Currently, I'm learning the Japanese numbering system. Not formally, mind you, but over the internet. So far, I know how to count from 0-10, but I'm still confused about numbers like 23, 209, et cetera.

Now, I know that I have to put (word)-ju to write a number from 20-90. . But if I put 'ni-ju san', would that equal 23?

Adding to that, would san-hyaku ichi mean 301? I think I'm getting the hang of it, but I'm no so sure. Clarification, please?

It's pretty much the same as English, really. Ni-juu-san is twenty-three; literally it's two-ten-three, but in English we call "two-ten" "twenty".

And san-hyaku-ichi is three hundred one. Because of the way sounds work when you combine words like that, though, it's pronounced san-byaku-ichi.

Ah, I'm getting it. So then go-sen yon-hyaku ni would be 5402, I believe. Correct?

Thanks, by the way! =]

Thank you very much! =D I'll probably be back with more questions, so be on your toes.
