Does anyone listen to any kind of Japanese music? J-rock, Vis Kei or J-pop in particular?
Gackt, hyde, L'Arc~en~Ciel, Dir en grey, An Cafe, Malice Mizer, The Gazette, VAMPS,..uh...ecetera?
Just wanna know or to discuss or anything. recommendations. that kind of stuff.

I personally don't like J[genre].

Then again, purely instrumental and chorus are more my taste, anyway.

hehehe, I think I'm feeling a deja vu

But I'm always open to talking about this anyways. I love Japanese music and Japanese Rock, but not so much the Visual stuff. I tend to like J-indies and J-punk type of stuff: People like Straigtener, Ellegarden, Asian Kung-Fu Generations, Pillows, Acidman, the band apart, etc.

I also like Japanese Hip Hop, and R&B, also I like Japanese Electronic music. Sometimes I'll listen to pop from some artist, but not that often, and usually it is limited to a few artist that I already like or are similar to/or do rock or R&B. (So I'm not a fan of people like Morning Musume, for example)

I looked before hand and didn't find one on this topic already so ^_^'

I tend like j-rock better but I do like Asian Kung-fu Generation, although I've only heard a few of their songs. I haven't heard of any of the other one's you like. (I have heard of Morning Musume though)

I haven't heard all too much of it yet. I only got into it from the second Fullmetal Alchemist theme song X3 (READY, STEADY, GO by L'Arc~en~Ciel) but I really like it even if I can't understand most of it (even some of the English parts are a bit iffy)

j-music and Japanese game music is just about all I listen to. ever.

I like An Cafe too, but I don't like Bou so their older stuff isn't something I have listened to, but I might in the future. I prefer Yuuki and Takuya.

but my favorite j-rock band is Ayabie. 8D also, alice nine. is pretty good, and Janne da Arc is a nice older, not-so-heavy band.

my favorite non-j-rock group is capsule, who have lovely electronic-ish music. and my favorite Japanese video game music composer is a tie between Tsuyoshi Sekito and Junya Nakano. I'd recommend them all, but I don't think you'd like shibuya-kei or video game music if you only like rock... :/

I will just very simply say that I like Yui Yoshioka.

I've only listened to three songs by An Cafe...so I'm just getting into them.

I've heard of alice nine and Janne da Arc so I'll have to try them.

I do like some video game music. it depends though. I surprise myself with what I like sometimes XD

I like Malice Mizer, Dir en Grey and Phantasmagoria, and I also like some of Gackt's solo stuff... I also like Maximum the Hormone and Orange Range are ok.

I like really enjoy the Beat Crusaders (sweet electronic pop punk) and Asian Kung-fu Generation (nice indie alt. rock feel +sweet melodies). I've even managed to collect all their studio albums respectively, over the last 4 years.

Husking Bee is another good alternative band but I don't actually own any of theirs.

I actually knew of AKG before the bleach theme thanks to last FM (or pandora?) recommendation. But, by way of anime I found BC's and HB.

I'm glad you asked. Japan is home to a thriving underground scene which has featured everyone from breakcore kings CDR and Di-Bit to Shako-pani, pioneer of a style he calls Eroge n' Bass and anime fiend Akuma Daikon. Many of them release free works to underground netlabels. I could ramble for a week, but you'd all want me dead.
Suggested musicians and choice files:
CDR (Risperidone (Maltine) and CDR on CRD (Cock Rock Disco) are good, but Red Randsel (Amenorea) is the most representative of his style as a whole.)
Di-Bit: (Try the Fuck Psycho EP for Strikes Back) The label has since shut down.
Shako-Pani: (Get Habanero Sketch and Erogenbass is Dead. They're both not on label, but he provides links to download them from his Myspace page.) He deleted them both.
Hujiko Pro: (I'd suggest Bandit EP, for Strikes Back.) The label has since shut down.

i've listened to some J-Rock and J-Pop, but i really only listen to anime-related songs on a normal basis.

Oh, out of these ones you say, I only like a few songs from The Gazette. I've tried An Cafe and L'Arc~en~Ciel, but...

Well, my favorites are Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Orange Range, Maximun the Hormone, Flow, Home Made Kazoku, Uverworld. I also like some Tommy Heavenly6 stuff.

L'Arc is okay, some of their songs I like more than others. They've been around for a long time, there is a bunch of stuff out there. You should check out fake and Oblivion Dust as well as they have a similar style (of between punk and visual), but the lead singer knows english better than Hyde (lead singer in L'arc).

I think most people know the Pillows from the old OVA "FLCL" where they used a lot of their songs in the soundtrack. I think Ellegarden had a song used a Basketball show a long time ago (I think it was "I'll", but I can't remember, I kind-of only found out later) I think all of them may have had insert songs in the show "Beck".

Either way, the good thing about getting into Japanese music now is that it is so much easier with the popularity of You-Tube. Basically all you have to do is search the name and you'll find a lot of their videos.

Heh, I basically love those as well! Husking Bee is really cool old stuff. I think I use to listen to them like crazy a long time ago. Beat Crusaders is also still pretty cool, I really liked some of their recent songs like "Have you seen her Happy", but their last album (that I know of) was a bit of a disappointment for me (Because I only really liked the single songs, "Winter long", and one other that I can't remember for some reason).

I like Orange Range and Uverworld, but I greatly prefer their older stuff. Some of their new things are too poppy for my tastes, but I really miss the old Orange Range. (The last song from them I can remember liking was Asterik, and I didn't really like it as much as their stuff when they were indy and when they were first signed. The songs were both catchy and felt more rock-rap original)

Also Tommy Heavenly6... She sounds good, I can admit that (even though she comes off as Bi-polar with the Tommy February stuff), but She was best in the Brilliant Green. That's where I want her to be, so , lol :p

Agreed. Orange Range was a lot better before, like during "Viva Rock" and "Shangai Honey". I miss that. But like, I still like their new songs.

About Tommy, the Heavenly6 and February6 does sound odd. Crazy woman XD. But I like her better as Tommy Heavenly6, not in Brilliant Green.

I like quite a few groups/artists. I tend to like a bit of everything (which includes visual-kei), I suppose, but of course, not everything ends up being favorites for me. Some I heard of through maybe an anime series or a J-drama. Others I came across on my own before knowing that the artists did anime-themes. One artist who comes to mind is Rie Fu. As some know, she did the first ending theme to the series Bleach. I heard the song way before I even knew what Bleach was and was into her prior to knowing that that song was used for it.

Favorite Artists (Solo)
Akino Arai
Sakamoto Maaya
Rie Fu

Honorable Mentions (ones that keep going back and forth on the favs list)
Namie Amuro: I tend to prefer her older works at times, but then I might get back into her again, despite the fact that she’s more R&B now…but she’s one of the few I don’t mind it with.

Gackt: I like him, but sometimes I might get a tad bit bored, but then I’ll just go right back to him, but, seems I still like his older works more. Crazy, right? Lol

Favorite Groups/Bands
Do As Infinity
move
MAXIMUM THE HORMONE
Dreams Come True
HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR
ALI PROJECT
BUMP OF CHICKEN
Going Under Ground
Monoral
RIZE
THYME
SUITE CHIC (Wish this group would come back)
SCREW
Moi dix Mois
Versaillles

Old favorite artists/groups/bands that I once liked...artists/groups/bands that I like, but aren’t “favorites”
L’Arc~en~Ciel: I know this is a good group, but I just can’t get into them fully. My favorite album by the group is their first one from 1994, Tierra. I’ll still listen to the group, though.

dream: Loved this group back in the day. Hated the changes. Lead singer left, added more girls to the group, etc. I hated all the changes. Later dream to me is too much like Morning Musume, which I don’t like.

Malice Mizer: I still like the group…even if the group’s been in a permanent hiatus for years now, but I tend to go back and forth as to which era of Malice Mizer I liked best. Gackt era…Testu era, etc.

globe: Haven't been into this group for a while. Been iffy ever since the group's light album. Might hear something every once in a while I might like.

NIGHTMARE: I’m surprised I grew bored of this group. The music is good…but I guess I have to be in a mood to listen to ‘em.

Pool Bit Boys (PB2): This is an old group (‘90s). The duo doesn’t exist anymore, but I did like some of the group’s music. More so the popish stuff.

Schwarz Stein: Still like listening every once in a while, but, never really bothered looking into them further.

Kuraki Mai (Mai-K): Used to love her music when I first got into J-pop. She was pretty much one of the first I was introduced to. Her music, for me, just grew boring, but, every once in a while she might put out something I really liked.

Utada Hikaru (Hikki): Just like Kuraki Mai, she was one of the first J-pop artists I was introduced to. About the same time, actually. I liked her at first…but, grew bored of her, but, like with Mai-K, every once in a while, she might put out something that captures my interest.

Orange Range: I liked them during their “Viva Rock” era, but grew bored after a while.

Every Little Thing: I liked this group up until their Grip! era. After that, I’ve been so-so with the group.

Hamasaki Ayumi (Ayu): Same as Mai-K and Hikki…grew bored. Last time I was fully into her, was during her Memorial Address era. She’s released some things I could get into since then, but she’s not much of a favorite for me anymore.

dream: Loved this group back in the day. Hated the changes. Lead singer left, added more girls to the group, etc. I hated all the changes. Later dream to me is too much like Morning Musume, which I don’t like.

Tell me about it..... I thought I was the only one on here who really recognized the many events that have burdened Dream's J-Pop... I also miss Matsumuro-san.....
