Surprised we don't have this already!

A couple of days from now (I think it's on Thursday 14th of August) Junichi Masuda is having a video appearance at Gamescom and will be talking about the Pokemon Franchise. A similar event to this happened last year at Japan Expo where he revealed Honedge to the world for the first time.

So, what do you think Mr. Masuda will have in store for us? Just some general news? A mega evolution? Gameplay changes? Possibly revisiting what was revealed in this months CoroCoro?

My guesses are that he's going to reveal a mega evolution that we haven't seen yet, or he's going to go more in-depth on some gameplay mechanics.
I'm hoping for another mega evolution/s, personally.

Probably just going to be a pre-recorded message to fans of the original games to try and love this as much as the originals, followed with a 3 minute trailer detailing all the major graphical changes to the games, or something. I can only assume its going to have a surprise, considering how Hoenn is basically Masuda's Lightning.

Gamescon is beginning a day after I expect The Pokémon Company International to reveal this month's CoroCoro stuff, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot of repetition. As for anything new? There is a possibility, considering how Honedge was revealed.

We had Honedge and Mega Kangkashan reveals at events last year (also Mega Sableye was revealed at something during E3), so it could potentially be something new. I'm not going to get my hopes up though, I'll just wait to see what the video is. It might just be something like a nostalgia trip video looking at RS and then ORAS.

I'd think that Masuda and Game Freak at least know when they officially release information so I'd expect something new (in terms of news). Maybe he's just going to give some generic speech about the future of Pokemon.

Personally, I want to see something else at Gamescon. They have so many other avenues to release Mega Evolution, unless this is the most wanted Mega Evolution ever, I don't see it worth the spotlight. Tell us something that'll make us want ORAS, something that's beyond "Look, remake with pretty graphics and mega evolution!". Nothing in these games is completely new--they're either expected upgrades from the old (like the wireless functionality for Secret Bases), or adopting new game mechanics from XY.

It might just be something like a nostalgia trip video looking at RS and then ORAS.

Or the best nostalgia trip and we get another fully animated trailer like B2W2 or a special like Origins.

I still kind of expect them to do some sort of anime promotion for ORAS -- it makes sense to follow the recent tradition: BW2 had the animated trailer, XY had Origins (which yes, was mostly based on gen 1 but still obviously used as XY promotion) and ORAS will probably have something too... I guess expecting anything Origins-like would be too much, so I say BW2-like animated trailer is the most likely thing... although maybe we can hope for a bit more, like a full ep detailing the early part of the game maybe? (similarly to the MD episodes)

After everything being confirmed via trailer so early, I highly doubt they'd rehash the same stuff. I'm guessing it's either Mega Lati@s or something else.

Maybe Mega-Sharpedo with the official pokemon twitter hinting at it (it could me nothing anyway) ?!

I'm thinking Mega Milotic. I'm not sure, but I'd imagine Milotic would be a Pokemon more popular with Western audiences.

Wouldn't the best promotion (in GameFreak's screwed up logic) be the anime? If past trends hold true, we'll get a movie promoting the remakes (Mew and Lucario's movie promoted FR/LG and D/P, and Zoroark and Celebi's movie promoted HG/SS and B/W) and maybe even promoting the first pair of Gen. 7 games. Which makes no sense... Unless GameFreak's not planning on revisiting Kalos this Generation, which to me would be foolish. It feels... unfinished.

Or we could even get an arc remotely based on the remakes. Ash traveled to Kanto for the Battle Frontier instead of its Emerald-exclusive island. Why? To promote FireRed and LeafGreen (which is dumb. I wanted to meet Leaf!). Lyra met Ash and friends in Sinnoh. Why? To promote HeartGold and SoulSilver. (Marina, Kris' anime counterpart, also has a cameo in the DP series, which is just a fun little trivia tidbit)

So I feel like we might not get an Origins special or a trailer. Especially not with how beloved May is. I think most people wouldn't like seeing Game May as opposed to Anime May. Which btw, might be another way they promote the remakes. Either May will come back (and with the focus on contests again, she most likely will, as well as Dawn!) or we'll finally meet Brendan or even Wally, which is also highly unlikely.

But hey, Ash did say he'd eventually battle Steven when they first met, and Steven loves stones. He might be the one to make an appearance, despite being a Character of the Day in the anime.

But I've gotten seriously off topic. I have no idea what Junichi is revealing and I'm totally pumped for whatever it may be, even if it's just M. Lati@s for the simple fact that we'll finally get official artwork!

The official japnese site didn't get an update yet, they're surely waiting for this message to do it.

Wait. Let's not have another Corocoro here. "...there will be a video message from Pokémon game director Junichi Masuda regarding Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire..." It says absolutely nothing about a reveal. Nothing.

We get the same thing last year in the France Japan Expo where they said that there would be a message from Masuda regarding XY and then we get Honedge !

Mega-Milotic may it be then. Is there a Hoenn Pokemon that's more popular in the West?

I'm guessing the release of Megas Slowbro and Audino was planned for Gamescom...

^^Same thought. But at least we might know something about their stats.

Well we know Mega Slowbro has increased Def and Sp.Atk and that Mega Audino has increased Def + Sp.Def. I don't think we'll find it anything more about their stats.
