Moonlight Island: A thick, heavy fog surrounds it. Ships that pass through them, more often then not, are never seen or heard from again. Anyone passing by the island only notice the fog and generally steer clear of it. A cargo ship sailing from port to port passes by the fog as the captain looks at his crew-mates worriedly. This fog hadn't been noticed before, and the captain had sailed this route for many years now. Just looking at the dense fog makes him weary of it.
"Hey er...Captain? Was that there before?" One of the crewmen had noticed the thick fog too, and was worried. The man had been working with the captain for two years now. And nothing ever got past his keen eyes. Knowing it was his duty to keep everyone remaining calm, the captain turns and tries to put on his best reassuring smile.
"No. But I don't think there's anything to worry about. It's just fog, and there's no icebergs here in these waters. Besides, it's the middle of summer! Relax." The captain would smile genuinely as it seemed to work, putting the crewmen at ease once more. Then turning back to peer out at the fog again, the captain once more felt an unease creep straight back in. Something seemed off about it. The fog looked like it could crush anyone that got too close. Holding back a shudder he takes in a deep breath and exhales it as quietly as possible. Deliberately he nudges the ship's course to move around it ever so slightly, just to be on the safe side. Never in his 36 years of commanding a cargo ship had he come across this...what was the word he looked for? Evil? He shook his head. No, that wasn't the word he searched for, until it hit him. The word was thing. Yes! That was it. He had never come across this thing before in all his years sailing this exact route. Never. And he wondered why it had appeared out of the blue. As the ship continued on her journey, a few trainers who had gotten onto the ship were wandering around. There were about six of them. Mostly traveling trainers on their way to Cyllage City. Others just going where ever the wind took them. Above the cargo ship was a veteran trainer who had retired from the all the action. Now she and her Pidgeot flew around the world, cruising along at their own pace. Sometimes giving helpful tips to new trainers in the hopes they would grow up to be stronger and more mature then when they begun. Silvia was her name. She too had spotted the fog.
"Hey Pidgeot? What do ya make of that hunk 'o cloud?" Silvia asked her companion in a southern accent. Her companion replied uneasily and Silvia nodded, understanding it perfectly.
"I hear ya. I dun like it none either. I hope this capt'n stays clear of it too." The Pidgeot seemed to tip it's altitude slightly away from the massive fog. Despite being so high up over the cargo ship, this fog was huge. And it looked like it could go on for miles even. Silvia wondered out loud how the weather casters could have missed something like this. Silvia's first thought was a lightening storm, but as she had observed it, the characteristics were that of a fog. Shaking her head, she too slightly tipped to the side as her companion moved away a little bit more. Meanwhile on the ship: two of the younger trainers had been walking from end to end of the ship conversing while their pokemon played hide and seek. They did not notice the heavy fog. But their pokemon did as they stopped playing the game and stared at it. After stopping in for lunch, the two youngsters also stopped to stare first at their pokemon, then at the fog. It puzzled the trainers as they recalled their pokemon to go get something to eat, not worried about anything. Three other trainers had gone into the break room to also get some lunch as they greeted the first two trainers. The five of them were roughly about the same age, give or take a year or two. The rest were older, and scattered throughout the ship, not including the veteran who was flying over the ship on her Pidgeot.
As the ship's captain steers the cargo ship a little further around the fog, time seemed to slow down. Or at least that's how it felt for the crew. About fifteen and a half hours later the cargo ship docks in Cyllage City finally. Relieved, the captain goes about his duties as normal, the trainers get off the ship to go their separate ways, except two youngsters who had become friends during their time on the ship. They head off towards Amberette Town to go explore the Aquarium. An old man about 6 foot 4 inches tall walks silently past Silvia as she had her companion land to rest up. As they walk past each other, they stop, look at the other's eyes. The man's eyes seemed weary, cautious, and it was a little bit unnerving. Silvia noticed the man was covered in deep scars. Years old gashes seemed to carve all over this man. He stared a few seconds more before tearing his gaze from the veteran and walking away just as silently. She hadn't noticed, but an huge Arcanine was walking beside him, it's own eyes reflected that of the man's. And it too, bore deep scars. Shuddering quietly, Silvia could not help but watch as trainer and pokemon went out of sight after turning at a bend in the road. She headed up to the pokemon center for a night's rest.
A little ways down the Cyllage City coast lines, the old man walked to a small hut. Accompanied by his beloved Arcanine. The two sat down in front of the hut to watch the sea. The man watched for signs of the fog from his past, while his Arcanine listened for any sounds that indicated someone or even something approaching them. The evening would turn to night, and the two were still there until the man finally got up to go inside. Following and staying close at all times, his Arcanine would also go inside. Both their dreams were still haunted by the bloodshed and horror of the ordeal.
Morning comes around as the first rays of dawn peek around the horizons. The captain gathers his trusty crewmen and set sail to go the same way they had came. Another delivery to make. The man from the hut had come outside, and watched as the cargo ship left the port of Cyllage City. His Arcanine too, watched. As the ship sailed further and further, the captain wondered about that fog he had seen yesterday. After awhile though, he shrugged it off and kept steering the ship. There were a few new trainers on board, one happened to be related to Silvia, whom had set off earlier that morning headed further east to speak with Wulric. Two days would pass as a holo-caster announcement would be made worldwide. It was mid-day when news casters announced the disappearance of a cargo ship.... Silvia came back, and began asking around. She too was worried. There were other trainers on that ship, plus 80 crewmen, and the captain. The whole ship was missing, and now there's an uproar in Cyllage City, and the rest of Kalos. Anyone that came into the city would notice the locals talking to police, sharing every bit of details they could give. Meanwhile Cojins was with Grant talking about what might have happened. The old man planned to ask around for groups of pokemon trainers that could assist in a rescue attempt. Grant would be staying behind in case there were other trainers came by later. The gym leader would point them in the direction Cojins would be headed for. But for now, Cojins and his Arcanine began to round up pokemon trainers, asking them for assistance for a dangerous rescue mission.
