Junichi is quite significant as he is just a character of the day as far as Ash is concerned, yet he also had a part in saving the world. We all know what 4Kids did to him in "The Legend of Thunder", but is there more of an explanation for it than "4Kids suck"? Would the Japanese writers have done the same? It is certainly not out of character for him...

We know that he wants Marina to become his girlfriend and that he sees competition from Jimmy. That much is canon. We also know that there are seemingly no bounds to how he expresses his love in an attempt to impress Marina. He makes a show of himself, as was seen most clearly in his match against Macy in the Silver Conference. It can be embarrassing, really, yet he never notices it himself.

So how do you impress a girl like Marina who you think has her eyes on another boy? Well, a cool sounding name is one way to go. Dub-wise, at least, he must have been a bit self-conscious of being called Vincent. And so we see the first attempts at a cooler name when he becomes Marina's knight in shining armour a cool cape. In the dub, he goes by the name of FabuVinny after Marina's clear crush on FabuLance. In the original, he goes by the name of Jun'ichi-sama after Marina's clear crush on Wataru-sama. Either way, both versions of the character act the same.

The only difference is that Vincent went a little bit further. When that didn't work, and it is possible that Marina was more interested in Jimmy than Lance by this stage anyway, he entered the Silver Conference with another cool name. This time he went further away from his own name, but still linked onto the J sound of Jimmy: Jackson. Did it work? I doubt it.

Ah, well. I'm sure his siblings, Dani and Yoshi, still love him. ;-)
