I´d count Kenny as a secondary rival, because of his appearance in the second ending or his cameos
in the wallace cup

About Nando...I´m not sure. He didn´t get a cameo or even a appearance since his contest win agains Zoey.
 
Kenny is in the new ending theme right next to Zoey, and he also got a cameo in the Wallace Cup, so its obvious he's sticking around.

Nando isn't in the new ending, nor did we get a cameo of him in the Wallace Cup. A lot of people think he's going to be the "Robert" of Sinnoh, so he may not even appear again until the Grand Festival.
 
86 (counting the 4 unaired ones) episodes in and Nando's had all of 3 appearances. Kenny's had like 4 and a spot in the ending, Zoey's had close to 10. I want to see Nando come back, but it seems the writers don't have a place for him right now.
 
If I had to pick between Kenny and Nando, I'd go for Kenny. Nando was supposed to be out of place. What else can he do? Look at him and Harley, was Harley out of place? Not to me because everytime he showed up, the episode was kickass (and I'm talking some late AG episodes). Nando is either where the twerps are, coincidentally or he's not. Now I wish he was in the Wallace Cup, including Kenny. I wanted to see what they can all do. Their first encounter back at Hearthome didn't show much. Except Zoey is a lesbian. But anyway...

Because Kenny is a kid, you can see character development in him. It's an okay start. Nando is just dull.
 
Don't you know everyone hates Nando? Shame on you. He's dull and boring and infringed on Col. Sanders's fried chicken turf.

I hated Kenny until his second appearance, as his first made him out to be just another Kayzie-voiced filler boy. I am worried about the potential of a Piplup vs. Empoleon situation, though.
 
Kenny will definitely return. I hope Nando does but I'm not sure sure he will until the GF...
 
you know, it's stuff like this which just makes me sit here and wonder: WHEN'S THERE GONNA BE A FUCKING OPENING UPDATE!?!?! [cough] Seriously, aside from the fact that Together needs to get the hell out of here bad (but it looks like we're stuck with this new version for possibly the next year T_T... they could at least give us an animation change), if Naoshi would just appear in a new opening, that would most definitely resolve the matter on whether he's a recurring character or not (heh... I sure was happy when the opening "Battle Frontier" officially confirmed Harley's place as a regular ^^... BTW, anyone else expecting Hunter J whenever they finally do update the opening?).
 
Let's not forget that whole Pikari/Dee Dee thing.

Heck it's not only that, but sooner or later I see there being a childhood flashback of Dawn and Kenny. If Dawn got one with Yumomi - who could be considered the less important childhood friend - then why can't she got one with Kenny? I mean I doubt they'll just give Dawn a childhood friend just for the sake of it, there has to be something the writers have planned out for Kenny (and not just the meaning of Pikari/Dee) but it seems that they are taking their time with it, in other words they're building Kenny's character very slowly. Maybe that's why Kenny has so far only appeared in four episodes and got a few cameos, the writers just don't want to rush straight into his character's development.

And besides, Kenny might be the only character who is able to showcase Empoleon in the anime assuming if Dawn's Piplup might not ever evolve due to all the screen time it's getting. And no, I don't count a filler episode appearance - if it does happen - talking about a recurring one here. Yes I know that has nothing to do with anything said here.... I just felt like pointing it out.
 
If Dawn's next evolution isn't Piplup, then it's safe to say it won't be evolving. Unless her next capture after Swinub will be a bug.
 
Just wait till we get Piplup Vs. Empolean in the Grand Festival, with Dawn winning. :p
 
Im hoping we see a little more of Kenny. I actually like him as a character. at first i thought he would be another Drew, but as far as i can tell with his 4 real appearances, thats clearly not the case. his whole childhood with Dawn makes him interesting to me, but the writers arent really showcasing him at all. I'd like to see them meet somewhere besides a contest. that could get interesting.

does anyone know why he went into contests anyway? was it for Dawn?

about Nando, I really dont like him. hes dull and IMO, kinda ugly. but oh well. luckly he hasnt shown his face much either. he'll probably show up in the GF and Sinnoh League. Great.
 
No, trainers don't become coordinators just because they have a crush on someone. It didn't seem to Kenny when we first saw him that he really started contesting because of Dawn. He was actually surprised to see her there, especially after such a long time.

No one can match Drew, or Harley, or any of the great Hoenn contest rivals. Each had their own skills fighting against the other. We may see to that by the end of this region, who knows...

so true, no one compares to Drew and Harley. I love Gary, but even he wasnt as fun to watch as they were.
