When will people learn?

AT least two people are dead and three injured in a school shooting in southern Finland, hours after a video was posted on YouTube predicting a massacre at school.

"I cannot confirm the exact number of the dead, but there are definitely more than two," the head of the medical response team said.

"One person in critical condition was brought to a hospital in Helsinki as well."

One of those shot dead was the principal of the school, said Tuula Panula, spokeswoman for the Tuusula municipality, some 60km from the Finnish capital Helsinki.

The video, set to hard-driving music, shows a still photo of a school that appears to be Jokela High School, where the shooting occurred.

The photo then fragments to reveal a red-tinted photo of a man pointing a gun at the camera.

It is entitled “Jokela High School Massacre - 11/7/2007” and was posted by a user called Sturmgeist89.

“Sturmgeist” means storm spirit in German.

A teacher at the scene told Reuters the gunman was a pupil at the school.

“It felt unreal, a pupil I have taught myself was running towards me, screaming, a pistol in his hand,” teacher Kim Kiuru, who was teaching his grade eight class when the shooting took place, told Reuters at the scene.

“He (the gunman) was moving systematically through the school hallways, knocking on the doors and shooting through the doors,” added Mr Kiuru, who said he helped his pupils escape the building through the classroom windows.

Junior Constable Olli Laine said police had surrounded the building, which houses both a middle school and high school, and were evacuating students.

Despite having the third-largest per capita ratio of handgun ownership in the world, violent incidents are rare at Finnish schools.

According to Finnish media, there have been four stabbings at schools since 1999, but none of these caused fatalities.

The last major attack in the country came in 2002, when a young man killed including himself and six others,in a bomb blast at a shopping mall in Helsinki.

This is indescribably sickening. We may never know why this person was filled with so much hatred, but I sincerely hope that this is the last such incident.
 
The Yahoo article seemed to harp on about how he set his video to KMFDM. Would the media even mention it if something like that were set to Beethoven?
 
There are now eight confirmed dead (5 boys, two girls, and the principal), nine including the gunman.
 
I read about this a few hours ago.
It is very tragic, and I'm sorry for the families that have through all of this.
I really have no comment on the shooter, this has happend before, and the outcome for the Virginia Tech was way more tragic than this.

What the fuck? They're both as tragic as each other!
 
It's all tragic, but it happens all the time. People were truly shocked the first time this ever happened, but by now everyone's just thinking "again?!"
 
Sounds like something that would happen in the U.S. Hope it wasn't an export.

I love living in Aus. We don't have to put up with this 'gun massacre' bullshit.
 
That's Australia for you. Jumping on bandwagons that roll in from real countries. The political correctness wagon must be stuck on a roundabout.

Yes, I read that a while ago and I still cannot believe how precious some people can be! Like a little child would interpret 'ho ho ho' as three prostitutes. ;-)

What do you expect... Australia will turn into America's next state the way things are going.
 
It's really saddening with all these school shootings and whatnot. I mean like, what could make these people so angry that they can't even tell anyone... I really hope there are no more.
