I noticed a "Trackback" option whenever I post and I'm not sure what it does. If it's an alert to replies, then I'd like to know how to work it because that sounds useful.

How do I add a signature?

I'm new, so is there an ettiquet that goes beyond common sense or are the basic rules just, "Don't be stupid." (I've read the forum rules, I'm talking about basic socially accepted ettiquet)

If "Trackback" isn't a notification for replies and posts to threads I've started, is there a way to get e-mail alerts for that?

What is bumping? (I've heard only bump your thread ever so often, but how would you do that/what is it?)

Edit: I understand the signature, and how to get notifications now. Thank you to those who answered my questions.

Sorry I don't know what the trackback thing is as vB4 is foreign to me.

But... "How do I add a signature?"

Scroll all the way to the top and click "Settings". Once you're there find "My Settings" on the left of your screen and somewhere it should say "Edit Signature".

Also you might have to be a little more active around the forums before being able to edit it. I think the staff added a few restrictions on signatures for new users until they get to a certain level of activity due to a massive problem they had with spam bots and stuff.

I don't know what trackback does but if you want to subscribe to a thread in "Thread Tools" at the top of the thread you click "Subscribe To Thread" and chose the options from there.

For the Signature you go to "Settings" up at the top next to your notifications and click "Edit Signature" and make it from there.

And yes it is basically "Don't be Stupid." Some of the rules go deeper then that but that is the main gist of it.

EDIT: Post 666. Is this a good thing?

Nice! Thanks. I feel really stupid for not seeing the "Signature" thing, but thanks anyways.

"BUMP" means Bump Up My Post. This counts for either Post-count or usually raising your thread to the top. Only under extremely specific circumstances may one bump here. Check out the rules.

Trackback is an option that lets you give credit/notify a site or blog that you are using information from them. Basically gives credit as a source to where you got information from to put in a post.

LinkBacks, along with Pingbacks, are forms of Trackbacks that, as G50 said, notify a Trackback-accepting blog or website that you're using content from them (LinkBacks) or simply to notify a website of something (PingBacks), from what I understand.

Please take the age of this thread into consideration in writing your reply. Depending on what exactly you wanted to say, you may want to consider if it would be better to post a new thread instead.
