I can think of a way for this one to become canon, as well as tie things up for one of the human characters. When Brock finally stops travelling w/Ash, Pikachu and Buneary decide to stay under the former's care to start a family. IMO, this would a really nice way to change things up. Pikachu has truly become iconic, but given enough time, all things the least bit possible will occur. What say you?
