Is anyone sick of hearing people talk about how Katie Couric taking over CBS Evening News come fall is going to destroy the integrity of the evening news as we know it? Granted, she's no Dan Rather, but I can point to where all this criticism is coming from: sexism. I know that sounds, well, paranoid, but serioulsy, if Matt Lauer were to be the one leaving Today and anchoring CBS, would people be criticizing him? What really gets to me is how everyone's pointing out how perky she is... big deal, she can also do serious news very professionally, and I think that the word "perky" is just being used to make the criticism seem less sexist. Really, am I the only one who sees the blatant prejudice here?

(Just to set the record straight, I'm not a Katie Couric fangirl or anything... I just really have a low tolerance whenever someone assumes a woman can't do as good a job as a man. At anything.)

My mom nicknamed her "Perky Couric" so it's not sexism. It's because she's...well..hard to take seriously. She dresses like she's half her real age and acts like a ditz. They're are many anchormen and anchorwomen who are more qualified. It's not sexism, it's because of who she is.

Agreed, it's not sexism. There are plenty of women who can do the job (I watch Elizabeth Vargas on ABC with no problem).

Her problem is that it's just extremely hard for a lot of people to take her seriously, especially after all these years on Today, which is just a bunch of fluff to begin with.

Her voice simply makes her hard to take seriously. She has one of those always perky, happy voices. I can't imagine Couric trying to say something like "48 people died in Iraq when terrorists bombed a restaurant" with that voice.

I've done lots of reading about news media, and television news, for the most part, is garbage.

In any case, I have never seen Katie Couric as a serious journalist, especially after seeing her parade around with celebrities and other junk "news" on Today.

I'd watch it in a heartbeat if Christiane Amanpour were hired as the evening news anchor. I trust her journalistic integrity far more than I do Katie Couric's.

Or better yet Rhandi Rhodes from Air America (the most journalistic personality on the whole station). Watch Fox News shit themselves as she brings real news to the forefront.

Randi Rhodes is too openly biased to be in anything but a commentator role.
