Kansas Bans Pokemon In School...

Did I just walk into a time warp or something? I could almost swear it was 7 years ago here.

rampant homosexuality amongst dinosaurs is what led to their fiery destruction at the hand of God.

Ahh that's a knee slapper!

(Has anybody googled "Pokémon dangers"? I do that when I'm feeling low and reading these absurdities makes me laugh like nothing else.)

Why don't we revive the Jynx race debate while we're at it? I'll even recolor my Jynx evo into blackface for it :D

I swear the religious reich are just making up stuff as they go, in order to just hate something. it seems like evey time they get bored something like this happens, if they can't hate other races they hate homosexuals, if they can't hate homosexuals they hate evolution. soon it's gonna be if you like pepsi over coke you're in league with the devil or maybe rock will be the devils music again for old times sake lol.

I *would* think this was a late prank but for the fact that so many places *did* this. But really now, get with the times. Pokemon hasn't been the Big Evil for *years*.

And does the word "fiction" mean NOTHING to these people?

I feel so sorry for those children. Adults ruin a lot of things for kids, and this is no exception....

It is a joke article. I wish that the ability to recognize such an absurd as a prank would be more widespread than the ability to detect, say, fake game artwork.

I think it has to do with the fact that the idea would be believable because there exist some groups irrational enough to cause such crazy controversy over creationism theory, but Pokemon isn't in the limelight enough to spark this kind of attention now. It is funny though...

Or there's the fact that Kansas DID try to get intelligent design taught in schools and certain groups DID burn Pokemon games about a decade ago (I think they even did the trade-in-for-Bible thing). The article's like saying there's a war in some African nation. It's too believable to be a good joke.

Yep, it's an April Fools joke. That article is like something right out of 1999--so, other than being several years late, it was entirely believable. I think it would've been a better joke if they'd exaggerated it a little more...

I think I actually came up with a scenario about that back when there was a thread about Jack Thompson getting mad over Sims 2 mods. Somewhere in the archives, I think.

The sad thing is, I didn't stop believing that article until after it said the reason was because the games "support evolution". Yeah, as it turns out, that was actually one of the main arguments given against pokemon back in '99.

I can see the joke was supposed to be a pun on the word "evolution" since pokemon evolution has nothing to do Darwin's theory, the problem is that because there are so many people out there that don't realize that, the article was actually believable. Besides, it's a little late for it to be an April Fool's prank.
