I'm just wondering because we've been told in the anime that he cares for the pokemon in the first half of the day and does his research in the second half of the day. But he also has his radio show, gives guest lectures, and has video conference lessons for kids. Even if we haven't seen any other assistants he should have them .. Otherwise I don't understand how he and Tracey manages.
So, does he have more assistants or is Tracey the only one? I guess the same question could be asked about Professor Elm and Professor Birch.

Yeah, the more tame Pokemon he knows well help around a lot I think. Also, like fawfulmark2 said, I think Ash's mom helps too. She used to be one of his assistants or something when she was younger, right?

To my knowledge yes, remember way back in "Showdown at the Poke-Coral" Oak explained how busy his day was from sunup to sundown;
Release the Pokemon from their Pokeballs for some fresh air and exercise
Feed them breakfast and by the time he finishes it time to feed them lunch
His research begins in the afternoon
Time to feed them dinner
Finally, back inside the Pokeballs they go

He was shown in the flashback to be doing it all by himself. I suppose when Tracey became his assistant he helped take off some of the workload. Not only that, I'd say Ash's mom and Mimey help out from time to time or bring them lunch to eat or something.

Working for free does help. After all I doubt the boonies is swimming in money. XD

I always kind of thought that all of the professors had multiple assistants and interns and stuff that help them out, and one or two "main" assistants, so maybe that's what Tracy is to Oak. And they all probably help each other out and stuff when needed.

I guess some of the tame pokemon (like Ash's bulbasaur) helps Professor Oak, and Delia might help from time to time, but the other professors should all be in the same spot as Oak. They all have pokemon and their own research to take care of..
If I remember correctly Professor Ivy lived in the Orange Islands and she (and her three assistants) was so busy she didn't have time to clean, do the dishes or any other household chores. Which was the reason Brock decided to stay with her, well that and he was heads of heels for her. :)
I remember "Showdown at the Poke-Coral", but I also remember other episodes were Oak's been on the radio, held classes via videophone, and been a guest-lecturer at different events. Now that I think about it Elm and Birch traveled around a lot as well... hm..

Guess I'm gonna add assistants, whether they have them or not, for my own peace of mind. :)

Professor Oak does not seem to have any other assistants in his laboratory, so we can assume that Tracey is the only one. Delia and the pokemon living in Oak's ranch also help him maintain his property, but they aren't really assisting him with the research. It's quite ironic that Professor Oak's staff is very limited, considering how famous the professor is throughout most of the regions and the size of the laboratory itself. You would think that Professor Oak's property will be crowded regularly with visitors, fans, and researchers.
