Hey.

I wanted to make a thread for Kanye fans in anticipation this latest album, SWISH, with an unconfirmed released date. This thread will cover his entire career, not just his latest work.

So what do you guys like from him?

He really didn't hit the mark until after 808s & Heartbreak, but he's put out some absolute gems.
As a whole, he's a stellar example of wisdom versus intelligence. Sure, there's a lot of people who could have come up with the same lines he has, but they're way too easy to talk out of them--it's that which keeps them from getting on West's level.

I generally agree with this. I think his first three albums are merely good, you could take the best tracks from those three and make a pretty cool album. From 808s onwards I really love him because he's pushing the boundaries of hip-hop, of top 40 music, of the music that defines both him and this generation. 808s can be pretty much heard in every pop-rapper since, especially Drake. MBDTF, whilst not my pick for 2010, is a fantastic piece of work (especially when you lob off the crap bits :p), and Yeezus, which I initially hated, has quickly grown to be a favourite. I think if he's lucky, Kanye will be recognised as important to music as James Brown, Miles Davis, Lennon-McCartney or Elvis. He's got it in him to really become a legend.

He's changed so much since he first came into the scene, which isn't always necessarily a bad thing. I dug MBDTF as much as I loved College Dropout.

Yeezus was terrible, though. I lost interest after that and Watch the Throne.

I wouldn't go that far--those are among the most influential names in music period. West's awesome, yeah, but those guys are why music as we know it is.

Totally understandable. I thought Yeezus was so awful when I heard it, took me two years to even warm up to it. I say give it a go expecting it to be awful, as I did, and you might come away with enjoying it a bit more. I think many people's backlash come from it being worse than MBDTF and a rather uneasy listen at times i.e the autotune, Send it Up, Kanye's panic screams.

Sure, but that's after the fact. No one was claiming that The Beatles were so important to music half way into their career. I believe Kanye is yet to release his real masterpiece, something that could topple MBDTF. I hope he has it in him. To get into the top ranks of music, Kanye needs to release an album that inspires countless musicians and changes the musical landscape.
