Looking at Bulbapedia's page for the length of time each opening was used, it seems ever since Johto there seems to be a trend where the 1st opening of a new series (or saga, to include Johto itself) is used for much longer than the other openings in that series.

Johto
OK! was used for 75 episodes
Aim to be a Pokémon Master! (Whiteberry Version) was used for 47 episodes
Ready Go! was used for 36 episodes

Advanced Generation
Advance Adventure was used for 69 episodes
Challenger!! was used for 35 episodes
Pokémon Symphonic Medley was used for 30 episodes
Battle Frontier was used for 31 episodes
Spurt! was used for 27 episodes

Diamond and Pearl
Together lasted for 75 episodes, Together2008 was used for another 17, making a total of 92, the longest so far including a remix.
High Touch! was used for 38 episodes, High Touch! 2009 for another 24, for a total of 62.
The Greatest - Everyday! was used for 25 episodes, Band Version was used for 9 episodes after that, making 34 altogether.

Best Wishes
Best Wishes! lasted 84, the current record for a song without a remix.
Be an Arrow! was used for the first 24 episodes of Season 2, Be an Arrow! 2013 was used for the 14 episode-long Episode N arc, for 38 total.
Summery Slope is currently being used for the Decolora Adventure arc and will likely last around 25 episodes.

As you can see each saga's first opening is generally used for much longer than its successors. While changing arcs and writers having to wrap up series can cause some openings to be shorter than others, the gap in the length between the 1st opening and its succesors is apparent. Do you think there are reasons for this too or it's just happenstance?
