That's about one-tenth of the Japanese I remember from my class. Well, I never claimed to have foreign language skills.
SO. I'm an older fan. How old? Old enough to know not to answer that. To those who snipe, I say what's the point of growing up if you can't be immature? To those who get it, I don't have to say anything.
Truth is, I watch what I want. Maybe I'll go from Pokemon to No Reservations to a Broadway Musical to Ghost Hunters to Magnificent Seven- although that would be one very long night of TV watching. But my tastes are eclectic, and I don't see why I should avoid something I find interesting just because somebody thinks I shouldn't. Besides, considering some of the lines in this show, there is NO WAY that the translators aren't thinking of older viewers on occasion.
About me personally- I'm a college student, majoring in History and minoring in Theater. I am a sucker for good music, and am partial to Great Big Sea, Gilbert & Sullivan, Stephen Sondheim, Solas, Melissa Etheridge, Shriekback, James Keelaghan, Mozart, and I could go on forever listing artists I like. I read a lot, although right now it's mostly textbooks. When I can read for fun, my reading tastes are as varied as my TV and music tastes. Let me put it this way- I have Janet Evanovich, Barbara Cartland, Robert Parker, and Terry Pratchett on my shelves, and that's just a tiny fraction of the fiction. (Yes, I read Barbara Cartland. She makes me laugh. And while she may be fluffy, you can't fault her history.)
I live in Maine, and am proud of it. I write fanfiction as well as fiction for publication, and enjoy both equally. (No, I haven't been published yet, but I am waiting on a contract.) I even wrote a term paper on fanfiction that would have been an A if I'd used the proper citation style. (Learn how to cite properly; it's amazingly anal-retentive at times, but if you attend college you WILL get hammered by it.) My posted fic has been for Batman Beyond, but I am working on some Pokemon stories. I've got a stand-alone that may or may not develop into a sequel, a series, and a one-shot that is pure snarkiness on my part: one too many self-insertion stories crossed my path, and I swear I heard my mind snap. I'd be quite ashamed of myself for writing it, but I'm too busy snickering. I do use OCs, because writing a story with only established characters tends to be stifling, and the shows I write in have one-shot or recurring characters all the time, so I don't see why fanfiction can't do the same. I am NOT one of those who believes that all OCs are Mary Sues, and I point and laugh at those who do.
To amke a long story short (too late), I'm a fan. I have enjoyed every incarnation, although I do admit May and Max really tested my patience. Still, I plan on continuing to watch for as long as the show continues.
