Re: June International

You mean the international challenge? I finished my 60 matches this morning, hoping that my score peaked 1600. I had that score this morning, but then the random match-up thought it would be fun to pair me up against someone with a score over 1700 and well...

Yeah, I'd gone through about 30 matches when I made the thread. I ended up hovering around upper 1500s early 1600s even though I must have dc'd in like 15 games :l One time I even dc'd 5 games in a row, I wanted to throw my DS. So obnoxious. My Hydreigon is built to get 2/3ko'd by common checks... But Garchomps seem to like critting dragon claw vs. Hydreigon a lot and that ended up as badly as you'd expect. I had really good match-ups against trick room teams because my Aerodactyl carries taunt and really bad match-ups versus weather teams even though I ran M-Venusaur. So it goes, I guess xD

Fortunately, in all of my 60 matches (the maximum number you're allowed), I'd estimate that only 5 of them ending in disconnects. A couple were admittedly due to my connection suddenly dropping, but the majority were rather curiously timed if you catch my drift xD. The disconnect rate was nowhere near as bad as it was in Generation V Wi-Fi tournaments though - that was absolutely insufferable and I even found myself disqualified from past tournaments simply because too many players disconnected against me (back then, TPCi had no idea how to tell who disconnected).
I did have some really frustrating matches that ended with me shouting profanities I thought I'd forgotten at my 3DS screen though. For example, there was one where I was facing a high ranking player and would have won had I made Mienshao use Poison Jab instead of High Jump Kick, because they protected, causing the move to miss and Mienshao to knock itself out.

I hear you with Garchomp. My Goodra is built to endure any special threat (it can take a Draco Meteor from either a Salamence or a Garchomp, as well as a Gardevoir Moonblast and still have more than 50% HP left) but a Garchomp Dragon Claw rips through it. Aside from Greninja being able to 1HKO them with Ice Beam, I've found Mega Charizard X to be an effective way to deal with them - sometimes, they'll use Rock Slide (expecting me to Mega Evolve into Y), so I'll Mega Evolve into X, survive the Rock Slide and hit them with a Dragon Claw. A lot of them having the Rough Skin ability now can be rather mean as well (Especially when they double it up with Rocky Helmet) - I've lost quite a few Pokémon to that this weekend.

Personally, I found Azumarill to be particularly nasty in this tournament, which is probably because I'd recently replaced my Mega Mawile and Amoonguss with Mega Charizard X and Mienshao. Mienshao would be able to deal about 50% damage with a Poison Jab and survive a Play Rough due to its Focus Sash, but unless Meowstic was paired with it to block Aqua Jet with Quick Guard, Mienshao wouldn't last much longer. I don't regret bringing in Mienshao though, as he's the perfect Mega Kangaskhan counter - Inner Focus allows it to absorb Fake Out, then 1HKO with High Jump Kick. I think I need to replace Will-O-Wisp on my Gardevour with Energy Ball (would help with those darn Rotom too).

Well, I ended up somewhat better than last International, at least in terms of number of battles. I won more battles in this International than the previous one, yet I somehow have a lower rating than the previous one. I hate this scoring system. And every single team had at least one of the following:Kangaskhan, Garchomp, Rotom, Talonflame or Greninja. I wish they could ban non-Legendary Pokemon for these competitions, just so I couldn't face the same cookie cutter strategies over and over or slight variations of it.

florges i hate that thing
energy ball, moon blast, psychic and packs more bulk than gardevoir. cruel, cruel cruel.

garchomp dies to -2 specs draco meteor from hydreigon, which is why i hated how it would crit the initial dragon claw T____T

my team MVP was definitely aerodactyl though. being able to taunt and rock slide with impunity was just so great. tailwind to outspeed threats was also great.

and i tend to disagree that this format is stale. i think it really rewards creativity and there's a lot more viable pokemon in this format than the previous format.

Mega Charizard X was my MVP by a long shot. In one battle, I was 4-2 down in a battle which turned into a 0-2 thanks to The Spanish Inquisition - DYTG-WWWW-WWW8-2M45.
