1954 - Tropical storm Alice formed on december 30, at 6AM GMT. (But was originaly thought to have formed only two days later - on January 1st, hence the A-name)

This used to be the latest in the season a tropical storm ever formed. Used to be, because this record, just like about every other record in the hurricane book, now bear the mention "until the 2005 season".

Zeta formed nine hours after Alice (well, 51 years and nine hours, but you get my meaning).

yup, it's a Tropical Storm alright and it might last through New Year's day. It's the tropical season that refuses to call it quits and might just meld into the next one and make one long season.
