Isn't it about time they air the banned Dratini episode in America?

This might sound crazy, but it could work. All they would have to do is dub it and then show it late at night with a content disclaimer. They could show it on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

Not after recent gun violence tragedies like Sandy Hook they won't. The increase in coverage of gun related controversies will definitely keep this episode off the airwaves. Plus, after such a long time, I doubt it'd even be remembered or even be relevant.

ARE YOU MAD?!?

If anything, the issue of guns in daytime anime might be an even BIGGER problem now than it was then!

And as Kyron said, that episode is so damn old almost no one cares :-|

*HMPH!* The very idea! Pokémon on Adult Swim!

I literally tuned in on Boomerang today and saw one of the episodes with a gun.

It was season 1 episode 54: The case of the K-9 caper

Lol it was on Boomerang one of the channels Cartoon Network owns. So I think they could care less now.

It wouldn't be worth the money. For various reasons, I doubt many kids would watch it, and I can't imagine there would be a lot of adults tuning in to watch the episode either. Besides, most people who know about the episode have already dug it up online and watched it.

Multiple things could go wrong with only one thing going right, that being the appeasement of the fans.

Thing about that is that gun was a fake, wasn't used and was only shown for a few seconds while the guns in the episode had a good bit of screen time and were literally in peoples' faces.

Ehhh probably not fake. Maybe it wasn't loaded but not fake.

Scratch that it wasn't loaded since it was a training exercise. Still a real gun with no ammunition.

Hah... attempting to release something with a firearm in it would probably instigate so many riots from overprotective parents, it would be hilarious. People already have flipped out about the possibility that Pokemon is satanic, promotes dogfighting, promotes racism... last thing we need is a GUN waving around in front of Ash's face. Doesn't matter if it was fake or unloaded; the effect is still the same. It's not a... popular one.

Ah. Couldn't quite remember the details, but still remembered it being completely harmless.

I edited the title to make it clearer as to what episode you're referring to.

There's really no good reason for TPCI to dub a really old episode like that one. It certainly wouldn't be worth the money and after recent school shootings, I doubt that there are a lot of people who would want to see guns in a kid show like Pokemon. Kids wouldn't be interested in it most likely and I doubt that there are that many older fans who would really want to see this episode dubbed that badly.

There's also no chance that Adult Swim would ever air any Pokemon episodes. Even uncut, Pokemon would stand out like a sore thumb and TPCI wouldn't want their show airing on a block that's primarily aimed at teenagers/young adults anyway. There were other episodes in the Kanto saga that showed guns, like in the Squirtle Squad episode and the already mentioned K-9 Caper, but there's a pretty big difference between those episodes and this Dratini episodes. Guns were shown in those other episodes, but only for one scene and weren't used. I don't think that the same can be said for the Dratini episode since guns are shown and used throughout the episode. If it was just a matter of one scene where a character had a gun, 4Kids might have been able to dub it back then, but now, there's just nothing worthwhile for TPCI to go through the time, energy and money to dub it, especially when they have an on-going series to work on that actually promotes the newest games.

Despite being dubbed and having scenes edited out, they still don't show Beauty and the Beast. If they were willing to just air things with a disclaimer, that would be the episode.

Yep Beauty and The Beach has'nt aired on tv since 2000 (almost 15 years ago) and has never seen a VHS or a DVD release.

We are'nt seeing Legend of Dratini anytime soon.

Seems like the perfect time to air a cartoon featuring a gun aimed at a ten-year old's head.

Also I doubt the average viewer of Adult Swim would care about a regular Pokemon episode. It doesn't mesh with Adult Swim's style whatsoever.

I don't think Pokemon would be that out of place on Adult Swim. It would be a little weird, but they aired Popeye on Adult Swim for a while too.

The day they do this is the day that they decide to air the infamous porygon episode.

At most they could ninja it into a boxset with the other season 1 episodes but I don't think they have the rights for that.

I'm pretty sure that Adult Swim hasn't aired Popeye in years. That was back when the block first started if I recall correctly. Most people associate Adult Swim with FOX animated comedy reruns and maybe Toonami 2.0 as well nowadays. Airing something like Pokemon on Adult Swim now would be seriously out of place.

I don't think that they would be allowed to do that. This is a banned episode, so I don't think that they could just toss in into a boxset as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Not to mention that would still require them to dub and edit it, which wouldn't be worthwhile to do in the first place.
