(I'm quite surprised this hasn't come up yet.)

From the judge's conclusion:

The Florida Bar has recommended disbarment for a period of ten (10) years. This Court respectfully declines to follow the Bar’s recommendation... This case involves factual findings of cumulative misconduct, a repeated pattern of behavior relentlessly forced upon numerous unconnected individuals, a total lack of remorse or even slight acknowledgement of inappropriate conduct...

Additionally, the Court is taking into consideration a review of the Respondent’s conduct not only as proven by the evidence, but by what this Court has witnessed of the Respondent’s behavior throughout the eighteen (18) months of litigation. The undersigned finds no evidence whatsoever to indicate that the Respondent is amenable to rehabilitation, or even remotely appreciates the basis upon which a need or purpose for such rehabilitation is warranted...

Over a very extended period of time involving a number of totally unrelated cases and individuals, the Respondent has demonstrated a pattern of conduct to strike out harshly, extensively, repeatedly and willfully to simply try to bring as much difficulty, distraction and anguish to those he considers in opposition to his causes. He does not proceed within the guidelines of appropriate professional behavior, but rather uses other means available to intimidate, harass, or bring public disrepute to those whom he perceives oppose him.

Thus, after careful consideration of the underlying facts in the instant cases, together with the Florida Standards for Imposing Lawyer Sanctions, the applicable aggravating and mitigating factors and the precedent case law, this Court makes the following recommendations for John Bruce Thompson:

A. Permanent disbarment, with no leave to reapply for admission.
B. Disciplinary costs currently totaling $43,675.35.

OWNED.

Odd. I thought there was a thread on this. Maybe it was in my mind.

I listened to the audio of the hearing, and (which he walked out on) it's hilarious. I thought that at least in the courtroom he would show some kind of professionalism, but he acts in his trademark loony fashion right up until his dramatic exit.

Like all good villains, I'm sure this is far from the last we'll hear of Mr. Thompson.

Isn't he the guy who had such horrible tirades on video games. If he is, than oh well, maybe we'll see himm in a gas station somewhere.

Lets hope some conservative newspaper :COUGH:The Mail:COUGH: isn't planning any crappy sequels :p
I'm surprised that this didn't happened sooner, has he even won a single case before?

Ding Dong, the twit is dead etc, etc!

Almost overdue to be honest, but as they say better late than never. I think this guy was rather entertaining, however there was no reason for him to be allowed to practice.

Not good. Who will entertain the gamers now?

That thread wasn't really dealing with the disbarment, per se. Just his hearings. Though in retrospect, I probably should have simply updated the thread with the story.

And this sadly, probably isn't the end. Nothing's stopping him from continuing his fight without his title- in fact, now that he's no longer an attorney, he'll have more time to go around inventing facts. But his disbarment WILL give his credibility quite a hit with mainstream America and the media (with the exception of the evangelical nutjobs, who, as was pointed out on GamePolitics, will probably paint him as a martyr now.)

Reason has finally won out.

Only who will replace him as the "most hated person by gamers"?

Unfortunately, as someone said, evangelicals will probably see him as a martyr.

And I hope he is disbarred FOREVER.

Also, I heard he tried to stop Halo 3, yeah like Microsoft is going to let that occur... oh wait, they didn't! :phew:

And this quote from Gamepolitic showed how futile trying to stop Halo 3 is:

Lol, as if he could stop Halo 3. That's like putting your dick on a train track hoping it will stop the train!

And this portrait by a Deviant Artist is epic win: http://bratbassist.deviantart.com/art/Fuck-You-Jack-Thompson-45086649 ("Fuck you Jack!" with videogame equipment and games)

I'm glad he's disbarred as he can't do sue videogame companies but something worries me. Since he's probably not gonna give up fighting videogames and since he is no longer a lawyer that means he can pull more "facts" out of his ass WITHOUT repercussion.

But, since the disbarment probably took his reputation and credibility straight to hell, who's gonna believe him?
