Prologue
“The Unsure Soul”
~

The news of the kishin Asura’s death reached the surrounding towns of the Death Weapon Meister Academy. It also reached the ears of a girl with long white blond hair and golden eyes. The girl stood in a store, where she worked to continue her travels, when she heard the news. She smiled at this; then, she continued her work. However, deep in her mind, she thought surely another kishin would rise to the power of complete madness.

“Hey, Izumi! The DWMA finally did it! They killed the kishin” addressed a usual customer to her. She smiled up at him and replied simply, “It’s not over yet.”

Chapter 1
“The Hunted Soul”
~

Izu ran through the brick alleyways of the densely populated city close to Death City. She understood right at this minute that she needed to find a Meister and Weapon pair or she would die. She tripped over a broken brick piece in the road and hit her face into the road. She cursed mentally and pulled herself up to her knees. No way was she going to die because of a stupid piece of broken brick! However, her she was sitting on her knees with a kishin about to eat her soul.

Izu called out to her shinigami power side, the side she had purposely hid to appear human. Appearing in a dark bubble was her flying skateboard which she grabbed quickly. She tossed the skateboard to the ground and jumped on. The skateboard shot them into the air above the city and Izu screamed. It had been almost eight years the last time she had used her skateboard. She was not used to her small fifteen year old body floating in the open air on a tiny skateboard.

Breathing in deeply to calm herself, Izu looked down to the alleyway below to search for the kishin. She found it staring up at her from where she had tripped. It was normal looking as any kishin could look with its long black hair and glowing red eyes. To Izu, it looked like the demon from the books her mother used to read her at night. Slowly, Izu called forth her best friend Mizuki’s witch soul given to her at her death. She chanted out a mantra of sealing and sent it at the kishin. Long white strings curled around the kishin holding its struggling body to the alleyway road.

Izumi smiled down at the kishin in triumph then looked around trying to sense the soul of a Meister. Her soul perception allowed her to see a young girl the same as age as her with pigtail blond ash hair and green eyes next to a boy with white hair and red eyes. It was a Weapon and Meister pair and they were coming to the town on a motorcycle. Izu smiled relieved they were coming. The Meister would be able to sense the evil kishin soul.

Distracted, Izumi didn’t sense when the kishin broke free of the capture mantra. Only when it pierced its long claws into her back did she finally see her mistake. She flew off the skateboard in a shower of blood and tumbled towards the ground. Before she blanked out she forced her soul to send a final urgent message to the Meister. “Help! Please help me,” she screamed before the darkness of unconsciousness consumed her thoughts.
~
She sat staring wide eyed with fright at the kishin standing in front of them. Her tiny five year old body shook with fear and sadness. Her mother’s soul was gone, swallowed by the monster in front of her. She sat in a puddle of her dead brother’s blood. He had tried to protect her, the little soul that had attracted this monster. A shinigami soul was a powerful soul that held strong powers. Izumi’s family only knew of two other shinigami souls, Death the Kid and Lord Death. The kishin didn’t care for the souls of her mother and brother. Only her soul would fill its soul with more power.

The little Izumi crawled backwards towards the open door trying to stay away from the kishin. She just couldn’t let the monster eat her too. The kishin reached its claws toward her and she screamed at it. The kishin paused for a second before continuing to reach. Izumi cried and scooted back faster until she bumped into something. She looked up frightened and saw a blue eyed man with red hair. He smiled down at her then looked up at the kishin with a frown.

“Kishin you have killed this young girl’s family and as a death scythe I won’t let you hurt her,” he declared as a woman came next to him in the doorway, “are you ready to take their souls Kami?”

“Yes spirit let’s take the soul of this kishin,” Kami replied in an anger filled voice, “but don’t you think I’m going to forget you went and cheated on me again!” She reached her hand out to Spirit. Izumi watched in amazement as the man Spirit transformed into a cross shaped hafted scythe with a long black blade. Kami looked down at her and smiled. Izumi moved to the side to let Kami walk in.

“Close your eyes Izumi Kaneko. Don’t open them before I tell you to,” Kami commanded of Izumi. Izu closed her eyes and hugged her legs to her body. She heard Kami walk forward towards the kishin.
~
Izumi woke up to the final scream of the kishin before it vanished into a red soul. She pushed herself up to her knees and cringed from the pain of it. Before her was the Meister who had been with red eyed boy with white hair. The Meister held a long grey, staff-like hafted scythe with a black and red blade.

“Glad you’re awake. I’m Maka Albarn,” the Meister said as she turned to face Izu. She motioned to the scythe, “oh and this is Soul Eater!” The scythe transformed into the red eyed boy with white hair Izu saw with Maka.

“I’m Izumi Kaneko, Izu for short. Thank you for saving me,” Izumi replied as she stood up. She swayed a little bit then stumbled over to the kishin soul that floated in the air. She reached her hand out at it as if to touch it but then pulled back. She turned towards Maka and Soul. “I’m sorry it’s my own fault it was chasing me. Yet, I couldn’t defeat it.” She then took the red soul in her hand and threw it towards Soul. “You’re a weapon so this should be a good meal.”

He smiled at Izu and grabbed the soul. “Thank you for the meal,” he said before gulping the soul down. He turned away and walked to the motorcycle that sat unnoticed by a store front window. “Well Maka we better get back to the mission.” Maka looked from Izu to Soul and back. She frowned and replied, “we can’t just leave her alone Soul! Izu, where do you live?”

Izumi turned her eyes for Soul to Maka and sighed. “I don’t really have a home. After mom and brother died, I lived with my friend Mizuki but now she’s gone too. I’ve been travelling the world since then.”

Maka and Soul looked at her surprised. Finally, Maka replied, “You have no home? Then you have to come with us to Death City!” She raised her hand to Izumi in a friendly gesture. “Will you come please?”

“How are we supposed to take her to Death City Maka” Soul asked and patted the motorcycle. “This thing will only hold you and me.” He frowned and turned his gaze to Izumi before getting up and walking to her. “You should go to the DWMA to get help from Lord Death. He will help you.” He turned to Maka. “You could even maybe become a Meister like Maka. You have the potential! Maka told me you had enough Soul Perception to see us and send Maka a message. That’s pretty cool!”

“Uh, thank you but I don’t know if I really want to get the help of Lord Death.” Izumi said with a sigh. “I can’t actually. If he knew about me, he might…” She let the sentence go, knowing if she told them she would be in trouble. Having not only a shinigami soul but also a witch soul would not be a good thing to tell them. On the menu to become Lord Death’s personal weapon was a witch soul, after all. She smiled sadly at Soul. For some reason she wanted to tell him the absolute truth and that scared her. Finally, she turned and began to walk away.

“Wait!” Soul ran up to her and grabbed her shoulder. “You have to! It’s not safe for you to travel the world alone! What if another kishin tries to eat your soul Izumi and we’re not there to protect you?” He turned Izu around to face him. “It’s not safe Izumi.”

“I know it’s not safe,” Izumi replied and looked away from his face. Her gaze found a poster on the window of a store front. It read, “DWMA is here to protect you. Come if you need help!” She sighed at it and turned her gaze back to Soul. “You’re right, but you don’t understand why that kishin wanted me!”

Soul stared at her then tightened his grip on her shoulder. “Then why did that kishin want your soul Izumi? Why would that possibly influence your decision to go to the DWMA?”

“I’m a Death God and I have a witch soul! I’m someone who someone like you would hunt down to eat!” Izumi screamed at him and pulled away from his grip. This was it! They would want to kill her! She turned away and began to run towards her skateboard that lay on the ground a couple of feet. However, Soul grabbed her wrist before she could run and pulled her back around. His eyes showed a little anger. Oh god, Izu thought as she tried to pull her wrist from his grip.

“You think I want to eat your soul? How uncool,” Soul replied as he tightened his grip on her wrist. “So what if you have a witch’s soul? You are a Death God, right? I don’t eat Death God souls!” He smiled at her. Maka who had been strangely quiet walked up to them.

“He is right just because you have a witch soul doesn’t mean we will hunt you down. You’re also a Death God like Death the Kid! That is awesome! Now you really have to come to the DWMA. We could use a Meister like you,” Maka said happily. She went over the skateboard and picked it up. She offered the skateboard to Izumi. “Soul if we bring her to the school, she can use this to come right? I remember Kid had a skateboard like this. He called it Beezlebub, I think? Can you Izu?”

“Yes, it’s a lot like Death the Kid’s Beezlebub.” Izumi looked from Maka back to Soul. “Can you let go of me? I promise not to run.” Soul looked startled then let go. Izu walked over to Maka and grabbed her skateboard. She put in on the ground and got on. “Though, I’m not good at it. I’ve been hiding my skills for over eight years.” She closed her eyes and focused on her shinigami powers. When she opened her eyes she floated off the ground above Soul and Maka. “See?”

“Great! Follow us Izumi! We will guide you to the academy! Right Soul,” Maka asked Soul. He shrugged and walked back to his motorcycle. Maka followed after him and they took off on towards Death City.

“Ahh! Wait!” Izumi followed them towards the city and the shinigami she had been avoiding her whole life.

Re: Just another Soul Eater Fan Fic

Really good start! I love your description and you clearly have a good handle on the story and where it's headed.

One suggestion might be to space your paragraphs a little better so that it just isn't a huge block of text for the reader. Double-space whenever you start a new paragraph just because of the forum's format for spacing.

Other than that, I think you got a great thing going here. Please continue!

Re: Just another Soul Eater Fan Fic

Well I thought I would get this done earlier but I'm glad I finally stopped arguing with myself over how to write this chapter. It got me awhile to stop playing Pokemon Black for the DS and actually finish it! :sweatlol: anyways I hope you enjoy.

Chapter 2
“The Gunblade’s Last Breath?”
~

His spiked mid-length copper blond hair blew back as he tumbled to the cobblestone courtyard below. He had jumped off the ledge were students relax during lunch hour. He was Reaper Drethnet, an unpartnered revolver gunblade weapon for the Death Weapon Meister Academy. Reaper was tired all the tedious lackluster lectures the teachers gave to all the unpartnered weapons. Of course, that was no reason for a suicidal attempt, was it? No, he had heard the teachers talking in the hallway.

“Reaper isn’t going to find a partner in time. He lacks a compatible personality,” whispered Reaper’s homeroom teacher in the ear of the neighboring homeroom teacher.

“He has a personality of sadness and weakness. It’s not surprising that any Meister wouldn’t pick him as a partner. He would probably chicken out in the middle of an important mission,” the other teacher replied. The two teachers began to walk off towards the lunch room unaware of the damage they had just done.

Reaper had been leaning against the classroom door listening to them. Somehow he had ended up on the floor at the end of the conversation. He tried to reason in his mind that they were just joking and that he was bound to find a partner any day. Reaper was the eldest weapon in his class. Every year younger weapons had found partners and had joined the elder class. Yet there he was leafing through text book pages and staring out windows in the classroom he had set most of his life.

Staring down at the courtyard below, Reaper did not regret the choices he had made or the life he had lead. He was just so tired of all the teasing and the disappointed looks of his teacher. He was so tired of it all!

“You know dying won’t solve the problem right? You’re such a baka,” called out a voice that caught his wrist. “If you really want to get rid of the problem find another way. Izumi Kaneko won’t sit back and watch somebody fall to their death!”

Reaper felt himself deadweight which caused excruciating pain to his arm. He gave himself a second to muffle the moan before looking up at who had caught him. A girl around his age sat cross-legged on what looked like a flying skateboard. He blinked twice and yes, it was a flying skateboard. He turned his green eyes from the board to her gold glaring eyes.

“Well then you shouldn’t have watched Miss Izumi Kaneko,” he cracked back sarcastically. He felt her grip tighten painfully on his wrist. “Oww! Jesus how freaken strong are you!”

“Strong enough to break your idiotic head! I’m going to set you on the ground you stupid weapon and you best not try to go kill yourself again,” Izumi replied simply as she lowered the skateboard to the ground. When she was satisfied with the height she let go of his wrist. Reaper landed gracefully on the ground. Two seconds later he was joined by the strange girl in her black jeans and white hoodie.

“Alright since you “saved me”. I’m Reaper Drethnet,” he said, offering his hand to shake. She took it lightly but gave it a firm shake before releasing him all together.

“I have to go find Maka and Soul. I expect to be enrolling as a Meister soon. Best go to find Lord….”

“Hold on! A Meister! Do you happen to have a partner? Maybe you could be mine,” Reaper interrupted eagerly. What if she would become his partner! But that’s just silly, he replied to himself mentally. This girl thinks you’re an idiot!

“Maybe but first I have to enroll. Have you seen…?”

“Izumi! There you are,” Maka yelled as she jogged up to Izumi. Soul walked slowly behind her. “We have been lo…”

“You could give her a second to reply talk Maka,” Soul interrupted. He turned to Reaper, “hey I saw what happened. What was all that Reaper? Did you not find a partner this year either?”

Reaper flushed a little and avoided Izumi’s gaze. “No seems I won’t find one. It’s about time I just give up.”

“Hey that’s no way to talk! If it’s that bad I’ll be your par…” Izumi tried to reply.

“Hey! Soul! You’re finally back! We have totally been waiting for you for an hour man!” yelled a boy with blue hair as he ran up to Soul.

“Oh hey Black Star. Could you wait a little longer?” Soul turned and glance at Izumi as he said it. That made the kid turn and size her up.

“Oh! Ha-ha didn’t mean to interrupt. I’ll see you later man,” Black Star replied before running back the way he came.

“Sorry about that Iz…”

“What the heck did he mean about “Interrupt” Soul?” Maka turned her accusingly green eyes at him.

Lovely their going to fight, Reaper thought as he grabbed Izumi’s hand and began to pull her out of the way. “I’ll show you to Lord Death! That might take awhile,” he told Izumi as they walked away from the arguing pair.

“Oh, uh, thank you,” Izumi replied following him into the school. She looked back and forth from wall to wall occasionally glancing nervously into the classrooms filled with other teenagers and teachers. I decided to do this don’t chicken out now, she thought fiercely to herself.

Reaper, unaware of her nervousness, walked up to the Death Room’s door and knocked. “Lord Death I have brought Izumi Kaneko to see you!” After a sufficient amount of time he opened the door but was stopped by Izumi who suddenly pulled him back. He turned to see what she was doing and found her with her head hung. “Hey what’s the ma…?”

“Nothing! I mean… Oh god I’m scared Reaper. You saw it, the flying skateboard and my strength to hold you from falling. I’m not a normal human Reaper! What if he determines that I’m too dangerous and tries to ki…?”

“Wait slow down Izumi! Lord Death won’t kill you silly. So what if you’re not totally human. It’s not like you’re here to kill us,” Reaper said trying to calm her. She slowly lifted her head and met his gaze. She nodded softly and started walking into the door.

Reaper and Izumi continued to walk in under the torii gates and bright blue sky smudged only by the white clouds. When they got to the huge mirror Reaper walked up to it.

“Four two- four two- five six four, when you want to knock on death’s door,” Reaper replied as he traced the numbers on the mirror and backed away.

The mirror flashed white before displaying Lord Death. His black robe and white skull mask was what gave him away. Izumi tried not to snicker at the appearance and succeeded. Even if he looks funny, he’s still a Death god, she thought to herself.

“Hello, Hello! Oh you must be Izumi Kaneko and what a surprise! Reaper you’re here too! Welcome, Welcome,” Lord Death cried out as he got a look at the two.

“Hello Lord Death,” Izumi and Reaper replied together. Izumi stepped forward. “Lord Death I would like to talk to you about maybe becoming a DWMA Meister.”

“Oh yes that would be lovely! Izumi you are always welcome. I remember the stories that Spirit used to tell me about you,” Death replied simply.

“Spirit still remembers me? I can’t believe…”

“Izumi,” screamed a voice behind her. The voice ran up behind her and tackled her before she could turn around. “It’s really you! Maka said she found you! It’s been so long and you’ve grown up so pretty!”

“What! Who are you,” Izumi asked trying to turn to the voice.

“What you don’t remember me!”

“I might if you let go of me so I could see,” Izumi replied angrily. She felt the presence move away and she turned to see who it was. Her mouth formed an “o” and she then smiled. “Spirit!”

“Glad you finally are excited to see me! I can’t believe you’ve grown up so…”

“Dad! Leave Izumi alone,” Maka screamed as she came through the door. Soul followed a few minutes later with a huge bruise on his forehead. He grinned at Izumi.

“But! Maka daddy loves you so! I also know Izumi so I have the right to talk to her,” Spirit replied to his daughter.

“Oh! No you don’t,” Maka replied and ran up to him with a book outstretched.

“Maka don’t! I didn’t mean…”

“Maka Chop!” Maka hit him upside the head with her book. “Now go away!” She turned and walked over to Izumi smiling in triumph. Spirit’s eyes watered and he ran out of the room.

“Don’t forget daddy loves you Maka,” Spirit screamed out before exiting the room.

“I don’t have a dad! Anyways, Lord Death did you accept Izumi as a student,” Maka asked curiously.

“Well yes but she’ll need a weapon partner,” Death replied and his gaze turned to Reaper, “you seem to get along with her Reaper. Why not be her weapon partner?”

“Lord Death I don’t know if our souls are compatible though! There’s a pretty low chance they are,” Reaper replied hanging his head in shame. He suddenly was very angry Izumi for saving him from his suicide attempt. It was one thing to hear the teachers say he would never find a partner but if Lord Death said so then he wouldn’t be able to stand it.

“Actually due to my Soul Perception I can tell we have compatible souls Reaper. That’s why I didn’t deny you of a partnership before,” Izumi chimed in. She smiled at Reaper, her eyes glowing just a bit.

“Seriously! We have compatible souls,” Reaper replied excited. A partner! A real partner, Reaper though happily.

“Yes, since we found you a partner, welcome to Death Weapon Meister Academy Izumi! Hope you enjoy your stay!” Lord Death clapped his hands and the mirror went blank.

I did it! I got into the DWMA, Izumi thought happily as she tugged on Reaper’s sleeve. This boy would be her new weapon partner. She was a little curious to actually get to know him. Yet, hopefully she would be able to help him. After all, she had saved him from a suicide attempt. What if he became suicidal again? What if she wasn’t there to save him? Izumi put the thoughts to rest and smiled. She would finally be able to do something good in this world. Her parents would be so proud!
