Is the Pokemon anime fandom cynical about the show, and if so, when did this start?

Since 2010 (which isn't such a long time..) at BMGF I've observed (and admittedly perpetuated!) this.. wash of pessimism inside the anime forum which seems to colour discussions about the show.

I notice it most whenever a new movie comes out, whenever 'the writers' are mentioned (lol), whenever anybody begins talking about Ash's age, whenever people begin making predictions about the future of the series, and whenever Best Wishes is compared to other seasons..

Admittedly, I wasn't active on Bulbagarden when Team Plasma and N began appearing in the anime, so maybe the forum has been more hopeful since then. But I do remember that before N appeared in the anime (during the stretch after the unaired TR vs TP episodes) the whole subject of whether TP would ever appear in the anime smelt of bile. I remember that there was a lot of sentiment that TP would become the new Porygon.

So, if I'm right and the anime fandom has become particularly cynical, when did this start happening, and why, do you think?
