Is the server *that* slow?

This is perplexing. Some users say that Bulbapedia loads fine. Others say no. I know that sometimes the server is actually bogged down, but that would not explain it. To a certain degree I think it depends on where you are and what ISP you are using.

I can't comment on how fast or slow anything is, since my connection has terrible packet loss and lag. It usually takes anywhere upwards of 10 seconds to load a single page.

Slowness of the site

Since I found out about Bulbawiki a few days ago, it has been very frustrating to navigate due to the incredible slowness of loading pages, and about 25% of the time, the connection times out and I need to refresh the page. Is it just me, or has the server been having problems lately, or is it always just like this?

Yeah, Bulbawiki is slow and the forums are also slow, but I just find other things to do while I wait for a page to load, so I'm fine.

Sometimes this place is just as slow as Serebii.net, and that's saying something.

There are quite a few times when I am unable to update Bulbanews OR Bulbapedia because when I try to access the site, it doesn't even load. I wait at least a minute on some occasions and still see a blank screen.

I can't forget something Pie said in [HASHTAG]#bulbagarden[/HASHTAG] recently... That she tries to recommend Bulbapedia to her friends, but whenever they try to access it, it's unbearably slow. I hardly use it anymore myself simply because it's a lot faster for me to get to GameFAQs or another site. It's the main reason why I don't contribute to the site anymore.

Yes, that is indeed another factor - time - when is it slowest? It's hard to interpret from the traffic graphs, since the traffic doesn't peak significantly at any particular time.

The CPU load graph is also difficult to interpret. There's a clear bottom, but no clear peak - just a prolonged period of high activity from around 2PM UTC (11AM EDT, 8AM PDT) to 3AM UTC (10PM EDT, 7PM PDT).

It loads fine for me most often, though maybe it's because I'm part of the late crew. Though I do agree, sometimes it's the user's browser or internet connection.

I just keep refreshing until it comes up, and if it never does, I reset my internet connection. That especially seems to happen at home with my cheap router as opposed to here at school.

Since the English Diamond and Pearl release, Bulbagarden has slowed down significantly. As I was trying to reply to this thread, I received the vBulletin message saying the server was busy.

Outside of the period between about early morning to early afternoon (GMT), this place takes forever to load for me. Normally talking up to a minute at least per page, if not longer or simply not at all.

Been like that for months now. Not quite as bad as Serebii, mind, but it's almost as unbearable.

A minute to load? Hmm. It's rarely that bad when I try to use it, but then again, that's when most of America is asleep.

It usually sucks. There are times when its great, but mostly im just twiddling my thumbs, waiting for it to load...

Yeah, last night I had to wait forever for pages to load, and ofton it says the server is to busy or the broken link page comes up, so I backspace and try it again. Last night was the worst I have ever seen the forums.

Bulbapedia is slow, but not as slow as the forums, or maybe I just don't mind the slowness of Bulbapedia as much as the forums.

The speed for the forums is fine this morning, however Bulbapedia is a bit slow.

I think you should not trying looking for clear peaks, but a plateau or a series of peaks instead.

For time, I suspect that, because we have a number of people from the Asia-Pacific, European, and American regions, there will be multiple peak seasons throughout the day, as the internet peak period comes and goes for the different regions due to time-zone dfferences.

Well, actually, the graph for last Sunday has a remarkable shape with four distinct peaks over an 18-hour period.

This morning I couldn't even access the forums at all save for the main index. Nothing would even begin to load. It's still crawling.

It's gone far beyond just being slow. I actually got a "server temporarily unavailable, notify the administrator"-type message. Not just a "page not found" or a slow load.

Same here. I haven't had as much trouble as some people on page 1 of this thread but I was getting "server is too busy" messages far too often to be able to actually browse the forums earlier today.

Oddly, Bulbapedia was acting normal in the same period.
