I did a search for the topic, but I came up with nothing. No topic was only about j-rock and j-rock only, so I think it really does deserve one. Since it's one of the things I like about Japan, I have an urgent need to talk about it. :3 My questions are following:

Do you listen to j-rock? If you do, do you listen to it a lot? What bands do you listen to? Do you have a favorite j-rocker or someone, who you like a lot? Favorite songs? Favorite albums? Are you more of a fan for major bands? Or are you more into the small, yet lovable indies-scene?

The stage is yours. :3

I listen to J-rock, but different types. There are your groups that can fit under maybe soft rock or pop-rock, etc., maybe a mixture of things, where a group has a lot of styles or a combination of styles. The only group that fits the latter, there, imo, is the group m.o.v.e. The majority of their pure rock stuff is during the singles (starting at Painless Pain) that were put out in about 2003 up to maybe the How to see you again single (2005) and for albums, for rock, I'd go with the group's Deep Calm album (about 2004). The group isn't really classified as rock, as, like I said, they have a multitude of styles.

My favorite J-rock artists/bands (past and/or present) are...

Do As Infinity
THYME
GOING UNDER GROUND
Monoral
MAXIMUM THE HORMONE
Moi x Mois
Gackt
SCREW
Versailles
RIZE

I'll mention favorite songs or albums later. Oh, and another group I was introduced to is Auncia. Haven't heard anything by 'em yet.

I like a lot of VK and pop-rock basically.

Nana Kitade
L'arc en Ciel
Moi dix Mois
Malice Mizer
Ali Project
Anna Tsuchiya (though she's more pop really..)
Psycho le Cemu
Versailles (AWESOME symphonic metal)
Phantasmagoria
Orange Range

I'm not really that big on it, but I am a fan of Gackt, Miyavi and An Cafe. :)

Nice to see someone else liking and listening to the band also! 8D Do you have favorite songs from Phantasmagoria? What about favorite member? :3

I like all of them in general- they have a unique sound- but it seems like they've gone through so many name changes it's hard to track their stuff down.

They're really good as female fronted VK groups go, but I think Ali Project (as awesome as they are) pushes them from the spotlight a lot.

No. 305 and Nakadashi Daihyakka are personal favorites, (probably not saying much)I hear the former has played live with Mazeru na Kiken and worked in bands with Akuma Daikon(Ninja Hattori-kun being one of them).

my favorites are An Cafe, alice nine., and Ayabie. LM.C is another good one, and so is Janne da Arc, but they aren't visual-kei (iirc? maybe they used to be? idk lol) and I love me my pretty asian boys.

as for my favorites? Kanon, Hiroto, and Intetsu respectively of those first 3 bands. notice what 2/3 of them play and you can probably tell what I play too.

I really love to listen to Aqua Timez, Back-On, AKFG(Asian Kung-Fu Generation), UBERworld, and Hyde lol...
My fav. J-Rock song would be........ "Chain" - Back-On
hehe, I have a Playlist on playlist.com dedicated to such :3

As for me, I like Aqua Timez, Back-On, UVERworld, Orange Range, FLOW and LM.C..

I love j-rock!
My favourite band ever is L'Arc~en~Ciel.
Also:
An Cafe [on hiatus =(]
Dir en grey
LM.C
The GazettE
VAMPS
Malice Mizer
Gackt
HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR
Angelo
D'espairsray
Miyavi
Vidoll
Sadie
hide

Fave songs right now:
My favorite beat and Nyappy in the world 4 (An cafe), BLESS (L'arc), Glass skin and Dozing Green (Dir en grey), Social Riot machines (GazettE), and Chemical king twoon (LM.C)

my favourite j-rocker is hyde (singer of L'arc & VAMPS)

I guess I like a pretty wide range...(An cafe & Dir en grey are just about opposites)

Most of the J Rock tracks I have are things that were used for anime OP or ED tracks that I really liked. Don't think I liked any of it enough to go search for more songs by a particular artist, with the exception of Asian Kung-Fu Generation and The Pillows, who I just friggin love. I also have Dir En Grey's Withering to Death album, but really, I only bothered with that because a girl I've been after loved them at the time. I also have a bunch of LM.C tracks as well, which I got for the same reason (and same girl). Difference is, I actually like LM.C, where as I'll usually hit Next on my iTouch when DEG comes on.

Forgot to add HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR to the list. I really like them more now, even though Maakii left the group after marrying Masa (of DREAMS COME TRUE). *Shakes head* Still creepy to me. She's young enough to be his daughter.

Anyway, has anyone here ever heard any music by the group S.K.I.N? It's made up of Gackt (Malice Mizer), Yoshiki (X-Japan), Miyavi, and Sugizo (Luna Sea).

Forgot Malice Mizer. I used to be a big fan...but lost interest. Sucks the grouop is on a permanent hiatus. Same with Orange Range (lost interest fast for some reason).

I really like ALI PROJECT...but I still don't hear "rock" with them, but like with Shiina Ringo, they were always considered "rock".

Oh yeah, forgot about Psycho le Cemu...haven't heard anything by that alt group in years. lol I used to have music here. Friend of mine copied her cd for me one year and sent it to me.

I've heard few of their songs' live versions. I have to admit that this band will probably never see the daylight, since all the members have their own projects (Yoshiki has X Japan and now it's revived or something, Miyavi has his solo career, so does Gackt and Sugizo has his solo career and the career as X Japan's guitarist). So yeah... Once the interviewers asked Miyavi about this band, and he replied that he'd love to play in it, but everyone is so busy that he doesn't think it'll be possible for a while. Let's see how long that while is then...

That explains a lot. I was looking forward to the group's works, especially due to all the talent it has in it from its members.

Yeah. Oh, and I forgot that Miyavi became a father during the summer, so that does take up his time as well - a man's gotta spend some time with his family as well.

And hearing the live versions wasn't giving the right picture of their music to me, since the YouTube quality is what it is. XP So I haven't had any chance to form a good opinion on them.

I really want to hear more from S.K.I.N. I love Gackt and Miyavi's work, and I liked the bit of X and Luna Sea also, but of course a group made up of 4 of the most famous jrockers will have it's problems.

yay! more VAMPS music this year!

Try listening to Moi dix Mois. They sound exactly like Malice Mizer, since that's Mana's new project.

Kanon Wakeshima is amazing, too. Mana also produces for her and her music is beautiful.
