Has there any ever been any talk about a National League competition for Pokemon Trainers? I ask because Regionals are the focus of so much, but considering how hard it is to get into a Regional Championchip, it must be absolute hell to meet the requirements for the Nationals. I wonder if you have to just beat a Regional League, or do something crazy like collect 48 badges or something.

There hasn't been talk of one in any canon source, from what I know. Perhaps there aren't any?

Well we see Mr Goodshow at every anime league and Ash doesn't look ahead in any specifics beyond "become a Pokémon Master", so we might see something there if it ever gets a proper conclusion.

I've always assumed that after regional championships there were national championships, then continental championships, then world championships.

Yeah, but which country's which? Are Kanto and Johto part of a big country called Tohjo (since they're attached), or are all four current regions parts of one big country?

I always assume that all of the regions Ash has traveled to are all the same country except for the Orange Islands, indicated by the identical uniforms the Jennys and Joys wear.

Yeah, the fact that the combined Pokedex for Kanto, Johto, Shinnoh, and Hoenn is called the NationalDex all indicates they're in the same country.

Where did the Tohjo as the nation's name come from, anyways?

National Dex: Makes sense to me.

Tohjo Falls lies on the border of Kanto and Johto, so I assumed it.

Roses: We had a Jenny in that uniform during Battle Frontier.

No, I belive there's a different name for it given in the anime novelizations, but I can't find the topic where it was discussed. : /
