I should warn you that this fic is rated PG-13 for violence and swearing.

Leave reviews, suggestions, flames, whatever. And yes, I do read reviews and suggestions.

Without further ado, I, Draconium present Land Before Time: Twilight Valley.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1: The Dream

Littlefoot was running. Running through harsh and forbidding rocky terrain, chased by a sharptooth. But this was unlike any sharptooth he had seen; black as midnight with two weird projections from its arms and its eyes burning with an otherworldly white glow.

Just as Littlefoot turned a corner, he found himself faced with a dead end and the demonic sharptooth approaching.

“AGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!” he shouted, waking himself up. He looked around, he was in his nest and it was still dark with the Night Circle high up, bathing the Great Valley in a cool white light.

As Littlefoot went back to sleep, he somehow missed a shadowy figure scurrying along the top of the Great Rock Wall and the twin streaks of blue light passing overhead.

On a tropical island out on the Big Water, far from the Great Valley a young sharptooth woke up with a start from the same terrifying dream. He turned his gaze towards the Great Valley and saw an aquatic longneck named Elsie also looking in the same direction.

When Littlefoot awoke for the second time, he saw Petrie standing in front of him.

“What?” he said, groggily.

“Littlefoot, wake up!!” Petrie said.

“What’s so important?” Littlefoot said, getting up.

“Me no know. But Cera say grownups by Two Boulder Pass.”

Littlefoot hurried to Two Boulder Pass and managed to squeeze through the adults to get a look at what was so fascinating.

“It can’t be.” Littlefoot said, astonished at the sight.

“It real.” Petrie said, with equal astonishment.

Chapter 2

Chapter 2: The Stone of Cold Fire

Littlefoot was looking down into an impact crater along with several adults. At the center of the crater was a medium sized meteorite. But this was no ordinary meteorite.

Littlefoot had seen meteorites before, but this was unlike any meteorite he had seen before. It was a shade of icy blue, with a reflective surface like that of water on a still day.

“I…I think that’s the Stone of Cold Fire.” Littlefoot said,

“Not that Stone of Cold Fire junk again!” Cera said, rolling her eyes.

“The Stone of Cold Fire is just a story. Yep, yep, yep.” Ducky said, nodding her head.

“What’s all the fuss about?” Mr. Threehorn said, striding up to the group.

“Well, Mr. Threehorn, a rather odd sky-rock has landed and it looks just like the mythical Stone of Cold Fire.” Grandpa Longneck said.

“It’s just an…” Mr. Threehorn began before he was cut off by a lightning bolt, striking a few feet away from him.

More lightning bolts began to fly from the meteorite, striking the ground and nearby rocks.

“Scatter!!” Grandpa Longneck shouted

The Great Valley dinosaurs ran in different directions, some taking cover behind rocks, others running as far as possible

“Woah.” said Hyp, crouched behind a large boulder with Petrie and Littlefoot.

“Me scared.” Petrie said, trembling.

Suddenly the sound of the lightning bolts bombarding the vicinity stopped.

“Is it over?” Littlefoot asked.

“It’s over.” Hyp said, peeking over the boulder.

Littlefoot stuck his head over the boulder and looked. What he saw astonished him.

The ground and the rocks were scorched and pockmarked by the maelstrom of lightning bolts, but he could see the scorch marks and craters starting to disappear. In a few moments the area around Two Boulder Pass looked like nothing had ever happened.

“Ok, so that sky-rock really IS the Stone of Cold Fire.” Cera said.

“Littlefoot!!!” Grandpa Longneck called

“Coming, Grandpa!” Littlefoot replied, running off to his nest.

“Littlefoot, you must stay away from Two Boulder Pass. That sky-rock is simply too dangerous.” Grandpa Longneck said

“But Grandpa...” Littlefoot began to protest

“Littlefoot, we know you are curious, but until we find out more about that sky-rock; we can’t let you go near Two Boulder Pass.” Grandma Longneck said

“Can I go play?” Littlefoot asked, changing the subject.

“Yes. But remember what we told you.” Grandpa Longneck said

“I know. Stay away from Two Boulder Pass.” Littlefoot echoed.

Littlefoot ran to meet his friends. When he arrived he saw his friends playing “Catch the Hopper”.

“What take so long?” Petrie asked, as he tried to catch Ducky.

“Grandpa told me to stay away from Two Boulder Pass.” Littlefoot replied

Littlefoot joined in the game and just as the game was wrapping up, he turned around and saw 3 familiar faces.

Chapter 3: Surprise Visitors

“Chomper?” Littlefoot said, surprised by his friend’s sudden appearance.

“What Chomper doing here?” Petrie said.

“Some strange sleep-story occurred and there was something about coming to the Great Valley.” Chomper said.

“You mean that sleep-story about being chased by a sharptooth? I had that too.” Littlefoot said.

“How could we have the same sleep-story?” Littlefoot said, pawing the ground in frustration.

“I don’t know, but it must mean something.” Chomper said.

“How Chomper get to Great Valley?” Petrie said, half to himself.

“Easy Petrie. I just crossed the landbridge.” Chomper replied.

“But the landbridge was sunk by an earthshake” Littlefoot said.

“Actually it is covered and uncovered by the… uh what’s that called again?” Chomper said, scratching his head.

His mother said something that Littlefoot could not understand.

“Oh yeah, the bridge is covered and uncovered by the tides.” Chomper said.

“Hey, hatchlings!” Hyp said striding up to the group with Nod and Mutt.

“What do you want Hyp?” Cera said, glaring at him.

Meanwhile in the Mysterious Beyond in a valley similar to the Great Valley…

“Why haven’t those two bumbling flyers come back yet? And I knew those two Egg-Stealers were total idiots! We still don’t have that rock!” a tan and gold two-clawed sharptooth said, angrily.

“Patience.” another sharptooth, red striped, said coolly, “We will have the Stone of Cold Fire soon enough.”

In the farthest reaches of the Great Valley, two Egg-Stealers entered through a narrow break in the Great Rock Wall.

“I’m hungry. Why can’t I eat some of this?” one Egg-Stealer said, lifting a branch laden with berries to its mouth.

“Strut!!!! Drop that branch right now you leaf-licker!!!” the other Egg-Stealer shouted, roughly grabbing the branch from Strut with one of its arms.

“But Ozzie, I’m hungry!!” Strut said.

“If we get that weird blue rock, then we will have all the eggs we can eat!” Ozzie said.

“But I don’t like eggs and what does a weird rock have to do with eggs!” Strut said, reaching out to grab a branch with a few tree-stars on it.

Ozzie saw Strut grab the branch and he roughly swatted the branch away with his arms.

“You mindless brush-bounder!! We were promised all the eggs we can eat if we can get that weird blue rock to that sharptooth! Now let’s go find that weird rock!” Ozzie shouted

The cry rang clear over the Great Valley. “Sharptooth attack! Near the Great Rock Path!!!!!” Grandpa Longneck bellowed.

Within moments all of the children were gathered at their nests and the adults had gone off to defend against the sharpteeth.

“Ducky, Spike, stay here!” Ducky’s mother said as she walked towards the Great Rock Path carrying a heavy branch.

Petrie’s mother had also flown to the Great Rock Path to assist in the battle, mostly serving a support role.

Four sharpteeth, two large three-clawed sharpteeth and two fast biters, had somehow gotten into the Great Valley.

Littlefoot’s grandparents and Mr. Threehorn were the first to arrive at the site. The sharpteeth seeing that they were facing two Longnecks and a Threehorn visibly recoiled but did not flee.

More Great Valley dinosaurs arrived at the scene, hoping to scare the sharpteeth into fleeing.

Neither side was directly attacking yet but simply attempting to intimidate the other side.

The first blow was struck by a fast biter, it attempted to jump onto Ducky’s mom but she caught it square in the head with swift blow of her branch, knocking to the ground. With that the sharpteeth advanced.

One of the large sharpteeth, sensing an opportunity, seized a stone from one of the rubble piles that characterized the Great Rock Path and hurled it at Mr. Threehorn, stunning him and giving one of the larger sharpteeth an opportunity to knock him out with a well placed tail-whip.

“Mr. Threehorn!!” Petrie’s mother shouted. She already had to deal with an unconscious Runner and now an unconscious Threehorn.

Grandpa Longneck swept one of the larger sharpteeth off its feet with his tail and in that moment, another Swimmer took that opportunity to pelt it with rocks, one of which drew blood and another knocked a tooth out. Eventually, the sharptooth gave up and ran away under a continued barrage of rocks by the Swimmer and fierce tail-whips from Grandpa Longneck.

While the battle was going on, no one noticed the two flyers passing overhead or the two Egg-Stealers running by.

The action is heating up now! Don't worry, there will be more heavy-duty action later!

Chapter 4: Flyer Chase

Ozzie and Strut wandered through a forest in a remote corner of the Great Valley, searching for the stone.

“Ozzie! I’m hungry!” Strut said.

“Shut up!! We’ll eat when we find that stone!!” Ozzie shouted.

“But we’ve been searching forever. How do we know where that stone landed?” Strut said.

“Stop complaining you leaf-licker!” Ozzie shouted. His stomach growled, “Ok, maybe we can stop to eat.”

“Oh good!! I know a grove of…” Strut began before he was roughly cut off by a blow to head from his brother Ozzie.

“No, we have eggs. And never mention P-L-A-N-T-S again!!” Ozzie said.

The two Egg-Stealers ran out of the forest into a clearing.

“I smell eggs. Lots of them. Strut, go find them.” Ozzie said. “Strut? Where are you?” Ozzie turned around and spotted his brother eating some red berries, “Strut! Spit that out right now!!” he shouted, running up to Strut.

Strut coughed and swallowed the rest of the berries.

“Make yourself useful and help find some eggs! And give me those berries!!” Ozzie said, snatching the berries and throwing them into a river that divided the clearing in half

Just as Strut pushed a clump of grass aside he saw what he thought was a nest with an egg but upon closer inspection the “egg” revealed itself to be an egg-sized stone. He examined the stone, gently touching it with his hand. It felt like no other stone he had touched; it was cold despite being in open sun and it had a strange, almost watery feel. But most stunning of all was the appearance; the stone was a cold icy blue with an appearance like still water and when he touched it, the stone rippled like water.

“Ozzie! I found something!” Strut shouted. But Ozzie didn’t hear him; he was too busy eating some eggs he found in a nest.

“Ozzie! Come here!” Strut shouted.

“What is it Strut?” Ozzie said.

“It’s that weird stone!!!” Strut said, bouncing with excitement.

“What!!” Ozzie said, spitting out his meal.

When Ozzie arrived at where Strut said the stone was, he found nothing.

“Strut!!!!” Ozzie shouted, grabbing Strut by the neck, “What do you mean you found the stone? There is nothing here!”

“But I swear…” Strut choked out.

“We will continue looking.” Ozzie said, letting go of Strut’s neck

Meanwhile over Two Boulder Pass…

Two flyers, a tall brown flyer and a shorter dull reddish colored flyer, flew over Two Boulder Pass, looking for the Stone of Cold Fire.

“Where is that stupid rock!?” the large brown flyer shouted

“I don’t know, that’s why we’re looking for it!” the reddish one replied.

The two were unaware that another flyer, one that looked like Petrie was watching them.

“Oh no, I’d better tell the adults.” it said, veering away from the two and heading towards the Thundering Falls Lake.

Near the Great Rock Pass

The battle was wrapping up. One fast biter lay unconscious or dead and the other had fled. The only one left was the larger sharptooth but it too ran under a barrage of vicious tail-whips from Littlefoot’s grandparents.

“Ok, now that that’s taken care of. Let’s make sure the children are fine.” Grandpa Longneck said.

The adults dispersed to find their children, except for Mr. Thicknose as he had no children.

He examined a large rubble pile near the opening in the Great Rock Wall. He noticed pronounced scratch marks on a large boulder near the rubble pile.

“Hmm. Could it be? These look like marks caused by sharpteeth claws, but the sharpteeth we fought weren’t near this boulder at all.” he said to himself, before running towards the center of the Great Valley.

As he ran, he somehow didn’t hear the sound like that of a pile of boulders coming down

Chomper’s parents were in a wooded area of the Great Valley near the Bubbling Muds. They had hidden there when Chomper told them that sharpteeth had entered the valley and they might be mistaken for enemies.

Littlefoot had been in his nest since the call of “sharptooth attack!” had rang out. Moments later his grandparents arrived.

“Grandma! Grandpa!” Littlefoot said, nuzzling them, “you’re alright!”

Soon after that was said, Mr. Thicknose and a green Clubtail came running up to Grandpa and Grandma Longneck.

“Yes, we are fine Littlefoot. Now run along and go play. We have some important discussions to attend to.” Grandpa Longneck said.

“Ok!” Littlefoot said running off.

Littlefoot ran to the Bubbling Muds; when he arrived he already found his friends there.

“Momma tell me go play. She say she have do something important.” Petrie said.

“Wonder where Chomper is?” Littlefoot said.

“So what do you want to do?” Cera asked, growing impatient.

“How about tag? It is fun, it is, it is.” Ducky said.

The air was punctured with a growl that was not Chomper’s or his parents.

“Run!!” Littlefoot shouted.

As Littlefoot ran he saw Chomper’s parents holding off two large sharpteeth. They hissed something to Littlefoot, which he could not understand.

“They told you to run and get the grown-ups.” Chomper said.

Littlefoot obeyed and ran towards the Thundering Falls.

Just as Littlefoot left, Ozzie and Strut walked in. Sierra and Rinkus were flying above the battle.

“Maybe they know where that stone is.” Sierra said.

“I have an idea.” Rinkus said.

“I’m ahead of ya!” Sierra said, diving down.

“Oh, so you do know what my idea was?” Rinkus said, diving after Sierra

Strut saw the two diving flyers and dove into a large shrub.

The two flyers grabbed Ozzie and flew up with him until he was high above the Great Valley.

“Alright, Egg-Stealer tells us where that stone is or we make Egg-Stealer a flyer, without flying!” Sierra said.

“What stone?” Ozzie replied

“Don’t play dumb!” Sierra said.

“I’m not playing!!” Ozzie said.

“Alright, if you really are dumb, I guess no one will miss you. Ready Rinkus? On three. One, two..” Sierra said, preparing to drop Ozzie.

“Alright!! I’ll talk.” Ozzie said.

“That’s better.” Sierra said, grinning.

“We were sent out by a sharptooth to find a weird blue rock.”

“Good. Where is it?” Sierra said.

“I don’t know.” Ozzie replied

“Ready Rinkus? One, two” Sierra said.

“Augh!! I’ll talk!” Ozzie said.

“Maybe we can use his help to find the Stone of Cold Fire.” Rinkus offered.

“Yes. I’ll be glad to help.” Ozzie said, upon hearing Rinkus.

“Tell you what Egg-Stealer, we work together to find this stone.” Rinkus said.

“Are you crazy?” Sierra shouted

“But we could find the stone easier.” Rinkus said.

“Hmm. You’re right.” Sierra said.

On the ground, Strut poked his head out of the shrub. He looked up and saw Ozzie dangling from the claws of two large flyers.

“Now’s my chance.” he said as he ran off.

As Strut ran off, Sierra and Rinkus lowered Ozzie to the ground.

“I think there might be one near Two Boulder Pass.” Ozzie said.

“We will go there.” Sierra said.

Thundering Falls Lake

“Apparently, according to Mr. Thicknose here, the wall collapse at the Great Rock Path was not an accident. He claims that it was caused by sharpteeth. Mr. Thicknose, care to elaborate?” Grandpa Longneck said

“Yes, Mr. Longneck. A large boulder at that site was found with scratch marks in it, but they are very shallow. Also when I looked at the bottom of the boulder, for it had been lying on its side, there were gouges present. It looked like someone had pushed this boulder off a cliff and triggered that rock-fall allowing the sharpteeth to get in.”

Just as Mr. Thicknose was finished speaking, a large brown flyer swooped down.

“Pterano! You are not allowed in this valley, be gone!” shouted Mr. Threehorn

“It has been five cold-times already, he is allowed back.” Grandpa Longneck said.

“I spotted two flyers over Two Boulder Pass. They are trying to find the Stone of Cold Fire. And I think the flyers are Sierra and Rinkus.” Pterano said.

“We must stop them from taking the Stone of Cold Fire.” A male Swimmer said.

Just then Littlefoot ran in.

“Sharpteeth…near the Bubbling Muds,” he panted.

“I’ll warn the valley.” Grandpa Longneck said. “Sharptooth attack at Bubbling Muds!!!” he shouted.

Near the Bubbling Muds, Chomper’s parents were fighting the two sharpteeth. Neither was winning.

Just then Chomper saw the approaching valley adults and he waved his arms and shouted to get their attention.

Unfortunately, the attention that Chomper got was not the kind he wanted. He dodged a large rock thrown at him by a Swimmer and a vicious tail whip from Grandma Longneck.

“I’m not the enemy!” Chomper shouted.

Fortunately, Littlefoot ran to the adults and explained that Chomper was not an enemy and neither were his parents and how Chomper’s parents saved his life.

“Ok, the gold sharptooth is my mom and the black one is my dad.” Chomper said to the adults.

With the assistance of the valley adults, Chomper’s parents were quickly able to defeat the two sharpteeth.

Chomper’s dad, nursing an enormous gash down his leg, growled something.

“He says ‘Thank you for your help’.” Chomper said, translating.

“And I thank you two for saving our grandson’s life.” Grandpa Longneck said.

“Perhaps not all sharpteeth are bad.” Ducky’s mom said.

“Hmph. They’ll be waiting to eat us as soon as they can.” Mr. Threehorn said

Chomper’s mom hissed something.

“She says ‘Great Valley plant-eaters are too tough.’ ” Chomper translated.

All the valley dinosaurs laughed, except Mr. Threehorn who looked rather uncomfortable.

“I think we should resume the meeting.” Grandpa Longneck said.

High above the Great Valley

Pterano was flying above the Great Valley, searching for the two flyers. As he flew over Two Boulder Pass he saw two flyers and an Egg-Stealer huddled around something.

“Oh no! That must be the Stone of Cold Fire! I must warn the others!” he said, changing course to the Thundering Falls Lake.

On the ground, Ozzie, Rinkus and Sierra were trying to load the Stone of Cold Fire into a leaf bag.

“I told you we should have should have made a carrying-nest!” Rinkus said.

“Rinkus! Less talk, more work! We don’t have much time!” Sierra shouted.

Soon the three had loaded the stone into the leaf bag and were preparing to fly off.

“Um, guys. We have a problem!” Ozzie said, pointing at a small brown speck in the distance.

“Oh great. It’s Pterano!” Rinkus said.

“Let’s go!” Sierra shouted, clutching the bag in his claws and preparing to take off.

“Need any help, Sierra?” Rinkus asked.

“No, it’s not much heavier than that Swimmer I carried when I was with Pterano.” Sierra replied, flapping his wings and gaining altitude.

“What am I supposed to do?” Ozzie asked.

“Grab some rocks and hop on my back. We may need you to help fend off Pterano and his gang.” Rinkus replied.

Ozzie did as he was told, grabbing several rocks and placing them on Rinkus’s back and climbing aboard.

Soon, the two flyers and the Egg-Stealer were flying high above the Great Valley.

Thundering Falls Lake

Pterano landed in the circle of the adults, clearly out of breath. Chomper and his parents were present as well.

“They’re... flying off… with the Stone of… Cold Fire.” He said in between breaths.

“We must stop them!” a female Spike-Tail said.

“But how?” came the concerted reply.

Chomper’s father growled something.

“He says that we could either use Great Valley flyers to chase them or try and hit them from the ground.” Chomper translated.

“It sounds dangerous.” Ducky’s mom said.

“We have no other choice.” A male Runner said.

Mr. Threehorn, Grandpa Longneck and Grandma Longneck retreated from the assembled group and began to discuss the matter in private.

A few moments passed before they revealed their decision.

“Alright. The decision is made. We will assemble flyers to chase the two and the land-walkers will try and hit them from the ground.” Grandpa Longneck announced.

The preparations for the assault were made as quickly as possible. Pterano and a group of flyers were preparing to take off while a group of land-walkers gathered rocks to throw at the enemy flyers.

“We need two more two-footers!” Pterano shouted.

“Why?” asked Cera.

“Cera, don’t ask why!” Mr. Threehorn scolded.

Coincidentally, a pink Fast Runner and another Egg-Stealer ran out of the bushes.

“Well, it looks like we got two two-footers!” Pterano said, chuckling slightly.

“Ruby? What are you doing here?” Chomper asked.

“I heard the flyers needed another two-footer.” Ruby said.

“Strut! You are not welcome here!” Hyp’s dad shouted, striding towards Strut.

“Wait! I can explain! I actually eat green food and my brother’s going to kill me for that!” Strut said, backing away from Hyp’s dad.

”Yeah? Then where is he?” Mr. Threehorn said, staring down Strut.

“He got carried away by two big flyers. I’ll help you find him!” Strut replied, trying not to return Mr. Threehorn’s stare.

“I don’t trust him! I don’t care if he eats green-food he’s still an Egg-Stealer!” Mr. Threehorn said.

“Mr. Threehorn, Strut may be our only chance of finding those two flyers. Besides, he’s one of the few dinosaurs other than the kids who can be carried by the flyers.” Mr. Thicknose said.

Soon after the unexpected arrival of Strut and Ruby, the flyers took off and give chase. Two of the flyers carried two long vines between them. Ruby, Strut and Chomper were carried on three other flyers along with a supply of rocks and sticks. Pterano led the flyers.

On the ground, several land-walkers scattered throughout the Valley, each with a supply of rocks.

“We got company!” Ozzie shouted from Rinkus’s back.

“What are you waiting for, Egg-Stealer? Get them!” Rinkus shouted back.

“Alright, we’ll try and encircle them with the vines and bring them down.” One of the vine carrying flyers said.

No sooner had they said this, the flyer carrying Chomper flew above Sierra and Rinkus.

“Ready, Chomper?” the flyer that was carrying him asked.

“Ready.” Chomper replied, picking up a stone.

Chomper threw his rock down at Sierra, but he missed.

“Grey-Wing! We need to get lower!” Chomper shouted.

Grey-Wing obeyed and swooped so low that Chomper could see an Egg-Stealer on Rinkus’s back.

“Get lost!” Ozzie shouted as he threw a rock at Chomper. Chomper ducked and responded by throwing another rock at Ozzie, which missed due to Rinkus’s sudden drop in altitude.

Another flyer, who was carrying Ruby, flew next to Grey-Wing. “Get Sierra! Forget about Rinkus and that Egg-Stealer!” Ruby shouted.

Meanwhile, Strut and his flyer were lagging behind.

“Strut! Did you have to take so many sticks and rocks and what’s with all the leaves?” the flyer said, none too pleased with the weight.

“Sorry, Long-Wing, but I need all of that.” Strut replied, stuffing a leaf fragment and then a sharp twig into a hollow reed.

“What are you doing?” asked one of the vine-carrying flyers.

“I remember this trick that Ozzie taught me and how I’d annoy him for hours on end by blowing pieces of leaves at him.” Strut replied, bringing the reed to his beak.

The two vine carrying flyers flew straight at Rinkus and Sierra, hoping to entangle them in the vines. “We got them!” one of the flyers said.

“Not quite!” Ozzie shouted in reply, throwing a well aimed rock that knocked out one of the vine carrying flyers. The other flyer dropped the vine and dove down to catch his friend; he landed near the Thundering Falls Lake.

“Two down, four to…” Rinkus began before he was cut off by a sharp twig striking his back. “Ow! What was that?” he asked

“Strut! You plant-popper!! How dare you help the leaf-eaters!!” Ozzie shouted, seizing a rock and hurling it at Strut, but Strut’s flyer abruptly flew higher. He was about to grab another rock, but he realized that he had no more.

“Flyer, I have no more rocks!” Ozzie said.

“Well get some more!” Rinkus shouted.

“I can’t get rocks from the ground if I’m up here!” Ozzie shouted

“Let’s try this.” Rinkus said, diving down and flying until he was almost level to the ground.

“Hey, I see where you are going!” Ozzie said, as he stuck out his hands to grab the rocks as they flew.

“Got the rocks?” Rinkus asked.

“Got ‘em!” Ozzie replied.

“I’ll get Sierra!” Pterano said, racing ahead of the other flyers and increasing his altitude until he was above Sierra. “Sierra!! Give up that rock!!” he shouted.

“No can do, Pterano.” Sierra said, grinning evilly.

“We’ll see!” Pterano said, diving into Sierra.

Sierra lost some altitude from Pterano’s dive attack, but he quickly recovered and sent Pterano spinning with a blow from the leaf bag containing the Stone of Cold Fire.

On the ground, Pterano landed rather roughly in a clearing near the edge of the Great Valley. There were several adults in the area each with a supply of rocks. Of course, the rocks were mainly given to the flyers since the land-walkers couldn’t hit Sierra and Rinkus from the ground

“They’re…almost out of the valley.” he said.

“We can’t throw rocks high enough and we certainly can’t fly!” Mr. Threehorn said

Littlefoot thought a moment and then he remembered how he once used a tree to launch a boulder and started a rock-fall which sealed the hole in the Great Rock Wall.

“Grandpa, what if we use a tree to launch rocks at them? They would go a lot higher then if we just threw them.” Littlefoot said.

“That’s a great idea!” a male Fast Runner said.

Soon after the plan was announced, preparations for the plan were started and several saplings were bent and rocks placed on them.

“Here they come!” Hyp’s dad shouted.

“Fire!” shouted Mr. Threehorn.

Soon, a hail of rocks were flying through the air, several of them striking Ozzie, Rinkus and Sierra.

“Ha! Ha! We got ‘em!” Hyp shouted.

“Don’t be too sure.” Ducky’s mom said, pointing to the two enemy flyers.

A surprised murmur went through the group; they clearly saw the rocks strike the flyers and the Egg-Stealer but they seemed to be unaffected by them.

Littlefoot remembered what the Rainbow-Faces said to him when he met them. “Grandpa! I think that Stone of Cold Fire is doing something to them!”

“Of course it’s doing something to them! Those rocks did as much to them as a tree-star falling on a sharptooth does to it!” Mr. Threehorn said gruffly.

The other flyers had landed and the one knocked out by Ozzie was coming to.

“We failed.” Chomper said, hanging his head in shame. His face was reddened from the wind.

“At, least my brother isn’t going to be around here anymore.” Strut said, trying to be optimistic. He had gash on his face from a rock that Ozzie threw at him and several more scratches on his body. He placed his hollow reed against a boulder and went off to a nearby berry bush to eat.

“I’m going to try and get that that leaf Sierra is holding.” Pterano said, flapping his wings in preparation for takeoff.

“Uncle Pterano, don’t!” Petrie said.

“Petrie’s right, we don’t know what the Stone of Cold Fire is capable of!” Mr. Thicknose added.

Before anyone could stop him, Pterano flew upwards and began to chase Sierra and Rinkus into the Mysterious Beyond.

“I must catch them!” he said to himself, but he knew that there was almost no chance of that occurring as Sierra and Rinkus were already specks on the setting sun.

“I have failed.” He said to himself as he turned back towards the Great Valley after losing sight of Sierra and Rinkus when it got dark.

In the darkness, Pterano didn’t see a mysterious sharptooth standing on the peaks of the Great Rock Wall
