Out in the middle of the ocean somewhere lies a nameless island, though its inhabitants affectionately refer to it as the 'Pokémon Isle', as its varied climates- from the cold mountain that rises in the north to the swamps and wetlands of the west and the deserted east, as well as the more verdant south- can sufficiently house many, many types of Pokémon, and very few humans have ever set foot on its soil.

One of the island's great but sparsely-spread population- an Oshawott by the name of Jacob- was sitting on the island's southernmost beach, which lay on the outskirts of a forest, and he appeared to be waiting for something or someone as he idly toyed with his shell.

A Shiny Larvitar―who went by the name of Roy―walked up to Jacob; he apparently had been a bit late in his arrival.

Jenny, a Phanpy, also walked toward Jacob along the shoreline.

Jacob stood as he noticed them approach, giving both a smile and a nod, leaving his shell on his chest as it was.

"Oh, nothing," Jacob said. "I was just thinking about...things. Life in general."

"Nothing too deep," he said, shaking his head. "What else do you do when you've got nothing going on and you're staring at the sea? ...But if you must know, I was wondering if there's anything out there, in the sea, apart from this island."

"Huh... So far out we can't see it?" Jenny said wonderingly. "Like other islands? Or pokemon that live really deep in the sea?"

"...I think it's safe to say that there probably is more out there," Jacob concluded. "But I'd feel kinda selfish for wanting to see what's out there when I've never really seen all of this island."

"Well, where haven't you been? ...I don't think anyone's been very deep into that forest, but I might be wrong..." Jenny said questioningly.

"I don't doubt that some Pokémon live in there somewhere, but I've never been. To be honest, I've never really left the coast. I mean, it's more or less Sapphire Village's backyard, and it's nice and pleasant, so I've never really had need to go. But now I'm curious. Maybe there could even be another village in the forest somewhere, or something else cool like that!"
