is saving before important battles such as legendary pokemon cheating? i have always since i gained common sense saved before battling the champion or a rare pokemon, i have always considered it a part of the game however looking at it that would be considered cheating in other games, until now i haven't seen it as cheating do u consider it cheating?

I don't really look at it that way. Whether you actually capture a Pokemon is based entirely on chance unless you have a Master Ball, so you could fight and fight until you run out of Poke Balls against a legendary Pokemon, do absolutely nothing wrong, and still miss your chance to get that legendary. Being able to save first makes sense.

As for the Champion and situations like that, I figure that Game Freak could implement a way to throw you out if you reset, if they thought that it was cheating and wanted to do so. Doesn't that happen at certain battle facilities?

It's hard to compare to other games, which just give you a Game Over screen if you fail and let you reload your last save anyway.

In front of a Legendary Pokemon, no. Anything could happen to cause it to faint (accidental KO on a critical hit, recoil that causes them to faint, running out of balls) and you should be able to have that chance to try again should you fail and it is out of your control.

In front of bosses like Gym Leaders and Rival battles and the like...well, that's more to opinion, I suppose. I guess it could be seen as obvious cheating to lose to your rival and restart because you didn't want to lose and go grind so that you don't lose on your second try. Even more so if you didn't know what to expect and restart now knowing what they have on their team. Then again, some people may think of it differently.

I remember in Red and Blue there was this official guide book you could buy to go with it and in there Professor Oak openly endorsed saving before fighting legendaries.

I wouldn't say so with legendary Pokémon for sure. If you fail to catch it or it knocks out your entire team you'd have to spend more money on Poke Balls and go all the way pack to where it was to try it again which is just a big waste of time and money imo. Not to mention if you forgot something, like a specific Poke Ball or healing items and you fail the first time, you can go back and get those things without wasting all of the items you had before hand.

For certain battles like rivals and E4, I wouldn't call it cheating per say. I always thought of it focusing more on not wanting to challenge them until you know you're ready and/or not wanting to pay them money should you lose due to certain circumstances.

This question is like asking if RNG abuse is wrong since its in the game. The answer is no. If it is in the game you can use it to the full extent. Its your game play it how you want.

Not at all, if the game didn't want you to do it you wouldn't be able to. It's actually a smart thing to do. With gym battles you can either gain exp by not saving before but lose money, it's all on how you like to play the game. I always save, that money is mine!

I'd say it isn't cheating, and think of it in fact as very necessary if a trainer is trying to catch for EVs, Nature, and make sure that the Pokemon is caught without ending up losing it the rest of the game. It can be very easy to knock them out at times.

What do you considered as "cheating"? Do you need Gameshark code to save a game? Do you need a cheating device to save at a specific moment? Do you utilize any cheating methods such as those available on the emulators to just save the game at any moment of your choice?

NO!!!

That is a built-in saving mechanism of Pokemon game that allows you to save at any time and anywhere, no specification and no limitation. So why that is cheating, when the game was programmed to be like that from the very beginning?

It is just common knowledge for gamers to utilize the available system to full potential in order to suit one's need.

If you don't like to utilize the system in such way, that is just the gaming style of certain specific gamer. No one will criticize you if you play in a way that make things more difficult / easier for yourself, especially when the system allows that legitimately.

Pokemon, no

Trainer, yes. If you turn it off after losing anyway, like say if you lose to the third E4 or something

If so, then I'm the Ashley Cole of Pokémon, because I do it all the time and have done for as long as I can remember.

It's taking advantage of your assets. It's there for you to use, in an ordinary game with no alterations. Ergo, it's not cheating.

Not at all. If anything, it really is a good idea to save before fighting a legendary you want to catch because who knows what may happen during the fight.

If that would be considered cheating, the game would disable the "Save" option. Or else, it would automatically save your game when you lose, pretty much like when you go into a Battle area...
