Given that we have the new Professors' name, what do you think is his area of specialization regarding Pokemon?

Do you think he will perhaps share an aspect with previous professors, such as Elm's Pokemon breeding patterns or Birch & Pokemon habitat? Anything you would like to see? Or just in general, any thoughts regarding Professor Hala?
 
I think that Professor Hala's research will be linked to whatever new mechanic appears in the games, if there is one. Sycamore's area of speciality was mega evolution, after all. If there isn't, then I think it will be more of a background subject, like Rowan studying evolution, or Birch studying Pokemon habitats.
 
New mechanic like ^ said or nocturnal and diurnal Pokemon. We may see the return of day and night cycles like with Sinnoh where different Pokemon appear at different times. I hope different trainers and such come out at different times like the policemen did in Sinnoh.
 
EDIT: Translations of the Japanese trailers with the professor speaking state he is doing research on pokemon's moves and is willing to endure injury if he can learn something from it. So it is not related to the new mechanic, which is a relief. However, it is confusing, why research pokemon moves?

The Professor's research will most likely be something related to a new mechanic in the games, which will likely be related to the time of day.
 
Turns out the Professor was Kukui all along, and his area of study was indeed Pokemon moves.

There are two questions here:

1 - Hala, the older man who presents you with the starter Pokemon. Who is he, and what role does he play in Sun/Moon? He is supposedly related to Hau, your friendly rival in Alola.

2 - Will Kukui have an active interest in any new mechanic introduced in Sun/Moon, like Sycamore was in X/Y? Or will that be on Hala? Or possibly Lillie?
 
Honestly, it would not surprise me if Hala turned out to be a pokemon caretaker or even the head of the local pokemon school.
 
He could be researching a new mechanic, pokemon moves or something else entirely. Perhaps research on Solgaleo/Lunala depending on your version?
 
Thread should be changed to Professor Kukui's Research.

Anyway, I have a feeling there's some new mechanic relating to moves in the game that Professor Kukui is researching. Not exactly sure what though.
