For my fanfic, Pokemon Adventures: Black & White, I was thinking of giving the characters last names if they have none. Trouble is that I can't think of any suitable ones other than "Burgh Anthony" and "Georgia Langley" (her character is adapted from the Best Wishes Anime). I'm especially having trouble with the three main characters Hilda, Bianca and Cheren. Can you guys help me out?

generally my last names are something simple that have their words twisted around. i think about some people i know and their last names and just twist them around a bit, and make sure they fit with the character's first name.

I usually use their Japanese names as surnames.

I try to avoid last names like the plauge as long as possible until it becomes inevitable or I get an idea. Usually though, I just pick a word I feel describes the character and translate it into another language so that it sounds cool or I just use a random name generator to give it more of an 'ordinary guy turned hero' feel.

Eh. On that subject, I tend to find that... iffy, even if I did used to do it. Using japanese names as surnames. I usually just google common surnames, and find things that sound nice together--or make them up, if they do have a general theme (like the example of "Cheren Black").

I plan to have a character named Professor Icarus Imori. He's based on the same CoTD from the Anime of the same English and Japanese name respectively.

I usually use their Japanese names, except in certain cases:
The DP Trio (Lucas, Dawn and Barry- I call them Lucas Diamond, Dawn Platinum, and Barry Pearl, simply because they're able to work as names. I do use their Japanese names as their middle names though!)
Kris (I call her Kris Marina as of late. I was planning on using Marina's Japanese name, but unfortunately it's the same.)
Leaf (I call her Leaf Greens. I don't mention Red's surname, even when he's the main character of my fic. I usually just call him when I need a title for him 'Red of Pallet Town'. I was thinking of calling him Red Satoshi, using Ash's Japanese name, but anyways...)
Cheren and Bianca (I call them Cheren Kuro and Bianca Shiro, referring to two ships involving them (KuroShipping (Hilbert x Cheren) and ShiroShipping (Hilda x Bianca) respectively.)
Hilda and Hilbert (These two get tricky. I always view them as almost-identical opposite-gendered twins. In my BW novelization, because of a game they played when they were small children, where Hilda would be the White Princess and Hilbert would be the Black Prince, they gave themselves the titles 'Hilda Touko White' and 'Hilbert Touya Black', Touko and Touya being their middle names. Their real surnames, however, is Blanoire- a combination of the words Blanche and Noire, those being the colours of black and white in French.)
Silver (I call him Silver Sakaki, Sakaki being Giovanni's Japanese name. Plus, that makes his initials 'SS', and that's just cool.)
There's probably more, but I can't remember them right now.

Just plain 'Behind the Name.com' is awesome. I use it all the time. But, for last names, it's <surnames.behindthename.com> You can choose from dozens upon dozens of different cultures and meanings. It's really easy to use. :)

Though, maybe: Hilda Thompson, Bianca Maybelle, and Cheren Morrow (pronounced- mah.row)

Do you think Lenora's last name could be Hawes as well as her husband's. I'd called Mr. Hawes, Carl.

Hmmm.... Yeah. I could see her being Lenora Hawes. It's got a good ring to it.

i usally have the last names reflect their character or in the case of gym leaders, their type
Example: A boxer gym leader who uses fighting type: Kyle Uppercut
Flying type gym leader who is a captain: Archie storm
I always find that to be within the same style as the games (Pryce in gen II for an example)

I notice you've probably already got your answer but in the future there is a thread already existing for this sort of things:

Need a Name Thread

Please refrain from posting topics like this in the future when one already exists. If you are unsure then do contact one of the staff and they can clarify where your question should go.
