Variety reported today on the announcement of George Miller as the director of Warner Bros.' Justice League of America, based on the hugely popular DC Comics title. Miller is best known for directing the films Happy Feet, Babe, and as the creator of Mad Max.

Likely to feature the characters of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman, the project is complicated by virtue of the fact that many Justice League heroes have other films in development, but Variety reports that the next installment of the Superman franchise has been sidelined in favor of the George Miller film. Additionally, The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale have indicated that they would prefer Warner Bros. delay production on the team-up film until they've completed their Batman projects.

Justice League of America is in the preliminary casting phase, and sources close to the film have indicated that Bale and Brandon Routh, star of the revived Superman franchise, are not likely to appear in the film.

The entire thing is...questionable. There's been talk of it being a "motion-capture animation" style movie. And, as it says, no Routh. No Bale. I...just...don't have much faith in this. But, hey, we'll see how it turns out. If it's as good as the cartoon, then it'll be great. But...there are other ways to go... Worse ways...

It'll be interesting to see who gets to be Aquaman, as the TV show didn't even get off the ground. I was hoping Bale would be in it.

Sounds like it will be crap, but the Mighty Max TV show was actually really really good, so I'm vaugely optimistic.

He created Mad Max, not Mighty Max. Y'know, Mel Gibson. Post-apocalyptic world. Savage people with freaky vehicles killing each other over...was it oil or water?

Mad Max just...adds an odd sort of irrelevance to his work.

George Miller's IMDB.com listing.

mmm... I think that this can only work as a cartoon of some sort. Having Characters being portrayed in movies kind-of adds to their iconic image, people start to picture Toby McGuire as the face of spider-man for example! Seeing all new actors playing roles of Superman and Batman may be odd because their movies have just released..

But I never really believed this would work out in the first place, there are too many characters for this to work as a movie.
