went on a vacation, and Ash saw this really cool school that related to the Island Trials in Alola. He tells his mom that he really wants to go to school, maybe to partake in the Island Trials (if that is what he will be doing after he completes the trials. Though it doesn't seem so, since 4 of the Trial Captains are in school with him). His mom agrees (finally her son can get an education!) and she goes back to Kanto, after a while, leaving Ash to stay with Kukui.

I'm pretty sure if non-Unova Pokemon were allowed to be in the first part of Best Wishes Delia would have brought Mime Jr with her. Besides, people bring their pets with them on vacation all the time and Mime Jr is definitely more important than a pet. As for the school, the rule about Alolan trainers needing to attend before Island trials could still apply to Ash even if he doesn't live there. It's not like they'd go "well shoot you're from another region so you can bypass this regulation". Also didn't the playable character in RSE move to Hoenn from Johto?

What I'm trying to say is that while it's not impossible, it's super unlikely and it would be weird for Ash to come back to Alola after every journey instead of Kanto.

Of course there's the possibility that they do a troll move and everyone on this forum gets really het up, only for Hanako to decide to move back to Kanto at the end of the saga...

Considering how much the series falls back on the Kanto region even to this day since it was the original region, I could never see Ash moving away from it. It would make finals really awkward to have Ash go to Kanto just to see his Oak'd Pokémon, to Alola to visit his mother, then on to the next new region.

At most, this is a temporary retreat and Ash and his mother will simply return back to their house in Kanto when they have no more business in Alola. Besides, Delia would never be permanently apart from Oak. ;)

I think they may play the troll, and make at the start of the series as if Ash is moving to Alola. All the Region Deila and Mimey stay in Alola. And after the league ends, news arrives that Ash's cottage/house has caught fire, and they have to move back to Kanto. Poof! Everyone trolled.

The latest live action trailer showed the kid moving back to his place. So maybe that is possible.
