"It's ultra effective!" (or something)

In the 5th gen, do you think there should be a special message when a move is 4x effective? For example, when a Wingull gets hit by a thunderbolt, should there be a special message different than the usual "It's super effective!"? I think "ultra" would be a nice, corny, cheesy substitute, and it does convey more intensity than "super". Also, what about a new message for when something is only 1/4x effective? Instead of "It's not very effective..." we could get "It's barely effective at all..."

Anyway, what are your thoughts? I think it would be pretty informative and intuitive, rather than having 2x and 4x sharing the same message (and 1/2x and 1/4x). However, I guess for nostalgia's sake the current messages should stay and have no additions, but then again how often are 4x, let alone 1/4x attacks?

So anyway, share your thoughts.

What significance would this have? I'm not seeing any.

What if doing two super effective attacks in a row got you a "combo" (like "combos" from DDR and Killer Instinct), and the Pokémon earned more experience the higher the combo got!

No there is nothing wrong with Super Effective and no reason to add "Ultra Effective." Also the combo thing already exists but you don't gain more exp. Moves like Double Hit, Comet Punch, Furry Swipes etc.

Well I get what you're trying to say....... but I don't really get why this should happen.

Although I kinda like the combo thing, except for the rise in EXP gain.... maybe a rise in damage inflicted per successive turn?

ELECTRIKE used Thunder!
It dealt MASSIVE DAMAGE!
Wild WINGULL fainted!

...don't know. I don't mind x2 and x4 (and x.25 and x.5) sharing their texts, though it would be cool if there was a separate string for that.

It's not really necessary.

But if they did, "ultra effective" sounds horrible. I'd prefer it to be something like "It was incredibly effective!".

could be usefull for the younger/newer players. But then they would need to get a teachy tv of some sort to explain the difference.

...Isn't this just pretty much just a Super Effective + Critical Hit mix <.<
Well... no purpose imo...

Yeah... like many others have said, it could be cute, but it's not really that useful. Plus, "super effective" has just gotten to be such an, ahem, 'catchphrase' of the series that replacing it (even partially) could cause some people to be even more uneasy about Pokémon continuing past Generation II.

@Mijzelffan: Trainer Tips?

A message other then super effective for x4 would be nice. It's not like it'd replace "Super effective!". And maybe something like "It hardly had any effect" for 1/4 or 1/8 damage.

Also, the odds of getting two criticals in a row (unless you've got a bunch of effects like focus energy and super luck in effect) are pretty slim. But there is something that increases damage when you use an attack consecutively, it's called a Metronome.

Just a moment ago, Bugsy's Metapod hit me with three critical hit Tackles in succession. You haven't clearly noticed the high crit-hax level the gym leaders usually have.

Even more reason not to have that! Then that would be even worse!
Though I am pretty sure it's just bad luck, they have the same odds of getting a crit as you do.
Enemies do seem to crit more often... but that's probably because the bad stands out more then the good.

I just love "it's incredibly effective!" Thanks to whoever said that.(I don't really know people here yet...) I really couldn't care less if they changed it. If it was incredibly, I would die. :)

I do, personally I didn't knew that Golem are weaker than Sudowoodo against grass- and water type moves before last year when I found Bulbapeida. The game just told me "It's super effective!" so I guessed they where just as weak. This is mainly the reason I never used Sudowoodo, all I saw was a loss of a immunity.

Of course now I don't care, but for the younger audience it would be good.

Don't forget that Spheal's and Seel's lines have triple resistance (⅛ damage), what kind of message should that get?
