I have seen much threats about how unimportant and annoying is to see in every episode Team Rocket (Jessie, James and Meowth). If they werent there almost all the fun just disappears. They are like the comedians of the show. Also if they werent there Ash wouldnt run in all of those troubles. That means only walking in one town to another and think of that...Who knows when Ash's Sceptile would learn how to make its attacks (after evolving from Grovile in the Battle Frontier)? And when the Hoenn began Pikachu was sick...IF they werent there with theire machine who knows what could happen. It seams Team Rocket doesnt understand that that they are helping Ash improving his skills!
Post your comments.I'm sorry for any misstakes.

Well, TR was actually partly responsible for Pikachu's electric flu.

But I agree with you that Team Rocket are definetely the needed comic relief, and without a foil for Ash and co., the show would be a little boring, and while it would be nice to see how the writers would handle an episode without Team Rocket for once, but I don't see that happening, and I usually look forward for their appearance, especially their motto. The whole idea of having an obsession of reciting a lengthy poem every time is just hilarious.

And yes, TR has helped Ash's Pokémon to become stronger, and I personally love the episodes where TR and the twerps work together. Not to mention that the good guy-motto in movie 2 was one of Team Rocket's most awesome moments.

EDIT: All right, so to answer the question, YES, while they're not too prominent plot-wise, they are important to the show.

In some eps they're important and in others they're just filler to give the ep a kind of climax.

However considering they're in every single episode sans the first, then yes.

Team Rocket's role is important, so if you simply removed them from the show, it would be bad. However, the characters themselves are not quite as important, as their removal would be fine, and preferable to some fans, as long as their comic relief/villain roles are filled by other characters.

I realy like the show as it is.I dont want to remove anybody. If we remove Ash the whole series will be for nothing if the story doesnt last till thye very end.If we remove Brock then who will take care of the pokemon who will cook and everything.Only the girls can be removed AT THIS POINT but like I said I like the show as it is now.

The cooking and taking care of Pokemon was not even a problem in the OI, so even that's not a valid reason for Brock to stay.

As for the topic, they can do it if they can find a way to give villainous roles to the replacements. As for Comic Relief part, let's just leave it at having one of the heroes being the Comic Relief. I mean, sometimes, the "bad" comic relief isn't needed. Take "Dragon Ball Z", for example. It didn't have any "bad" comic relief at all in that series (or, at least, no long-lasting "bad" comic relief, that is), and that anime/manga did more than just fine. If DBZ can do that, who says that Pokemon can't?

I'd like to see Team Rocket stick around, though it'd be nice to see a change in the traditional formula the show uses them for. Face it, we know that deep down, Team Rocket is good (the trio, that is). Arguably, some of the best episodes in the show are those that focus on or prominently feature Jesse, James and Meowth.

I'm not exactly up to date on how the series is today, but memory says that Jesse is actually quite capable in contest battles. Why not have James pick up the slack too, and become something of a rival to Ash, not as serious as the one between Gary or Paul, but enough to make battlign Team Rocket more exciting beyond a giant robot Meowth. XP

As far as I know, DBZ doesn't have the same kind of repetitive plot structure, season after season, as Pokemon. That's why.

At this point, getting rid of TR would be like getting rid of Ash -- in theory, the show would still be the same, but in reality, nothing would be the same. So yes, I would say that Team Rocket is VERY important.

well said.

A villain for Ash and co. to be pitted against is important, but I think they should change JJ&M to good guys and friends of Ash. Have them turn on TR and help Ash defeat them!

Team Rocket have been the main antagonists for twelve years. If that's not important, I don't know what is.

I'd also like to throw in that the Rocket-Dan episodes tend to be the most dramatic of the show. It's really great how we get such a wide range of emotions from them.

They're also important in the fact that they're not kids. Granted, sometimes they act like they still are, but being older than the others gives way to different kinds of plots that wouldn't necessarily work with the others.

Err... yeah, last time I checked, Brock wasn't a kid, either.

I think they are very important. The are a huge part of the show obviously, creative both a villain and comic relief to the show.

Sometimes I wish they weren't featured in EVERY SINGLE episode, but of course they are important.

I don't think it would be as easy to replace them in the anime as some people say. Meowth being able to talk and understand what Pokemon are saying also is a hugely important part of the show over the years.

Of course Musashi, Kojirou, and Nyasu are important. And I strongly suspect that the people who say otherwise just want the anime to be more like the video games.

Of course they're important. :]

I have to say that I liked them a lot better in the older seasons than I do now, because they tend to bore me in the newer episodes.

But they'll always be important to the show. They've been there since the beginning and getting rid of them would be a huge mistake, in my opinion.

...

Ya mean people actually think this show could do without them?

They're the antagonists! Half of the filler plots are based on the troubles they cause Satoshi. And plus, they do sometimes make crappy eps a bit funnier, and episodes that focus on them tend to be, as has already been said, the funniest/saddest/dramatic-est.

I know they themselves could be feasibly replaced, but I don't see any point in bringing in characters who will do virtually the same thing. At least TR make up for it with the fact that they've already been doing it for 12 years and therefore have a backstory.

Let's think of it this way. Try to imagine the Roadrunner without Wylie E. Coyote. Sure they could bring in something else, say, a hungry armadillo, but it would be a cheap imitation.
