I've always wanted to be able to say that I have properly played through every single pokemon game at least once, both the mainline games and the extras along the way. And with me finally properly playing through Soul Silver for the very first time after a grueling starter shiny hunt (went over 40k seen, and took over a year and a half of on and off hunting...), I feel I would like to properly commit to the task if possible.

I will not be very focused on completing games I have already beaten, BUT I will be trying to replay every single one that is below gen 8 eventually since my memory of them is hazy and I no longer have most of those save files. I'll also potentially be doing some shiny hunting along the way.

I will have multiple goals for myself: Beat the main story, then any post-game content, and finally completing the regional pokedex eventually. (I may do national for specific ones, but frankly... I don't really want to at the moment.)

Now, I want to say that there will be some exceptions for the sideline games.
1. I will not be playing all of the mobile games, especially those that are heavy in transactions.
2. I will not be playing games that were not released in English. (There is one exception to this rule! PMD: Keep Going! for the Wii, as there is an unofficial english patch!)
3. I won't be playing any mini consoles like Tamagotchi or Pokemon mini that I could only play by having the console.

From here, I will continue working on my Soul Silver playthrough! I am currently four gyms in, with four more to go, and I have been having fun just taking my time and enjoying all of the extra activities the game has to offer like I would have if I'd played it on its actual release.

best of luck with this. Though i do wonder, how do you plan to go about dex completion in the older games? There isn't really anyone to trade with nowadays

Thanks! Most likely I'll just be trading with myself using multiple consoles, or in the case of DS and 3DS games, using unofficial Global Trade Station servers to trade when possible. It's still going to be a challenge though, that's for sure.

You are going to be at this for a long time. Considering that, for me, it takes roughly six months to complete one game, give or take, this is a Years project, especially given the craziness of the side games.
Oh for sure. I have no estimate on when the side games will even be started considering how long the pokedex completions are going to take in just the mainline games alone, which is what I would like to focus on first.

Soul Silver Update!
I have been taking a small break from the game due to the holidays, but now I'm back.
My current party is as follows:
Vicario- lvl 31

Zeeno- lvl 26

Some backstory on the shinies in this team- Vicario was the year and a half long hunt I took on at the beginning of this game that I mentioned previously. Zeeno, however, is a unique shiny I found on the previous save file on the cartridge I bought before resetting over it. I decided to keep him, as he seemed to be a legitimate shiny. I hadn't noticed any signs of cheats on the file, and the game hadn't been fully played through. I didn't realize I was capable of renaming him at the current location the game was in, otherwise I would have done so legitimately, but alas. I ended up using a modded 3DS to rename him from the standard Drowzee name, leaving everything else about him the same (including his clearly inaccurate catch date of May 4, 2000.)
Meep has been a huge help on the team alongside Toga. I have been challenging myself to use Pokémon I have never played with before, and more specifically Pokémon introduced in gen 2. The only exception thus far is Drowzee, since I have never used that line anyway, and it felt like a waste not to use him. I still don't know if I want to evolve him fully or not.

I am currently trying to level and rebuild my team to take down the 6th gym, Jasmine. I took it on previously without Mire, and it went pretty poorly. And so, Mire joins the team! I'm aiming to get her to level 33 before evolving to get earthquake a bit early, but I may not need to. We will see.

Any suggestions on the final member would be a big help! I initially wanted houndour not knowing that it isn't available until after the elite four... unless I am mistaken in some way. Maybe a different dark type? I've never played with a Murkrow or Umbreon... we shall see. I have also been debating Heracross, but can't seem to find one for some reason.

I also just realized that Mire is the first female Pokémon of the team! No wonder Whitney's fight was so frustrating.

Another random bit of news, I've realized my phone is incompatible with Magikarp Jump. Is this a game worth emulating on a different device? If not I may take it off of my list.

In a single day I have taken out the Rocket hideout and beaten two separate gyms in Olivine and Mahogany town. I managed to gain earthquake on Mire while working through the Team Rocket hideout, and evolve her as well. During the Mahogany gym challenge, both Zeeno and Meep evolved as well! Now the only one we are waiting on is Vicario, as I don't believe Toga can evolve until I beat the game if I'm remembering correctly? Vicario is overleveled for evolution because I kept delaying it until I am able to properly record it.

One more gym to go!

Also... I have been debating on if I wish to add a new section to my chart for mainline games- Trainer cards. I feel that may be too exhausting to aim for at the moment, as even completing the regular dexes is going to take a lot of effort. But it has been on my mind since I remembered the trainer cards upgrade recently... I most likely won't for every game. We shall see.

If anyone is interested in seeing the evolution videos, I could also upload those. They're not of any professional quality, just a quick clip I recorded from my phone as a keepsake. Maybe at the very end of beating the game I will upload them all at once.

My focus over the past few months has shifted since Legends Z-A and Pokopia have come out. I have always daydreamed of a gameplay concept of playing as a ditto pretending to be a trainer/human, so I instantly got absorbed into the game. Without leaving any kind of spoilers, I have officially completed the main storyline of that game and seen the ending credits today. It is unfortunately not the kind of gameplay loop that leaves me very engaged (I am not a Minecraft person either despite truly wanting to be...), but I am going to strive to collect all of the Pokémon in the dex and complete side quests as they appear. I do feel like I wish there was more to the game overall... but maybe there will be more interest as new event mon appear or potentially any updates. I may have rushed through the game as well, as I had very little interest in building things unless it was quest-oriented. Oh well.

I have also started Legends Z-A recently. I chose Tepig as my starter as I'd never played with them before, and the other two were johto starters that I'd already seen enough of recently lol. I can't really gauge how far I am into the story yet. All of this has left my Soul Silver playthrough on pause.

Speaking of Soul Silver, I have fully decided on my final teammate being Lugia. However, it has been delayed further due to me wanting to put in the effort of shiny hunting it (and even potentially capturing it in a premier ball). This has led to a lot of exhausting set up that ended up not even working because I didn't realize the moves Recycle and Trick don't actually work together... I guess I would need to swap Trick out for Fling?? I'm not sure, this is the first time I've ever had to go through such intense set up for a hunt, plus all of the level grinding to even try to survive Lugia's attacks. It's been exhausting so the Pokopia break was well needed. Any tips on how to go about this hunt would be much appreciated because at this point I am tempted to use my hacked 3DS to level up some Pokémon and teach them some moves, but only ones that aren't on my main team for this hunt.
