Lack of new evolutions and pre-evolutions - a theory

Notice how there hasn't been a single evolution or pre-evolution for a existing Pokemon introduced in Generation V so far? And that Generation IV was practically crawling with them? This is just a theory of mine, but I think that in Gen IV, Nintendo took the oppurtunity to introduce all the evos and pre-evos that they ahd been planning to add to the series, so that in Gen V they could make a fresh start with a collection of brand-new Pokemon.

If Generation IV marks the end of giving Pokémon new evolutions, then it didn't do a good job at it. There are plenty of Pokémon that were more deserving of evolutions than Electabuzz, Magmar, Rhydon, Porygon2 and Dusclops were, and that's not mentioning Eevee, Kirlia or Snorunt that could have done without alternate evolutions. At some point there will be more evolutions, be it Black and White or afterwards.

They might pull a D/P and only have the evolutions post national dex (with the pokémons officially not available in Isshu because it's so far away and all).

maybe there aren't prevo's and evo's because ishu is really far away so those pokémons can not come to this region, so that prevo's and evo's would not show up.

I agree this is my theory as well.

I would find it hard to believe that there would be nothing of interest that would evolve the current 1-4 gen Pokemon into something brand new that would be "exclusive" to "Isshu." I mean we have Eevee evolving at specific locations in Sinnoh. So is the Isshu region so boring in terms of it's environment, that the current Pokemon don't adapt differently and thus evolve into new species?

RSE only had two pre-evolutions. There probably won't be much more this generation.

At least both were revealed very quickly. We haven't had any pokémon related to anothe yet this gen.

I don't mean Gen IV is the last ever Generation to have evos and pre-evos, just that Gen V is going to give it a break for a while. Gen VI could well introduce evolutions for Isshu Pokemon as well as some of the older Pokemon. I think Nintendo/Game Freak are trying to make Black and White feel like a "fresh start" by having mostly completely original Pokemon and not many Pokemon from other regions (though I'm guessing Pikachu will be available).

Maybe they just didn't want to make any prevos or evos.

Yep, I agree with that. They probably ask themselves "what would be cool", and then go off to make it.

But this thread's theory is interesting nonetheless. If we're trying to be philosophical here, then may I add to it?

There's always the risk of running out of Pokemon to evolve. We once had a huge supply of single stage Pokemon to work with. Now the majority of them were given evolutions or pre-evos. Sometimes you need to let the soil replenish itself, especially after a hefty crop from your last harvest (in this case, Gen IV). I suspect we'll return to form in Generation V with a much larger supply of single stage Pokemon (larger than what we previous received [5 total] at any rate). Hoenn holds the record right now, most likely due to how they were the closest generation to Gen IV and thus weren't widely considered to be candidates. You could also chalk that up to their unique pairs of Pokemon.

Gen IV - 5
Gen III - 18
Gen II - 12
Gen I - 7

I don't know if we'll actually get above 18 Pokemon, but then again we could see the greatest number of Pokemon yet since Generation 1 if they're serious about repopulating the new region.

I didn't follow updates for gen IV the way I have for gen V so I have to ask, did they show new evolutions for old pokemon months beforehand? If they didn't then it wouldn't mean anything that they haven't shown any yet. If they did then it still doesn't necessarily mean they're not going to be there, just that they haven't shown us any yet if they have.

Isn't there talk of a new eeveelution at this point? As in, there actually being one? Or is that just a rumor?

We knew about Weavile, Electivire, and Roserade only if I recall correctly, Weavile from Movie 8 and the other two from the September 2006 CoroCoro. Everyone else was kept secret, although many guessed Aipom would evolve due to Ash getting one randomly at the tail-end of Battle Frontier.

I believe CoroCoro mentioned there would be many new evolutions though.

Maybe the Pre-/Evolutions just aren't that marketable, hence why they haven't been shown yet?

I dunno: Munchlax and Azurill were some of the first know of the the 4th and 3rd gens, respectively. I think that there will be very few new pr/evos, maybe, even, none.

In my opinion, Game Freak is making a pattern of sort with these new evolutions and pre-evolutions. Every even numbered generation reveals a butt load of new Evolutions and babies, while odd numbered generations (Barring Gen I for obvious reasons) will try to keep new evolutions to a minimum. For example, Generation III introduced only two Baby Pokemon (Wynaut and Azurill), and so far we haven't seen a single hint for a baby or evolution in Gen V.

You know, it could be that their placing this in a region far, far away, but why go with the simple explanation >_>

Though I think the only reason Gen IV overdid it was because they underdid it in Gen III., and were probably responding to fans feeling that RS were so disconnected from past games and overcompensated. Really, the evolution thing only added to Rowan's research which was mentioned like one time.

I'd be OK with that we NEED more variety.I can't even play conpetively without finding
someone with the same Pokemon.
