I've gotten Pokérus, how to spread?

While training for E4, my six Pokémon (five battlers and HM slave) got Pokérus. My team at the time is as follows:

Hariyama (leadoff, as she has the least EXP)
Swellow
Sceptile
Gyarados (this is where being Jolly really sucks, methinks)
Flygon (let me double check, because I think it has crap attack IVs or an attack-hindering nature of the wrong kind)
Wailmer (the HM slave)

(Yes, Flying types will wall this team, but that's why I am training.)

I suspect either Hariyama and Swellow got Pokérus (between two hours of trying to find Plusle, Volbeat, and Grimer to catch and four trainer rematches in which only those two were involved), but now all six have Pokérus.

Since none of my other Pokémon games has Pokérus (and I certainly didn't have it three hours ago), I need to bench someone so that I can transfer and spread. (I've beaten E4 in virtually every other Pokémon game, but none have Pokérus).

Now, this is probably a combined question: what's the best way to train for E4 and spread Pokérus? All the other games are in "breed and train" mode (I use XD for my item store, Emerald for breeding, FireRed to fill the dex, Sapphire is locked in Southern Island marathon catching battle, LeafGreen for Slowpoke, and Box to store my competitive battlers). Who should I bench to preserve the Pokérus? And who should my sixth battler for E4 be?

The clock is ticking now...

Pokérus. Highly sought after by elite trainers everywhere, the Pokérus is a symbiotic lifeform that attaches itself to Pokémon. Pokémon infected with the Pokérus are known to train twice as hard as those without. It is estimated that a significant percentage of elite Pokémon in competition have the Pokérus.

well how can i get a pokemon that has pokerus in my FR and Pearl game(with out beggin any one to give mi a pokemon with it)

I believe that in any wild battle (in Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh only), there is a slim chance of encountering a wild Pokémon with the Pokérus, and any Pokémon who engages that Pokémon will contract it (in G3 and later, you will need to hit the Pokémon with a contact attack, while any damaging attack will do in G2). The Pokémon Center will notify you if any team member has the Pokérus has contracted it for the first time (in G2, Elm will also call you the first time).

If a Pokémon has the Pokérus, there is a one-in-three chance that it spreads to the rest of your team via adjacency each turn in battle, provided it's a Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh team.

Your odds are, according to Bulbapedia, 1/21845 that this will happen.

The Pokérus will "die out" after 2-4 days (randomly determined based on the individual Pokémon, IIRC) of active duty on a Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh team (a day is defined to end at midnight), meaning that keeping it in a box or transferring into a non-live area (G2 - Stadium 2 and G1 carts, G3 - Kanto, Orre, or Box, no places for G4 yet) will prolong the liveness. In G2 (possibly later, haven't checked), there is a one-in-three chance that putting it in a box infects everyone else in it.

The Pokérus, live or dead, double EV gain. This is on top of Macho Brace or (in G4) the Power Items. (I believe the doubling occurs last). This is why that six-karp team in G4 is a dead easy training ground (combined with a good Tamato investment if it's not in speed). An infected G2 Pokémon transferred to G1 will continue gaining the benefit (and will also spread it if the Pokérus is live and it is transferred back to G2).

So the only difference between live and dead is whether it can spread or not. Also, because of the berry glitch, unpatched copies of Ruby and Sapphire will spread but not kill Pokérus.

In conclusion, you'd have to acquire the Pokérus elsewhere. It can't spread in FireRed (since it cannot grow and die out), but it can in Pearl. So always have a designated live Pokérus "infector".

KelvSYC: Thank for the info, i'm gonna regret saying this soon but i hate the Kanto and Hoenn versions there getting boring to play. As for the Sinnoh version i don't mind playing the game for 58 hours straight until i get my hands on my own Pokemon with that has PKRS.

PorygonZ: i have like 3-6 pokemon with PKRS(i placed the pokemons with it in the PC and there is like 150 Pokemons that had PKRS and in 1-2 days it died out)

So does pokerus not go away if the pokemon is in the pc? i.e. Can I put my charizard(who just caught pokerus, the day after I decide to ev train a team for online battles! lol) in the pc and take him out 2 weeks later and he still have pokerus? The reason is I was thinking once a week I might train to give 7 easy to catch pokemon pokerus and then trade them online to anyone who wants pokerus. Try to help spread it around the community.

That wold be cool, and I could help, because I got an Aero with Pokerus off of the GTS, and I have a few infectors in my PC. Yes, the Pokerus does stay if you put your pokemon in the PC.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm gonna try to get some easy to catch pokemon ready tonight.

I had Pokerus a while ago (almost sounds like we're talking about some weird STD or something ;) ) in Diamond, but it wouldn't spread *shrugs shoulders* I was just shocked that I got it :D

lol pokemon std's, just don't tell Jack Thompson, last thing we need is another anti-game controversy :p. My pokerus seems to be spreading pretty fast, I'm leveling up my butterfree for contests and after 5-6 battles my whole party seems to have pokerus.

hey i got Poerus from LaughingBat :p and i was just randomly riding round on my bike for no apparent reason and decided to check on Growlithe to see if he still had it, and it turns out all my pokemon onmy team had it...i guess it depends on how much your team like you or something like that? Like, if your team like you alot then they should get pokerus easy peasy :p

I got it from a Milotic and a Salamence traded on GTS, I was really surprised to get 2 in row, so I got it to all my best pokemon by walking around a battling a bit.
