When Jessie won a ribbon for the first time, everyone was pretty happy and some even hoped she would make it to the Grand Festival.

However since then, Jessie failed in the appeals round in the Wallace Cup, and in the just aired Celestic Contest in Japan, Jessie failed in the appeals round again.

Jessie has now lost two Contests in a row since she won her ribbon, so does anyone think she only won that ribbon to give Dustox, her original Contest Pokemon, one last hurrah before she released it?

I think part of it was for that reason and part of it was because after all this time she should really have at least one ribbon.

It's funny (in a weird way) how much things have reversed. Hikari is hitting her stride and Musashi is the one in the slump. It seems to me that now that we're in the middle of the contest season, the judges are a bit harder and wont tolerate as much as they did before. They want to see unique things instead of variations on stuff they've already seen before. It makes me think it might just be the same few people (and the local Joy) judging.

I thought Hikari's appeal was really good, but because of a slight fumble just barely squeaked by again. If Hikari is just barely going to pass Musashi has no chance unless she remembers what contest are supposed to be about.

I know everyone says this, and I know it's said so much it hardly seems true anymore, but DP has been unpredictable, and it's hard to be sure.

I'd say she has as good of a chance as winning again she did before, but it seems unlikely that she'll make it to the Grand Festival. My knowledge of the rules of anime Contests is slim, but I believe you need five ribbons? Jessie hasn't done anything off-screen since, what, her capture of Lickitung back in mid-Kanto? For her to get four more ribbons, all in contests Dawn participates in, we'd either have over ten more contests, or she'd go and not Dawn.

So I'm not betting on it. However, I'd be surprised if she didn't win one more contest. They've set Jessie up in an interesting situation--she seems to think that she's more important than her Pokemon. It's a golden "learning opportunity" to have her come to a realization, late in the series, that it's all about the Pokemon and start winning again.

But that's just my take on things.

Ugh, if she loses, let her lose with some...dignity, you know? I mean, that Melissa outfit/act was just...no. In Kanto, at least she always made it past the appeal round. NOW she decides to fumble? Do the writers hate her that much? I know they like to make fun of her all the time, but I think that's enough.

No actually, I'm glad Dawn won for a change. She has really been deserving it after losing the appeal twice (Plus, she was awesome in the battle round XD). Now I guess it's Jessie's turn; Karma perhaps?

I do agree that she could take this as a learning experience, let's hope she does better in the next contest.

You're kidding, right? Team Rocket barely has any dignity to begin with, you want her to start losing with dignity now?

I think the only way Jessie may make it to the GF is if she wins Contest off-screen.

Let's face it, in order for Jessie to get 4 more ribbons, Dawn has to lose 4 more Contests. There's no way the writers are going to give us 4 more losses for Dawn at this point.

I always said it would be great if Jessie tries to track down Contests separate from where Ash is going, so she could get ribbons off-screen. Otherwise, it really does seem like her winning a ribbon was a one-time thing, probably as a last tribute to Dustox.

*sigh* It's an odd request, I know. I love Team Rocket as a silly group of undignified losers. But, I dunno, I also really like it when they take things seriously...or win XD.

Okay, how about with more dignity than she did when she entered the Wallace cup? Is that better?

She lost three appeals in a row if you count the filler contest i n 86. Yanmega is an ugly MOFO, doesn't even seem to like contests. Though Brock did get through an appeal with a crying flower pot, so anythings possible.

Are the top 8 really based on best to worst? I thought those were just the 8 they chose in no particular order.

"Hearthome Collection" wasn't a Contest, not even an unofficial one
It did was much like Contests' performance round but still it doesn't count as a Contest

Not sure, I've always figured the faces just appear in a random order of the best 8.

In the Grand Festivals though, the faces are put in order of who had the best appeal.

It's been confirmed to be that way in normal Contests. At least once, anyway, with May being excited about being the first to appear on-screen, which annoyed Harley.

And the only reason I remembered that was because it was a part of that one "Harley wins" episode that Yamato-san(?) did a joke-sub of. :p

I love Team Rocket too, but I found that wanting them to have more dignity than they currently do is a really bad attitude if you want to not be disappointed with what happens to them all the time. I love episodes where they get to be extremely awesome, of course, and I eagerly await them when I hear they're coming up, but expecting more of that is a bit naive. They're immature losers with shit luck because they're the villains, and we just have to get used to it.

I'd hope not. I knew she wasn't going to win the Celestic Contest but losing in the appeal round again? She needs stop stop showing herself off and working on her Pokemon.

Funny, in both Wallace/Celestic Contest appeals they involved Jessie herself being launched into the air in some form.

Maybe Jessie should stop using *herself* in the appeal, and let her Pokemon shine? I think that's what's screwing her up.

The thing is that... That's an integral part of Jessie's character. She's an attention whore through and through.

It's shown repeatedly throughout the show that Team Rocket is almost completely incompetent. It's been established that they're destined to fail at almost everything they attempt to do. Even if they try to do good they end up paying in some shape or form. It's a part of their sympathetic portryal as characters.

It seems wrong to write them succeeding at anything because well... they're Team Rocket. The Pokémon anime's Chew Toy/Woobies (depending on the episode).

Seeing them succeed at anything seems... wrong. At least in the writer's eyes.

Yeah, but they do let them succeed sometimes.

Jessie won 1 ribbon, James won the orienteering competition.

There are other things they accomplished too, but for some reason they're slipping my mind at the moment.

That is one of the things I've been hammering Jessie for all of Diamond/Pearl. I mean, the first few times, using yourself in the appeal seems quite interesting, but after a while, you are really just stealing the spotlight from your Pokemon. Frankly, I think the audience doesn't give a damn about who the Coordinator is as long as the Pokemon looks good performing.

I forsaw this happening ever since the Solaceon Contest. Jessie's ego has taken over, especially when it came to the Wallace Cup, where she literally tried to "flirt" her way to victory. And everyone knows what happens when your ego takes over. It's not a pretty sight.

To be frank, we've probably seen the last win by Jessie for a long time (if ever again). If Jessie were to be truly determined to be a Coordinator, she needs to go off-screen and win some Contests. At least she should have the sense to let her Pokemon actually appeal.

Yeah, I agree. Jessie definitely let that 1 ribbon win go to her head. You always saw her gloating about it in the fillers prior to the next Contest, and how she was definitely going to "win" next time too.

Then she fails in the appeal round twice in a row, ouch. Its like role reversal with Dawn, lol.

Yeah, but they do let them succeed sometimes.

Sometimes! That's the key word here. If and when they succeed, you're left there staring at the screen gaping and going "WTF just happened here" because it RARELY happens. And when it happens, most people can't help but cheer for them because they don't succeed in ANYTHING, EVER, and it's so great that something good happened to them for a change.

The rest of the time, though, they're going to be the most ridiculously pitiful losers that you have ever seen. And that's the whole point.
