I don;t know about you, but this running gag of everyone getting Stephan's name wrong has gotten beyond annoying.

It's reached the point where I think ethey're all doing it on purpose to tease Stephan, because how hard is it to remember his name?

Discuss!

The Don Battle tournament ran alot of gags into the ground, that's partly why it was a chore to sit through, and was fairly terrible overall.

Despite the shortness of all of them I did enjoy the pokemon battles during the arc. But the jokes got annoying. I got turned off from Bianca completely during the arc but found her interesting again with the 4th gym.

>Implying name gags were humorous to begin with.

I'm not sure why the writers seem to think getting someone's name wrong is the most hilarious thing ever. Because it isn't.

The sad thing is, Stephan isn't even the most recent example of a character running this joke into the ground.

It was only ever funny with Butch, and that's mostly due to how over-the-top his reactions would be. But even then, it started to wear out it's welcome. I do agree that the whole 'Kenyan' thing is about 10 years out of date at this point, and am a little saddened that they saw fit to revive the name gag, but at least it's never going to get as bad as the DP hippo ep. Can't rag on that one enough.

Though on the topic of Don Battle running gags; Am I the only one who didn't get completely bored of Bel's 'thing' with Zoroa? Hell, they did a great job with it in the final ep of the arc, I thought.

Whatever. I like it, sure it was used about 7 times or more during the Club Battle and I especially liked this one. So to me, it never got annoying, it would've if he kept using the same reaction, but he didn't.

The topic title is the same thing I say to mom when she gets Stephan's name wrong to something like Stefan.

I was okay when it was only Ash. But if I was him I'd be gettin' a name change.

Who cares. Just use the japanese name. Then everyone should be happy.

But doesn't it have the exact same gag in the original? So what's the difference? Besides, I honestly couldn't make out any difference between "Kenyan"'s actual pronunciation and how everyone else said it. ^^

It is pronounce Stefan sort of it, if you pronounce the a as "Are", they pronounce it as Ste-fern.

They pronounce it as Keniiyan. Too much pronunciation on the "Y". It's just Ken-yan.

Like I'v said. I don't mind it, but I wish he had an angry reaction like Butch and unlike Biff, they pronounce the name wrong, instead of saying a different name. So to me, joke has its positives and negatives.

Well, you're all saying about pronounciations and stuff - how it's similar to Kenyan and all, but then that would mean Proton and Lance should've caused chaos with their names when HGSS came out.

Lol I didn't mind it. In JP I think it was more on how they said it (I assume it's the same in English too, so it's not like the Botch it up that much :p) Most people said "Keniyan" but I remember Dento said something amazing like "Kenyanuuu~" xD Also with Bianca asking him if it was "Kenyan" or "Keniyan" if I remember correctly.

It was only funny when Satoshi got it wrong...
THEN EVERYONE STARTED GETTING IT WRONG, even people who got it right in the first place :/

The thing is, I start to forget how to pronounce his name after hearing everyone else botch it every two seconds.

And the joke has gotten old. It wasn't even that funny to begin with, but now that it's been pounded into the ground with overuse... And so much overuse all at once...

But if I was him I'd be gettin' a name change.

Even if that would happen, they would still get it wrong... :p

It's not like I would mind it anyway. The thing is his name is ケニヤン Keniyan, but is pronounced as Kenyan. I'm assuming everyone just went with the standard pronounciation. The jury's out on Kaniyan... On the other hand, Bel may have just misheard his name (or just plain ditzy). I can't comment on the English dub as I haven't seen much of it. All I heard was a wrong accent. Anyway, it makes me wonder how they do this to the other languages

(If anyone else cares)
In Chinese, it's 甘尼洋 (Gānníyáng - no reference to Kenya though). Can't believe they're getting away with this, since his name sounds really similar to a profane Chinese phrase. His name comes with variations such as 甘尼亞 (Gānníyǎ - still sounds profane), 卡尼洋 (Kǎníyáng) and 甘尼樣 (Gānníyàng). Even his Chinese VA got his name wrong once...
