So I was enjoying the series then in the Diamond and Pearl seasons I started to lose interest because I found myself thinking of Ash like a loser not being able to remember his basic battling and type match ups or who pokemon he has seen for a long time. Black and White infuriated me because they ruined Iris and made her very rude and nothing like her game counter part, and Cilan really over played his "I'm a chef" role with every time he talked he made a cooking reference. I also saw a screen shot of Ash using his pokedex on a Koffing. Now I hear that XY is actually good and they make up for his stupidity in the last two generations of the show. Can anyone please confirm or deny that XY is worth watching.

XY is worth the time. Ash is back to a more competent level, almost badass now. In fact, he's pretty much the leader of the group now. Plus the gang (Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie) all have great chemistry with each other. They're also taking Ash's team more seriously, like back in DP, giving him some good Pokemon, including his first pseudo-legendary (though, sadly, it's not around for too long). But XY is a definite improvement compared to the horrors of BW. The battles are better, the lack of overused stock footage is a blessing (outside of things like TRio's motto), the graphics, music, and designs are more appealing, the character interactions are smoother and better done, and the humor is improved. XY is a major change compared to BW, so it's definitely worth looking into. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply I will for sure look into it at some point

Oh, you're gonna love XY as 90% of it consists of Ash being a reckless hero and saving someone.

And at what point do people learn that Ash dexes Pokemon even if he does recognize them? He literally says the Pokemon's name before using his Pokedex.

Anyway, if you hated BW, you're gonna love XY. It's a decent series, though it could be so much better if it had actual villains and conflict or good rivals.

Such kind of answer is not really possible to accurately give. Given how people taste and what in their book constitutes as charming, enjoyable, humorous or well written largery differ from person to person.

My recommendation is to give it try yourself and see whether it appeals to your taste or not. Deciding where you stand with it and if its worth your time to continue or not.;-)

For me XY is mediocre series, Better than BW but definitely not in terms of excitement and depth on AG or OS level for example.

Its highlights for me are Ash competence and maturity being restored back for most part consistently training, forming amzing team of pokemon and taking older brother, protective kind of role to his traveling friends. Feeling like his story is moving somewhere and that huge determination of winning league and making first meaningful step toward title of becoming pokemon master gives glimpse of hope. Toward writers finally doing more substantial character development with him.

Clemont is great character in itself with his genius mind, all kind of wacky inventions which dont always stay on comic relief gag helping to resolve danger and influence plot actually. Representing indoor type of guy physically ill prepared, trying to improve himself and gain bigger faith in his own expertize and trainer abilities.

Battles are looking fantastic as well with animaton, moving scenes and variety of moves put in majority of matches revealing effort and dedication from writers side in delivering satisfying action on screen.

TR itself feels like actual persons again retrieving their quirks, flaws and personality taits. Being emotional, comic, angry or ambitious in trying out different competitions. Unlike it was case in BW wehere their only fixation was in fulfilling missions for Giovanni barely showing much of their typical personality traits , silly pranks or insights in their daily routine when not chasing after Pikachu,.

Now about bad parts:

- i don't think Kalos cast dynamic is all that great. Chemistry between Ash,Clemont, Bonnie or Serena is fairly underwhelming and unrealistic. Never getting in disagreements, misunderstandings, no sarcasm, almost never teasing and feeling like friendship never really grew. With cast being super supportive, friendfly and cheerful since day one.

Tone of series is also too sweet and postive for my taste lacking conflict, tension or sense of danger going around. Like some legitimate villains appearing posing calamity upon Kalos saga, rivals representing actual threat putting in question Ash and other skills regarding their professions and pokemon being more of challenge(so far Tierno, Scottie oir Shauna don't really give vibes of formidable opponents).Etc.

Lastly i feel whole pokemon performance career reserved for Serena feel like step back in how girls are handled. Being focused on glamour, cooking, baking, wearing pretty dresses on stage delivering pokemon equivalent or super idol in real life. Which is in some ways stereotypical and just not much fun for me(that might change, but currently i feel this way about it). Missing days when girls were competent, oriented toward pokemon battling and more selfreliant.

But thats just my personal preference.

All in all XY(Kalos saga)f rom me receives passable and solid C grade.

Its somewhere in middle not being best, but also not really been the worst series this show has offered to us so far.

Of course those are just my 2 cents on this and you may like it more, or enjoy less in it than i do. Or others who gave their input about it.

I know the dexing is from the younger kid, but I feel they did it better when he was traveling with May where she would get the older gen pokemon and Ash would usually only Dex Hoenn.
I just find the fact that he needed to dex a Koffing a little bit of a middle finger to the older fans of the series who remember that Ash used to see that pokemon everyday of his life and even technically used one in an episode

I know that it's frustrating, but do realize that in this case only Ash had the Pokedex.

And things don't get better in XY either. Ash recognizes old Pokemon, but still uses his Pokedex.

Honestly, Ash using the Pokedex on Pokemon he had seen before never bothered me that much. In some cases, like the Koffing back in BW, he hadn't seen the Pokemon in years, so it would make sense for him to get more information on them, especially when the Pokedex gets new information for older Pokemon too. Having May, Dawn and now Serena use their Pokedex for older Pokemon more often works out fine, but Ash using his Pokedex on Pokemon he already knows didn't bother me that much.

As for the topic at hand, I think that XY is worth watching. It's a much needed improvement from BW. Ash is more competent, the group chemistry is really good as they all come off as good friends, Serena has some really good focused episodes and moments after she finds her goal, Clemont has some nice development, the battles are generally good, there are some funny moments and the pacing is generally fine. It does have its issues. Some of the running gags bother me, especially Bonnie's, and there aren't really any engaging rivalries. It isn't nearly as good as DP, but it has been pretty enjoyable thus far, so I think it's worth watching to see if you'd like it.

The hell isn't Serena on her journey too or did she just find a damn Fennenkin?

Serena is the one who scans the old Pokémon now. Ash has done that too, but only two or three times, and unlike the Koffing one, he doesn't look surprised when doing it, he actually recognizes the Pokémon before scanning them.

I was refering to Iris and Cilan not having a Pokedex so no one else could dex Koffing or any other old Pokemon.

For myself, I figure there are better ways to spend my time, but that's just personal preference. Take these other guys' advice. It's not that great, but it's not horrible either. I'll also give Ash and his friends some major cred for actually evolving most of their Pokemon rather than limiting them to their cutesy mascot forms.

Yeah I've been catching up on it. It's a pretty average series, it just needs more conflict. The hint that they might merge Alan and Satoshi's stories together might make it more interesting.

To be honest, this series feels like it's just going through the motions. When we do get good episodes (Noibat and Hawlucha's introductory episodes, anything with Bonnie. That weird-looking ninja kid was somewhat cool) they're really stellar. But for the most part, I feel that the episodes are bland and uninspiring. Neither memorable, nor particularly bad. This series as a whole just sort of...exists.

I much prefer BW, but XY does fix some of BW's problems. So you might really like it if you didn't like BW. Though I really suggest watching it for Bonnie, because she is wonderful.

Your forgetting the Espurr episode where the old lady dies. I cried.

XY is really worthy watching. I am thinking whether Ash's Charizard will return in this series & evolve into its mega form or not.

Okay, I will say this,if you like Ash and want him to be a competant trainer who is glorified as hell(unlike BW) then I think that you will enjoy XY since that's how he is portrayed most of the time in this series anyway. The thing is though there's far too many fillers in XY so far most which are pretty boring, so yeah I guess I will say that it is a mixed saga, its good in some areas but bad in other areas like some other users haves stated already.

The battles though are pretty good and definitely a step up from BW for sure.

The Mega Evolution (episodes) involving Alain, Manon and Lysandre are really good if you haven't watched those yet as they have a interesting plot and set of charcters which might also link up the story with the regular episodes which might make XY a little more interesting down the track thanks to Ash and Alain meeting soon plus it also makes it unique in this regard also.

So basically if XY cuts down the filler and adds some conflict it definitely could be the most interesting and most worth watching series yet imo.

It's a hell of a lot better now than it was in generation 5 and some of the early XY was some of the best story telling in the series. It's died down a little and is a little bland at the moment, though.

Imo, no. It's better than BW at times, but the cast is boring and everything feels so passive. There's just so little excitement and few genuine threats in my opinion.

I'd say yes.

Had a really slow start, but I think they just didn't want to rush things like they did with BW and wanted to take their time before committing to anything.

It has a lot going for it, but it's not perfect. Though really, what Saga is

Let's see...

THE GOOD (so far):

- Beautiful animation
- Cool battles
- Ash back to his old self
- The TRio FINALLY getting their OS groove back (thank Arceus in his dimension!)
- Bonnie
- Pokémon with a good bit of depth and personality
- Well used Gym Leaders
- Serena's crush on Ash (poor fool, she makes me laugh)
- The Strongest Mega-Evolution mini-series
- Some dramatic and dire moments (they've even referenced death a few times)

THE BAD (so far):

- Clement and Bonnie's running gags
- Serena doing next to nothing for 40 episodes
- The COTD population the highest it's been since the OS (thankfully the cast has grown now)
- Team Flare being shafted like Plasma was, at least thus far (Lysandre is clearly up to something , but it's not enough)
- A little too much Pikachu love

Hope that helps some :)
