Labels for anime characters?

If you watch anime then you know there is a vast amount character personalities that you must deal with. I just wanted to know if they actually have labels that define them as a generic character.

For example...

Moody guy with tragic past

Energetic girl that always converts to chibi form in funny situations

Guy with the bowl haircut but is really strong

sorry if these are not good enough examples, im just curious because a girl called me a japanese name, and when I asked what it meant they told me it was word used as a label for a character in anime that is really serious and does not feel emotion.
