Well, I know there's at least one fan here other than me (and anyone who ISN'T a fan...SHOULD BE...I can't suggest the series enough). Apparently some info on the future of the series was revealed at this weekend's New York Comic-Con.

Newsarama said:
Asked what the future for Young Avengers is, Brevoort said that Allan Heinberg is in it for the long haul, but is committed to his television work, saying that the series will wind down through its current run, and restart early next year. No issue numbers were given.

The editor also announced that there will be a Runaways/Young Avengers crossover mini-series coming during Civil War.

Interesting stuff...and makes me wonder if the Young Avengers have much of a future. But there's plenty of stuff left before the current run winds down.

Jebus. Maybe people will finally stop asking for it. Both are relatively new books, but really, whenever you see a topic about one, the other inevitably gets drawn into it. Personally, I think they're very different books with very different audiences. Young Avengers is basically about and for geeky young fanboys who want superpowers and want to go on wacky fun sort of campy silver-age adventures. Runaways is basically about and for angsty fangirls who like anime and light goth stuff.

Basically, this is going to be the superpowered equivalent of trying to merge the chess club with the drama club at a highschool.

Although to be fair, I guess people keep on making the connection between the two because in flash-forwards and time travel adventures as of late it's basically stated that the next group of Avengers in the Marvel Universe's future (one we'll problably never see thanks to comicdom's Hypertime, but still . . .) is essentially supposedly some of the Runaways combined with some of the Young Avengers . . . - but as of now, I see this as ending up in a superpowered slap fight.

You're forgetting the massive amount of similarities between the teams. Both exist without the older teams WANTING them to exist. Both deal with parental issues that far exceed the average person's. Both have lost a teammate (circumstances were different, but still). Both have tackled one of the Avengers' greatest foes and won.

But you're right, they are different. If nothing else, Young Avengers is aimed at an older group than Runaways (look at the letters page).

And I still don't like Marvel's "when it's not broke...restart" policy.
