Like all authors, his best works were his earliest. I remember that one book where Ralph Nader tried to kill a bunch of people to prove Global Warming was real and the other where he said one of his critics raped a toddler.

Still, good job on a lot of the others.

Oh no...he was a favorite author of mine, too. Jurassic Park and Timeline were some of my favorite books of all time, and that's saying something. R.I.P., Mr. Chrichton. Your legacy is not forgotten.

He will be missed... sadly, many will not only remeber him for his novels, but also for his controversial views. But then again,he was entitled to his opinion.

I disagreed entirely on his views of global warming, but he was nonetheless one of my favourite authors; Congo and Next ranking particularly high for me.

I know State of Fear was pretty controversial, but I liked the overall message. I wouldn't say I thought it was the worst (science fiction) novel of his that I read though (that "honor" goes to Timeline). My favorites by far will always be Jurassic Park and The Lost World (who would've guessed).

It's pretty disappointing knowing that we will never have a new novel written by him.

I actually really liked Timeline.

Rest in peace, Michael.

I didn't like some of his later books (Next, Prey) but his earlier works (Jurassic Park, The Andromeda Strain) are great.

I did not agree at all with any of his political views, and I wasn't even much of a fan of his written works, but there is no denying the heavy sway this man held in the American conscience.

No...that's awful. I can't believe it. From Andromeda Strain to Next, he was a great author. I never even knew he had cancer.

Well, there was a novel supposed to be coming out in December I think, but it's been bumped back to a posthumous release next March following this news.

That's very interesting to know, thanks for sharing. Is there a link to more information about that?

By the way, I hope I didn't offend anyone who likes Timeline.

Well, if they preserve him in amber, he might just come back. ;)

I did admire the JP series and I dug Westworld too. He must have been traumatized at a theme park when he was little. ;)

According to his Wiki bio, the novel's ISBN is 978-0007241019. It's slated for release in May 2009 (postponed from a December 2008 release).

Definitely a saddening moment for me. Like many, I grew up reading a number of Crichton's works, including 'Jurassic Park', 'The Lost World', 'Andromeda Strain', and 'Eaters of the Dead.' While my views seldomly coincided with his, many of his works were excellent stories that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's a pity we'll only have one last great hurrah from him.

I haven't read much of his nonfiction, but "Five Patients" is pretty interesting. It was written in the 70s, so it's more medical history than practice, but it's still good.
