I know what you thinking: But Sean, this is the Hoenn region. Why would they replace the Hoenn Leaders with Kanto Leaders? Relax. I didn't say anything yet. And I certainly did not say going to replace the Hoenn Leaders. The Hoenn Leaders will stay as they are. We still have Roxanne at the Rustboro Gym. However, what if to reference FireRed and LeafGreen, the Gym Leaders from those games can appear. But where will they be? I don't think Kanto would be accessable. But I do think they can have the Sevii Islands. Seven Island has the Trainer Tower. At the Tower, there are five modes. Single, Double, Knockout, Mixed, and Leader. Leader mode will have you face the eight Kanto Gym Leaders. Here they are:
  • 1F Brock
  • 2F Misty
  • 3F Lt. Surge
  • 4F Erika
  • 5F Koga
  • 6F Sabrina
  • 7F Blaine
  • 8F Blue

And where's Giovanni? He's training in Altering Cave. If you defeat him there, he moves on to Tohjo Falls. After beating all of the Kanto Leaders, you will recieve a Ribbon and your best time will be recorded. The next day, you'll get a call from Roxanne stating that her friend Brock has paid her a visit and wants you to challenge them both to a Double Battle. You head to Rustboro City and enter the Gym. There, you will find Brock standing next to Roxanne. They then challenge you to a Double Battle. Roxanne uses a Nosepass and Armaldo while Brock has an Onix and Kabutops. After winning the battle, you can call the Hoenn gym leaders on certain days to have Double Battles with Kanto Leaders.

  • Monday - Rustboro Gym - Roxanne (Nosepass and Armaldo) and Brock (Onix and Kabutops)
  • Tuesday - Mauville Gym - Wattson (Plusle and Minun) and Lt. Surge (Raichu and Electabuzz)
  • Wednesday - Lavaridge Gym - Flannery (Camerupt and Torkoal) and Blaine (Magmar and Rapidash)
  • Thursday - Mossdeep Gym - Tate (Solrock and Claydol), Liza (Lunatone and Chimecho) and Sabrina (Alakazam and Mr. Mime)
  • Friday - Sootopolis Gym - Juan (Milotic and Wailord) and Misty (Starmie and Seel)

Brawly, Norman and Winona do not get Kanto partners and Erika, Koga and Blue don't leave the Trainer Tower. When a Kanto Leader is at a Gym, the Leader Mode at the Trainer Tower will be closed. And when Sabrina is at Mossdeep Gym, you get a Triple Battle. And when you have a rematch with a Hoenn Leader solo, you get a Single Battle instead of a Double.

The music that plays in these battles. At Trainer Tower, it's a remix of the FireRed/LeafGreen Gym Leader theme. In a double battle, it's a remix of the HeartGold/SoulSilver Kanto Leader theme. Solo matches with Hoenn Leaders have the same music as the first battle for the badge, that is, a remix of the Ruby/Sapphire Leader Theme.

So, what do you think of this idea?

Doubtful. Barring the return of the PWT, I really don't think the Kanto leaders will be making an appearance. Game Freak's not that creative with its remakes.

I'd only want the leaders to return if it were something like the Fighting Dojo. I didn't really enjoy the PWT much so I hope something like that never returns.

A few could make cameos but they probably wont be battleable

also, gen 3 = gen 1, so they'll be the gen 1 leader line up and Blue wouldn't be the Gym Leader unless like, Red instantly resigned as soon as he won the league or something and Blue isnatnly became Gym leader coz they're at the same time RBYFRLGRSE

Govanni won't have lost to Ethan/Lyra yet either

It's pretty obvious (particularly in FRLG) that Red never replaced Blue as the active Champion. He won and entered the Hall of Fame, but he continued his journey. Presumably, that is what all player characters do, just like the players themselves.

If ORAS' post-game segment is set a few months after the end of FRLG, then it's possible that Lance has already replaced Blue.

But you underestimate how much Game Freak loves Kanto. And its not that creative to have a facility where you battle gym leaders.

@SeanWheeler;
Considering Giovanni basically gave up after being beaten by Ethan/Lyra, I doubt he'd have been fine if he was beaten by May/Brendan.

You do realize Giovanni was replaced with Blue. And this is three years before Ethan and Lyra start their HeartGold and SoulSilver adventure, so they haven't beaten Giovanni yet. It's been a month since Red beat Giovanni. In HeartGold/SoulSilver, it turns out that Giovanni has been training to revive Team Rocket. In this OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire fanon, Giovanni trains in Altering Cave before he heads to Tohjo Falls. At the Trainer Tower, it's Blue representing the Viridian Gym. And Blue has his awesome theme as the final opponent of the Trainer Tower, a remix of his Champion Theme, while all the other leaders have the FireRed/LeafGreen Gym Leader theme. Giovanni isn't here as a Gym Leader but just as a retired boss of Team Rocket.

Its more believable that time just stops after the PC enters the Hall of Fame.

that would make everything after gen 1 non canon

I would not really like this idea. I would rather see cameos from Gym Leaders from Sinnoh over Kanto if we had to have some. We've had enough Kanto through the years and I don't see the point of including them for any reason, unless they do another PWT, thing, which I doubt. Sans the PWT (which is probably non-canon), they've done pretty good for the past two generations of not including any Kanto cameos and sticking to references, so I'm hoping these remakes will get the same treatment and keep most of the focus on an updated Hoenn.

The canonicity of the PWT is definitely a bit iffy. As far as it is known, Blue is the current Gym Leader of Viridian City yet Giovanni appears as Gym Leader in the tournament. I suppose it's possible he decided he want to be Gym Leader again but that's kinda silly. While Blue has held the title of Champion, it was very brief. Then there's the whole Steven/Wallace thing. With OR/AS coming out, that whole debacle of who was Champion could be explained. If Wallace in OR/AS is Champion or is stated to have been Champion of Hoenn at some point then the issue is resolved. Since Steven was Champion by HGSS then one just assumes either Wallace stepped down and appointed Steven, or Steven came in and kicked everyone's butt. If he's just the Gym Leader of Sootopolis then yeah the PWT is definitely not canon.

I should've said the timeline for that particular game.

And that's really nothing compared to the fact Unova Leaders includes retired Leaders like Lenora and the Striaton trio, and even frigging Bianca, who has never even been a Gym Leader or in any position as a strong Trainer at all. If anything, the groups are generational (Which also has discrepancies, such as Janine instead of Koga), and Champions are acknowledged as current or former Champions (Hence Red and Blue being Champions), so maybe it's something about how the PWT classifies the groups (Accepts Trainers who currently hold the position or held it at a point in time) as opposed to formally establishing Trainer X is Y. As such, it could still be Canon regardless of any implications. It was meant to be a feature to let you battle legacy Trainers to begin with anyway, and as most of those are indeed post-game only tourneys, its "canon-ness" is dubious and depends on the individual.

Now back on topic... I don't want to see Kanto Gym Leaders physically in ORAS. I rather they focus in the Hoenn Leaders fully and any other are only referenced. Maybe a couple can make a cameo, but none should be available to be battled. Hoenn characters need their time in the limelight,

No thanks.

Game Freak loves them some nostalgic pandering, but I don't. :dead:

Generation 1 does NOT represent the zenith of Pokémon. In fact, it's almost the opposite, IMHO. It certainly shouldn't constantly overshadow its predecessors (they're living in its shadow enough as it is!)

Oh, I can see Kanto GLs somehow popping up (mainly postgame or some kind of online event). But that doesn't mean they should.

Well, the reason I chose Kanto over the other regions is because of FireRed and LeafGreen, the Gen III games that took place in Kanto. FireRed and LeafGreen was in the same generation as Ruby and Sapphire, so I thought maybe they could incorporate stuff from those two games in the Hoenn remakes since they are so closely related. HeartGold and SoulSilver had Crystal stuff. So Kanto is in every generation? Well, good thing I like Kanto. Having the Kanto Leaders along with the Sevii Islands is a good celebration celebration of FireRed and LeafGreen.

Brock and Roxanne battling together? Lt. Surge and Wattson? And the first triple battle with three trainers at Mossdeep Gym? How cool would that be?

We've had enough Kanto mentions already as it is. While I really don't want anything or anyone appearing that points to Kanto, if the gym leaders are restricted to, say, appreciating art in the Lilycove Art Museum and do absolutely nothing else, (no battles, no item giving, no mini side-quests, maybe just a few mentions on the region only through dialogues), then I'm fine with them appearing as minor NPCs with little to no roles. This is HOENN, so the focus should be mainly, if not only, on Hoenn and the inhabitants of Hoenn.

The only person from Kanto I'd see appearing is Prof. Oak for the Pokedex and stuff. The gym leaders? Not really.
