This is my first fic. I hope everyone enjoys it. This first chapter isn't much, but it gets better, I assure you. I don't know if I broke this up correctly. Anyway, be gentle.

Chapter 1: A New League
“Happy birthday, Lucas!” announced all the members of the McCarthy family in Viridian City.

Today, Lucas turns 12, and he is very excited for his parents have given him the best present a boy his age could ask for: a pokemon trainer’s license, and permission to go on his own pokemon journey. He has black hair and blue eyes and loves to wear his green shirt and blue denim pants.

It was a pain for Lily McCarthy, his mother, but all of his family was assembled for this event. Theodore, his father, took the day off from his accounting job at Silph Co. to present Lucas with his gift. Brenda, his older sister, has also taken the day off from her apprenticeship at Celadon Gym.

Lucas blew out the 12 candles of his twin layered chocolate cake with frosting to make it look like a pokeball to the cheers and applause of the entire family.

“And I’m sure your wish has come true, son,” said Theodore, “Here is your trainer’s license, as promised.”

“Wow! Thanks, Dad!” exclaimed Lucas as he fingered the plastic laminated card.

“We can go to Professor Oak’s Lab later to get your starter pokemon for the league later today, but for now, we celebrate,” Theodore said as he got the knife and began cutting the cake.

Every new pokemon trainer gets a pokemon from Professor Oak to start their journey through the Kanto Pokemon League. Just last year, Brenda participated in the league tournaments, and placed in the top four trainers, losing only to present League Champion.

As they all ate cake and drank soda, a news program was bringing up a special bulletin. “The Pokemon League has announced a new league for the far away island of Hoenn,” the news anchor said.

“A new league?” Lucas interrupted.

“Shhh, let the man continue,” Theodore replied.

“Professor Birch, the local pokemon professor of this region has been given the honor of giving new trainers in this new region their starter pokemon, and also invites trainers from the Kanto and Johto regions to participate in this new league,” the anchor continued, “Trainers will receive one of three pokemon native to the Hoenn region: Treecko, a grass type; Torchic, a fire type; and Mudkip, a water type. To encourage participating in this league, special tickets for the famous SS Aqua are being offered by the Kanto and Johto Leagues to any new trainers registering today.”

“Wow! Dad, can we get one of those? I want to go to Hoenn.” Lucas pleaded.

“Hoenn? But you’ll be so far away, I would get too worried about you,” Lily replied.

“Lily, he’s old enough to be on a pokemon journey now, he can take care of himself,” Theodore said to her. “I think it’s an excellent idea for him to go to a far away place and get cultured in the ways of the world.”

“Thanks, Dad,” Lucas replied, hugging his father.

Later, Theodore and Lucas went to Pallet Town to visit Professor Oak, not to get a starter pokemon, but to get one of the promotional tickets for the SS Anne to Hoenn.

“This is the best birthday ever,” Lucas happily said as he held the ticket.

“You will still need a pokemon to get through the dangerous Viridian Forest and Diglett’s Cave to get to Vermilion so that you can catch the boat,” Theodore explained. “I will lend you one of my old pokemon to make that journey, but you must send it back to us when you reach Vermilion.”

“I will, Dad,” Lucas replied.

“Good,” he said. “Here is my old Raichu,” he continued, handing Lucas a pokeball. “He has helped me through a lot, so please take good care of him.”

“Thanks, you can count on me,” Lucas said. Lucas went to sleep that night with plenty of dreams of becoming a great pokemon master, and woke up early the next day to pack his clothes in his new pack, and begin his journey.

“I’ll miss you, baby,” Lily said to him with tears in her eyes.

“I’ll be fine, Mom, I’m not a baby anymore,” he said.

“That’s right, my boy is a big strong pokemon trainer now,” she said, still crying. “You go get them, honey, and make sure to call and say hi every now and then.”

“Yeah, have a great time, son, we’re all rooting for you,” Theodore added.

“Don’t let those tough trainers get to you, or I’ll come and give them a piece of my mind,” Brenda joked.

“Oh, and honey,” Lily continued, “don’t forget to change your underwear.”

Lucas face faulted. “Mom!” They all said goodbye, and Lucas headed towards Viridian Forest, wondering what adventures awaited him, and who he would meet.

Wow, this fanfic is very great:) I know the chapters will get better. In all good stories, the first three or 4 chapters in a story are the chapters that do the introducing and may be "unthrilling." Your story has got me interested in it and I will be awaiting the next chapter!:)

Thanks, here is the next one. I won't normally post a chapter a day since I feel this should go a bit slower so that I can write more chapters, but I'm leaving for a while, so enjoy this one until I come back with the next one.

Chapter 2: Battle of Diglett’s Cave

Having been born in Viridian City, the forest next to it was all too well known to Lucas. It is a dark maze of trees and tall grass that is simply overrun with bug pokemon and trainers trying to navigate their way through it. He and his father used to always go camping here, with his father’s pokemon to protect him, and now he had to use the pokemon to protect him again.

“Raichu, Thunderbolt!” he commanded as Raichu, an orange mouse-like pokemon with yellow cheeks and brown stripes on its body took down another wild Metapod. “This is too easy, especially with such a strong pokemon.”

At that moment, a small boy in plain clothes leaped out of the brush. “We’ll see about that!” the boy said. “How dare you harm these cool bug pokemon!”

Lucas turned to face him, and said, “Bring it on!”

“Ok,” the boy said, “Go, Beedrill!” He threw a pokeball, and it opened, revealing a yellow and black wasp like pokemon with stingers for arms.

“Raichu, show him how we do things,” Lucas said, as Raichu leapt in front him with cheeks surging with electricity.

“Beedrill, Twineedle!” the boy called, and Beedrill brought its twin stingers forward, stabbing at Raichu, but the mouse dodged every jab.

“Raichu, Thundershock!” Lucas called, and it sent electricity towards the Beedrill, shocking it. “Now use Quick Attack!” Lucas barked, and Raichu became an orange blur, catching the Beedrill by surprise and pinning it down.

“Beedrill, Poison Sting!” the boy cried, and it brought the main stinger on its abdomen forward, jabbing and poisoning Raichu.

“Hang in there, Raichu, use Thunderbolt,” Lucas said as Raichu gave Beedrill a strong jolt of electricity, making faint on the spot.

“Beedrill, return,” the boy said as he returned Beedrill to its pokeball. “Good battle.”

“You too,” Lucas replied. “I need to heal Raichu now, though.”

“There’s a Pokemon Center in Pewter City, just outside the forest,” the boy explained. “I’ll take you; my Beedrill needs to be revived, too.”

“Thanks,” Lucas replied.

At the Pokemon Center, Lucas saw another boy slightly older than him, also holding a ticket for Hoenn. He had brown hair, a red shirt, and gray pants.
“Are you going to participate in the new league, too?” Lucas asked him.

“Yeah,” he said. “I need a pokemon to help me navigate Diglett’s Cave, though.”

“My dad lent me a pokemon, I can help you,” suggested Lucas.

“Aren’t you with that other trainer?” the boy asked.

“No, we just battled and we needed to heal both of our pokemon,” Lucas replied.

The Pokemon Center’s nurse came in and said to Lucas, “Your pokemon has recovered, here you go.”

“Thank you,” Lucas told her.

“Ok,” the boy replied. “My name is Scott Matthews,” he said as he extended his hand in friendship.

“I’m Lucas McCarthy,” Lucas replied, shaking his hand. “Where are you from?”

“I live right here in Pewter City,” Scott answered. “Everyone here is fascinated either by bug pokemon or rock pokemon, I, however, am fascinated by fire pokemon. After hearing that this new league has a new fire pokemon as a starter, I had to get a ticket and go to Hoenn and get this pokemon to train. You see, my dream is be a fire pokemon master, and that new pokemon is what I’m going to begin with.”

“I see,” Lucas said.

They left the Pokemon Center, and headed straight for Diglett’s Cave, a tunnel right outside Viridian Forest that leads straight for Vermilion, and thus the shortest route a trainer could ask for. They entered the slightly lit cave and quickly found out why only trainers with pokemon could enter the cave-a small brown mole pokemon with a red nose popped out of the ground and said “Diglett!”

“Time to see if that pokemon of yours is any good,” Scott said.

“Of course it is,” Lucas replied. “Go, Raichu, use Quick Attack!” Lucas threw the pokeball and released Raichu, who attacked the Diglett, but only more popped up. “Keep going, Raichu!” Lucas commanded, and Raichu sped through the cave, hitting every Diglett in sight. As they got deeper, the Diglett started getting angry and fought back, but Raichu was too fast for them.

“I have to admit, that’s impressive,” Scott complimented.

“Thank you,” Lucas replied with a smug smile on his face, but as he said this, Raichu was hit by something and collapsed on the cave floor. “Raichu! Are you all right?” Lucas yelled, running to comfort it.
“Chuuuu,” it said, nursing a wound in its stomach.

Lucas and Scott looked up, and saw three larger moles grouped together. “I think we need to run,” Scott said with a note of panic in his voice.

“Why?” asked Lucas.

“That’s Dugtrio, the evolved form of Diglett,” he answered. “It is said to evolve from Diglett’s rage. The Diglett band together and form this new pokemon, and cause cave-ins.”

“Trio,” it said, going underground, and soon the whole cave started to shake, making dirt start to fall all over the place.

Scott grabbed Lucas’s hand and they ran through the cave as it started to collapse behind them. Scott tugged Lucas at top speed, and noticed light straight ahead. They just made it out of the cave, dust billowing out from the cave exit. They landed with a thud outside of the cave, and watched as the dust cleared away.

“You saved us,” Lucas said, astonished.

“I guess I did,” Scott replied. “But we were lucky it wasn’t too far to this side, your Raichu got us pretty far. You’re pretty good.”

“No, you’re good,” Lucas commented. “If it weren’t for you, that Dugtrio would’ve buried us alive.”

Scott thought for a moment, and said, “You know, we’re great together; I think we should journey through Hoenn together.”

“Really? I’d like to!” Lucas exclaimed.

“Great,” Scott replied.

Chapter 3: The Aquatic Savior

Vermilion City wasn’t very far from the other end of Diglett’s Cave. It is a port, home to many luxury liners that bring trainers from all over the world.

“Raichu was amazing, Mom,” Lucas told Lily over the Pokemon Center’s video phone. “Thank Dad for me, I’m sending it back now.” Lucas placed the pokeball into the transfer device, sending Raichu back home.

“Got it honey,” she replied. “Who’s that with you?”

Lucas turned to find Scott was still standing beside him. “Hi, Mrs. McCarthy,” Scott said. “I’m Scott Matthews, and don’t worry, your son is safe with me.”

“Oh, you have a friend already? That’s nice, it’s always good to travel with friends,” Lily said.

“Well, it’s time to catch the boat, bye Mom,” hurried Lucas. “Bye honey, have a good time,” she answered.

They then left the Pokemon Center and headed towards Vermilion’s dock, and could not help but stare in awe at the ship their ticket was for.

“The Fast Ship SS Aqua,” Lucas said in wonderment.

“Yeah,” Scott added. “Normally, it is the transport of only the best trainers in the region, but today, trainers from all over seeking to go to Hoenn like us will be going on this luxury liner.”

They showed their tickets to the sailor, and were admitted on the ship, there, they saw trainers from all over Kanto and Johto with all sorts of plans for their journies through Hoenn.

“I heard there’s all kinds of unknown pokemon, I’m gonna find one of them,” one said.

“Well, I’m gonna have the best collection of pokemon there is when I’m done,” another said.

“I heard the Gym Leaders are the toughest yet, I hope I can beat them,” a trainer holding a brochure was saying.

Lucas noticed Scott also had one of these brochures, and was looking over the Hoenn map.

“Where did you get that?” Lucas asked.
“They’re over there at the entrance, don’t you pay attention?” Scott explained as he pointed toward a table with a league representative and piles of brochures. Lucas face faulted.

Scott spent a lot of time swimming in the boat’s pool and playing cards with the other trainers, but Lucas spent a lot of time looking out at the sea and wondering what Hoenn will be like. In fact, his imagination was so vivid that he thought he saw a pirate ship approaching them. He blinked, and the ship was still getting closer. He realized that he wasn’t imagining it, there was a ship heading for them.

He ran straight to Scott, who was having a conversation with a girl. “So, I grabbed his hand, and ran us of the cave,” he was explaining, and then Lucas tore in and hurriedly panted, “Scott, we need to get someone, I saw pirates.”

“Lucas, can this wait?” Scott asked. “Besides, there’s no such thing as pirates.”

“Indeed, there’s no such thing as pirates,” a male voice behind them said.

“But there is a Team Aqua,” a young woman next to him added.

Lucas and Scott stared at the pair before them, both dressed in black and white striped shirts, blue pants with a circle pattern on the seam, and a bandana with an A shaped like a skull and crossbones. They began to speak a rhyme that could only be some kind of motto: “Prepare for trouble,” said the woman. “Make it double,” continued the man.
“To protect the world from dehydration.”
“To sink the hopes of every nation.”
“To raid the booty of every harbor.”
“To seek the oceans for Kyogre.”
“Melissa.”
“Kyle.”
“Team Aqua sails across the water.”
“Surrender now, we give no quarter.”

A small gray canine pokemon popped up and said “Poochyena!” The boat was then overrun by people in the same outfit as Melissa and Kyle, and they showed they had captured the ship’s captain, meaning the boat was now under their control.

Team Aqua then started to take the pokemon of everyone that brought one, and if they fought back, Team Aqua sent one of their own pokemon to subdue them. While Melissa watched Lucas and Scott, Kyle was bothering a girl about Scott’s age. She had red hair and wore a white shirt, blue shorts, and a matching vest. “Give me your pokemon,” he ordered.

“I don’t have a pokemon,” she cried.

“Don’t lie to me, little girl, give me your pokemon, or pay the price,” he threatened.

Lucas was shocked to see this, and ran to her. Melissa was surprised by the sudden turn of events, and was not in time to stop him.

“Lucas, don’t,” pleaded Scott, but he didn’t listen and tackled Kyle, saying, “Leave her alone!”

He threw Lucas off of him and turned, scoffing at Lucas. “Or what? You’ll battle me? Don’t tell me you don’t have a pokemon either,” he said.

Lucas hung his head in shame; he wished he had Raichu right now.

“Poochyena, Tackle!” Kyle ordered the gray canine, and it leapt onto Lucas’s chest, sending him crashing to the floor, cringing in pain. Kyle picked him up by his shirt and held him over the water below. “Now you pay the price for meddling with Team Aqua,” he said. “Say ‘Hello’ to the Sharpedo for me.”

Lucas looked below, and was afraid for his life, but then, a shadow appeared in the water and Lucas swore he saw glowing red patterns on the shadow as it went under the ship and disappeared. The next moment, a huge wave crashed over the other side of the ship, causing it to tilt a bit.

“What’s going on?” Kyle roared.

“We don’t know, it isn’t windy at all, and there isn’t a cloud in the sky,” a grunt answered. Another wave came over the side of the ship they were on, knocking Kyle and Lucas onto the deck. More waves kept rocking the vessel, making it difficult for them to control it.

“Abandon ship! We have enough pokemon, let the sea claim these losers,” Kyle ordered, and all the Team Aqua members went into their ship, sailing off onto the horizon, saying, “Team Aqua casts off again!” The waves died down, and the captain and his sailors took back control of the ship.

“You saved me, Thank you,” the girl said to Lucas.

“Yeah, but you nearly got yourself killed, too,” Scott warned him.

“I’m sorry,” Lucas said. “It’s just that I couldn’t stand that guy picking on a defenseless girl like that.”

The girl slapped Lucas across the face. “So, you think I can’t defend myself?” she said.

“No, it’s just that I was trying to help, that jerk wouldn’t believe you didn’t have a pokemon,” Lucas answered.

“Good thing those waves came. I wonder what caused them,” Scott wondered.

Lucas was going to tell them of the creature he saw, but they would never believe him, so he just shrugged.

“Thanks for the help, I’m Diane Swellow, I come from Vermilion,” the girl said.

“I’m Lucas McCarthy, from Viridian,” Lucas answered.

“Scott Matthews, Pewter City,” Scott replied. “Nice to meet you,” Diane replied. “There must be some way I can repay you, how about we journey through Hoenn together. I have some cooking utensils with me, and I make some fine dinners.”

“Food?” they said in unison. “Sure, we’d love to have you!”

Hey! I Love this fic! It has a lot of description, but I wish the chapters were longer. Anyways, kepp posting, cuz I LOVE it!

Torchic

Thank you. I'll think about it, no one has responded in a long time. I'm sorry, I do have some chapters that are longer, but these are as long as I could possibly make them. I try, I really do. I'm currently done with up to Chapter 13, so there is plenty to this, and more to come.

Chapter 4: Biding Time

The SS Aqua landed on a dock packed full of people greeting the trainers to Hoenn, and also with numerous reporters scrambling to interview the trainers as they walked off the ship. Fighting through this sea of people, the trainers were led to a brown haired man with a small beard. He was wearing a lab coat, but also had blue pants.

“Welcome to Hoenn,” he said. “I am Professor Birch, and if you’ll come with me, all will be explained.”

He led the trainers up a country road that lead to a small town with few houses, and an impressive pokemon lab.

“This is Littleroot Town, were you will begin your journey through the Hoenn Pokemon League,” Professor Birch said.

He took them to the lab, and they all went inside, where there was two piles of objects, and Professor Birch stood between the piles. He took an object from the pile on his right, and explained, “This is the new version of the Pokedex, made to scan and tell you what we know of the new pokemon in this region. Not all the pokemon that inhabit Hoenn are known yet, so if you encounter one of these pokemon, the Pokedex will scan it, and make a new entry. Every one of you gets one of these.”

Professor Birch then handed out Pokedexes to all the trainers.

“Now,” he continued. “If you already have a pokemon, then you may proceed to the Pokemon Center in Oldale, just north of here, but any new trainers without a pokemon will stay.”

Most of the trainers then left, leaving but a few trainers to listen to what the professor would say next.

“Ah, I see some of you are interested in getting one of the three new starters being introduced by the league,” Prof. Birch commented.

“Yeah!” all the trainers shouted.

“Ok, then get in line and take a pokeball from this pile,” Professor Birch said as he pointed to the pile on his left.

The trainers lined up and took turns selecting a ball from the pile. Some of them immediately got the pokemon they wanted, others took a while selecting a pokemon. Soon, it was Lucas’s turn. Lucas walked up to the pile of pokeballs, looking it over. He reached out and grabbed a pokeball, throwing it to see what it was.

“Go, Pokeball!” he said, and the pokeball burst open with red light that formed into a green lizard pokemon with amber eyes and curled leaves for tails.

“Treecko,” it said.

“That is Treecko, the Wood Gecko pokemon, it is a grass type,” explained Professor Birch.

“What a cool pokemon,” Lucas said. “I’ll take this one.”

He returned the Treecko to its pokeball and waited for Scott and Diane to have their turns. Scott went up to the pile, but didn’t look it over. Instead, he asked the professor, “I want the fire type, whatever it is.”

“Ok,” the professor replied. “Then you want Torchic.” He took a ball from the pile and threw it, revealing a small orange chick with a tuft of yellow feathers on its head and small yellow wings.

“Chic,” it chirped.

“Ok, thanks, Professor,” Scott said, taking the pokeball and returning the Torchic.

Diane then looked over the pile of pokeballs, choosing a ball from the side that had been neglected by the other trainers. “Go, Pokeball!” she called, releasing a small blue pokemon on all fours. It had orange cheeks with gills, a fin on its head, and a fin for a tail.

“That is Mudkip, a water type pokemon,” explained Professor Birch.

“How cute,” Diane said. “But you have to be tough, too, show me what you got.”

“Kip!” it said as it leapt onto her stomach, making her stumble back to stop falling.

“Good Tackle,” she said. “Ok, I’ll take this pokemon.” She returned the Mudkip to its pokeball and joined Lucas and Scott.

“Wow, we each got a different starter,” Lucas noticed.

“Yeah, all three of them, the trainers better watch out, with this combination, we’ll be hard to beat,” Scott added.

“I can’t wait to start battling, I want to see what they can really do,” Diane said.

The three trainers left Littleroot Town and headed north to Oldale Town to register. There was a slight wind, and the trees and grass all waved as if welcoming the new trainers. They stopped to have lunch here, setting up a fire as Diane got out a pot and some dishes. Lucas and Scott watched in awe as Diane prepared some ramen noodle soup, the smell enough to make them drool.

“This stuff is good,” Lucas mumbled as he ravenously ate the soup.

“Yeah, I have a feeling we’ll get some other tasty meals, too,” Scott added.

“Oh, you guys,” Diane blushed.

After eating, they continued on the trail, and then a blonde girl in a purple shirt and dress blocked their path.

“Hello,” Lucas said. “Could you please let us pass.”

“No,” she said. “I am Sherry Knight, and I live here in Hoenn; in Oldale Town to be precise. I know you came on that boat to Hoenn to participate in the league, and I’m not going to let some rookies from a foreign land take the trophy from us. The championship should go to a native of this land, and that will be me.”

“So, you want to battle,” Scott said.

“Yeah,” Sherry replied. “Which one of you has what it takes to face me.”

“I do,” Diane answered. Lucas and Scott stared at her in shock.

“Don’t worry guys, I’ll handle this one,” she told them.

“Ok, if you want,” Lucas replied.

“Then let’s begin this, Go, Seedot!” Sherry called as she threw a pokeball and it formed into an acorn with eyes and feet.

“Go, Mudkip!” Diane said as she released the pokemon into battle. “Show it your Tackle.” Mudkip started running toward Seedot.

“Harden, Seedot” Sherry commanded. “Seedot,” it said, as a white strip of light went over it just as Mudkip ran into it, but it had little effect as Mudkip just bounced off of it.

“Mudkip, Water Gun!” Diane commanded, and Mudkip shot a stream of water from its mouth, sending the Seedot back.

“Bide, Seedot,” Sherry said, and Seedot gave off a red glow, but did nothing.

“Use Mud Shot,” Diane called, and Mudkip started to water the ground and throw the mud at Seedot. Sherry’s pokemon glowed red again and charged toward Mudkip, saying “Seedot” and hit Mudkip with a lot of force, making it collapse.

“Mudkip! Are you all right?”

“Muuudkip,” it cried as it stumbled back up onto its legs.

“Ok, cover it with mud,” Diane said.

“Kip!” it said, splashing more mud onto Seedot.

“Bide again, Seedot,” Sherry ordered, and Seedot glowed red again.

“Now, Tackle” Diane said, and Mudkip pounced on Seedot, knocking it to the ground and getting more dirt on it.

“Seedot,” it said, getting up and glowing red. It charged for Mudkip again, but it missed because it couldn’t see well, and all the dirt was weighing it down.

“Now, while its back is turned, hit it with Water Gun,” Diane called. Mudkip turned and sent a stream of water at Seedot’s back, cleaning off the mud, but knocking Seedot into the dirt.

“All right, now finish it with Tackle,” Diane said.

“Muuuud…Kiiiip!” it said, gathering up speed, leaping into the air, and landing on top of Seedot.

“Seeeedot,” it cried, cringing under the force of the blow.

“Ugh, Seedot, return,” Sherry said, sending a red beam from her pokeball at Seedot, sending it back to the pokeball. “You haven’t seen the last of me, I won’t rest until you are out of the league.” She ran off into the forest, leaving the path clear at last.

“We did it, Mudkip. Thank you,” Diane congratulated her new friend.

“Mudkip,” it said, smiling.

“That was amazing,” Lucas commented.

“Yeah, you showed her,” Scott added.

“See, I told you I can defend myself,” she told them. They continued on the path, seeing another small town in the distance and ran off to it, eager to begin their pokemon journey.

I really like this fic and I hope you continue to write even though there aren't that many readers. I really like this fic and i know it has promise.

Torchic

Thanks again. I will at least post a new chapter twice a week, as I am still working on the other chapters. (Chapter 13 finished now) It's ok, I like the company, even if is only one person.

I haven't seen the animé in a while, so tell me, did you make up that poem Team Aqua recited? If so, very nice!

~Rocky "Poochyena!" Cliffs

Yes, I made it up. Thanks. I have one for Team Magma, too, which will be seen later. ;-) I find the TA one the better of the two.

I really don't like this chapter, but to make it long enough, I had to act like the anime writers and do filler. XD

Chapter 5: Pokemon Tag

Lucas felt right at home. Oldale was just like Viridian in every way, except no Gym and no Trainer House. Inside the Pokemon Center, it was very busy with trainers registering for the league, Lucas and his friends included. Waiting to be registered was not on Lucas's mind right now, he was transfixed upon an old tapestry in the waiting room.

The center’s nurse came up to him and said, “Like it? It tells of Hoenn’s legends, pokemon thought to have powers over them all.”

“Kanto has pokemon like that,” Lucas said. “They are the three legendary birds, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. We also have a legend of a creature that is the ancestor of all pokemon. It is called Mew.”

“Yes, I have heard of these legends, and many more from Johto, like the legendary beasts that run across the land, and the two leaders of the birds and beasts, Lugia and Ho-oh. Johto’s greatest legend is a pokemon said to come from the future, and has time travel capabilities, it is called Celebi.”

“Wow, how’d you learn all that?” Lucas asked.

“I heard it from all the trainers that came here and stared at that tapestry just like you did,” she explained. “You see, Hoenn has as many legends as both Kanto and Johto combined, and this tapestry has symbols representing them all.”

“Really? How do you know?” Lucas asked.

“The archaeologists who brought this here told me,” she said. “See those three dot patterns?” She pointed to three patterns of seven dots, one was in the shape of an H, the second one formed a cross, and the third one was a circle. “Those represent three legendary statues.”

“Statues?” Lucas said, confused.

The nurse continued, “Legend says that they were statues brought to life by mysterious forces. Trainers still swear they see moving statues with these symbols on them, they are called Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.”

“Wow,” Lucas replied.

“The other legends are represented by the three backgrounds portrayed,” the nurse said, pointing to the three different backgrounds that split the tapestry into three equal parts. “The mountains represent Groudon, the pokemon that evaporated the great floods and made the lands of Hoenn. The water represents Kyogre, the pokemon that controls the rains. Legend tells of a great battle between these two pokemon in ancient times, and it was stopped by the third pokemon, represented here by the sky, a pokemon called Rayquaza. It cancelled Kyogre’s rains, and stopped Groudon from evaporating all the water. According to the legend, this is how the land of Hoenn as it is known was created.”

“Kyogre!?” Lucas exclaimed. “That’s the pokemon those people were talking about.”

“What people?” the nurse asked.

“They called themselves Team Aqua, said something about seeking the oceans for it,” Lucas explained.

“Yes, Team Aqua,” the nurse said. “Indeed, they think Kyogre is real, and they have sought it for a long time to use its powers to flood all lands and rule a world completely covered in water.”

“That’s horrible,” said Lucas.

“That’s not all,” she continued. “There is another team seeking Groudon, called Team Magma, but they stay on land. Both of them have been reported stealing people’s pokemon all over Hoenn so that they can achieve their goal of capturing the legendary pokemon.”

Lucas thought about this for a moment, but wanted to get back to the tapestry. “Does it tell anything else?” he asked.

“Yes,” she answered. She pointed at another group of symbols, a red dragon and a blue dragon surrounding a star. “The dragons represent the two Eon pokemon, Latias and Latios. They possess extraordinary powers, but only as long as they’re together. If they ever separate, it could mean destruction.”

“Cool,” Lucas said.

“And there is one more,” she continued. “The star in the center is Hoenn’s greatest legend, a wishing star. It is said to grant any wish that you want. Many people say that this star dances around in the sky, and that led to it being thought of as a pokemon, called Jirachi.”

“Cool, a wish pokemon,” Lucas said.

“Hey, Lucas,” Scott said. “Our registration is done; time to get on the road.”

“Ok,” he replied. “I have to go now; it was nice talking to you.”

“Thank you, be sure to come back sometime,” she said.

“This route heads to Petalburg City, where there’s a gym,” Scott said, consulting the map. “It looks long,” he added as he gazed off into the distance, seeing nothing but forest for miles.

“We’ll make it,” Lucas said. “We have pokemon, remember.”

The group trudged for hours along the route, and camped out at a spot next to a small lake. Diane let Mudkip out and it was swimming in lake. Lucas began to get curious about his own pokemon, and let out his Treecko to eat with him.

“I’m sure we’ll be best of friends.” Treecko right now was only enjoying some pokefood Diane had made, and was paying no attention. “If I can get you to listen to me,” Lucas added.

Just then, a furry, light and dark brown striped pokemon with ran up to Lucas and jumped onto his face, knocking him down.

“Ugh. What is this thing?” Lucas asked.

“Let’s see,” Scott answered, bringing out his pokedex.

Zigzagoon, the Tinyraccoon pokemon. It will eat any food it happens to find, and carries what it can’t eat to its nest. It is fascinated by any objects it finds and is often seen carrying rare items.

“What does it want with me?” Lucas said, and his question was answered as a small gray puppy pokemon came sniffing about the camp. It looked up and saw Zigzagoon and started to bark, “Poochyena! Poochyena!” Diane now tried out her pokedex.

Poochyena, the Bite pokemon. These pokemon always come in groups that always stick together. If one gets lost, it howls to let the other Poochyena know where it is.

It growled and made the Zigzagoon nervous, making it cling to Lucas with its claws.

“Ow! I think it wants the Zigzagoon,” Lucas panicked, and then the Poochyena started running towards him, and Lucas dashed away from it. “Treecko, stop Poochyena!” Treecko saw its trainer in trouble and it leapt onto the Poochyena, pounding it. Poochyena tried to shake off Treecko, but it was holding on tightly. Scott and Diane ran after them, with Mudkip getting out of the water to help out.

“Water Gun, Mudkip!” Diane called, and Mudkip sprayed the Poochyena with a stream of water, but it still kept running.

“Let’s help, too, Peck, Torchic!” Scott ordered as he threw his pokeball and Torchic ran up the Poochyena and got onto it like Treecko and started jabbing with its beak. The Poochyena couldn’t take this kind of punishment and collapsed, sliding to a stop in the middle of the road.

“Good job, Torchic!” Scott said.

“Thanks, guys, you too, Treecko,” Lucas thanked them.

“Ko,” Treecko said.

Lucas was still trying to pry the Zigzagoon off his face, but it was still clinging on for some reason. The Poochyena sat there, whimpering.

“I don’t understand,” Scott said. “Why does the Zigzagoon still feel threatened?”

The Poochyena let out a long howl, and soon many more Poochyena came out of the forest and grass.

“That’s why,” Diane commented. They were surrounded, and outnumbered. The Poochyena that was injured got up and leapt toward the Zigzagoon, saying “Ena!” It then ran off in the other direction, and so did the other Poochyena.

The Zigzagoon called “Goon!” and more Zigzagoon showed up and the Zigzagoon got off of Lucas and they all chased the Poochyena.

“It was all a game of Tag?” Lucas said, surprised.

“I guess so,” Diane said, laughing.

“It’s not so funny when the pokemon is playing tag with you,” Lucas snapped.

“Oh yeah, then how about this, Peck, Torchic,” Scott called.

“Chic!” It said, pecking Lucas on the face and Scott and Diane ran off in the other direction with their pokemon.

“Oh yeah! Come on, Treecko, we can get them!” he said, as Treecko and him chased Scott, Diane, and their pokemon through the path. After their little game, they stopped to rest, seeing some lights from Petalburg in the distance.

“It’s not too far now,” Scott said. Lucas could not stop thinking of the shadow he saw in the water, and thought about the story the nurse told him.

“It couldn’t have been Kyogre,” he mumbled to himself.

“What was that?” Scott asked him.

“Oh, nothing, just talking to myself,” Lucas replied. Scott only gave him a skeptical look, and went back to eating dinner.

“Only special trainers see legendaries,” thought Lucas. “If it was one, I wonder what’s so special about us.”

I'm truely sorry about this. Another filler. *sigh* Why do I bother?

Chapter 6: Don't Let the Nincada Bite

Petalburg, a neat little city with all that a trainer could ask for: a Pokemon Center, a PokeMart, and even a Pokemon Gym. Lucas was really interested in the gym, but it was getting late, so he and his friends were staying at the Pokemon Center for the night. Lucas could not sleep, though, he was too excited. The next morning, Lucas was up early, and woke up Scott and Diane, anxious to battle the first gym leader. They got dressed and ambled up to the Pokemon Gym, only find that it wasn’t open yet. Scott and Diane took this opportunity to get more sleep in, but Lucas was impatiently pacing in front of the entrance.

A boy with brown hair wearing a white shirt and khakis came up to them and said, “I’m sorry, the gym is closed until further notice.”

“What? Why?” Lucas asked.

“The gym leader is helping his family move from Johto,” the boy explained. “I am one of his apprentices, Mark”

“Hello, I’m Lucas,” Lucas said. “The gym leader is from Johto?”

“Yes,” he answered. “They say he’s pretty tough, and from what I’ve seen, he is.”

“Cool,” Lucas commented. “However, he’s gonna be pretty mad if I don’t get his Slakoth back,” the apprentice continued.

“Slakoth?” Lucas said, turning on his pokedex. It showed a light brown sloth with a round pink nose and dark brown stripes.

Slakoth, the Slacker pokemon, it moves so slowly that an algae grows in its fur, giving it a green color that it uses for camouflage. This pokemon lives in trees using its long claws to climb.

“Can we help?” Lucas asked.

“Maybe,” Mark answered. “It would be better to have four people looking for it than one.”

“What happened to it?” Lucas said.

“Well, Slakoth hasn’t been able to sleep for days,” Mark explained. “It keeps being woken up by a noise in the nearby Petalburg Woods. It got pretty mad, and went into the forest, where I never saw it again. I saw that all the Slakoth in Petalburg Woods were also deprived of sleep, and I found out what was making the noise: a bug pokemon called Nincada.”

Diane woke up with this word. “Bug pokemon?” she said.

“Yes,” Mark said. “It has been keeping all the pokemon awake, and even Slakoth, with its lazy lifestyle, needs rest.”

Diane got up and startled Scott, who was still half asleep. “Let me at ‘em!” she exclaimed. “Bug pokemon are a nuisance, and they should all be squashed.” She stormed off in the direction of the forest.

“Wait!” Mark called to her. “You didn’t hear why there’s so many of them there.”

Scott got up and said, “Could someone please tell me what’s going on here?”

While Mark explained, Diane was already deep in Petalburg Woods with Mudkip out and a serious expression on her face. The forest was so overgrown that it seemed like nighttime inside. Diane could hardly see a thing unless it was almost next to her. Soon, she saw a white cricket-looking pokemon with brown forelegs and small green wings. She took out her pokedex, and saw what it had to say.

Nincada, the Trainee pokemon, it uses small air sacs in its body to make a noise when the temperature gets hot. When groups of these pokemon gather, the noise can be enough to wake a Snorlax.

“Mudkip, Water Gun, Exterminate all that you find,” Diane commanded, and Mudkip drenched the bug in water, making it faint. It saw more of them, and it shot water at all of them, but then a Treecko appeared and stopped Mudkip by pinning it down.

“Stop, Diane,” called Lucas. “You don’t know what you’re doing.”

“Yes I do,” she answered. “I hate bugs, and that boy said that these bugs were causing trouble. I am getting rid of them for you.”

“You also didn’t hear the rest of what I was going to say,” Mark said. “This is the mating season for Nincada, if we just wait, they’ll leave on their own.”

“And how long will that take?” Diane asked.

“This is the last day, they should be gone by tomorrow, and the pokemon will finally be able to sleep,” Mark explained.

“We’re here to find Slakoth, though,” Scott said. “And since we’re already here, I suggest we split up to cover more ground.”

“Good idea,” Mark said. “Diane, you can continue on this path, but promise to leave the Nincada alone.”

“Ok,” she said, returning Mudkip to its pokeball.

“Lucas, you take the west path, it leads to a Slakoth nest,” Mark continued.

“Can do,” said Lucas.

“Scott, you take the east path, it doesn’t have a lot of Nincada, so Slakoth could’ve gone there to sleep.”

“You can count on me,” Scott said.

“I’ll take this side path; I’ve heard rumors of when Slakoth gets mad, it suddenly gets active and wants revenge,” Mark explained. “It would follow this path and attack the Nincada’s mating grounds. Ok, let’s go.”

Splitting up to their assigned paths, the trainers all went searching for the lost Slakoth. Lucas found the Slakoth nest, but all the nests were abandoned. Scott also found nothing on his quiet path. Diane had to hold back her urge to attack the Nincada, but continued on her path, also finding nothing. Mark’s path, however, held interesting results: all the sleep-deprived Slakoth, including the one he was looking for, were migrating towards the Nincada mating grounds. He ran back, met up with the others, and led them down his path, taking a shortcut straight to the mating grounds. There, they saw hundreds of Nincada, making enough noise to keep them awake for days. The Slakoth soon arrived, all with angry expressions, and apparently led by the gym leader’s Slakoth.

“Slaaaaaaakoth,” it drawled, and a great battle began. The Slakoth charged forth, and were met by the Nincada’s String Shots. The trainers watched in horror as Slakoth and Nincada alike fell from wave after wave of attacks.

“Somebody has to stop this,” Mark cried. Then, the gym leader’s Slakoth roared, stopping the others.

“That was easy,” Lucas said, but then, Slakoth glowed with a bright white light, getting a lot larger, and began to stand on two legs. He also grew red hair on its head and its light brown fur turned pure white.

“What’s this?” Scott asked, turning on his Pokedex.

Vigoroth, the Wild Monkey pokemon, something makes Slakoth active, causing it to evolve into this pokemon. Once it does, it becomes so restless that it can’t sleep without violently tossing and turning all night.

Lucas, Scott, and Diane stared in awe at this pokemon, but then they noticed Mark wasn’t with them, and was standing in front of Vigoroth.

“Don’t do it!” they all yelled. Vigoroth was about to finish off the Nincada itself, but Mark stood in its way.

“Please don’t harm the Nincada, Vigoroth,” he said. “They can’t help that they create so much noise. It’s their mating season, and they just want to be left alone. Please, Vigoroth.”

The pokemon looked at him, thinking. It then roared, “Vigoroth!” making the Slakoth retreat.

“Thank you, Vigoroth,” Mark said. “It’s time for you to return to the gym. Return, Vigoroth!” He held out a pokeball, and a red beam sent Vigoroth inside of it. Back at the gym, Mark put the pokeball back with the rest of the gym leader’s pokemon.

“Thanks, guys,” he said. “Vigoroth is sleeping well now, or at least as well as a Vigoroth can sleep.”

“Thanks,” Scott said.

“Call us again if you have any more bug problems,” Diane said. “By the way, where’s the next gym anyway?”

“Oh, there’s a gym in Rustboro, just beyond Petalburg Woods,” Mark answered. “Where’s Lucas?”

They looked around, and saw Lucas sleeping soundly on the gym floor.

Ok, just to be easier on you, here is the last chapter I wrote before I got Ruby. Yes, I wrote all this before I even got the game. I promise the next one is good. Please don't have abandoned me because of my anime like tendencies.

Chapter 7: Double Date

The next day, Lucas woke up and the group started early on their adventure. Lucas was thinking he should’ve caught another pokemon by now, so he began to send Treecko out at anything that moved, but the woods were full of a red spiky caterpillar called Wurmple now that the Nincada were gone. Lucas did not want anything to do with the bug pokemon. They camped out in the middle of the forest and Diane made another delicious dinner. As they ate, Lucas looked up at the treetops and noticed a small blue bird with red between its eyes and on its breast, and a white belly.

“Taillow,” it sang.

Lucas didn’t want to disturb it since it didn’t notice they were there. He whispered to Treecko, “See that bird?”

“Ko,” it replied.

“Climb up the tree and get it for me, ok,” Lucas said.

“Treecko,” it whispered back.

Lucas watched as Treecko climbed high into tree and snuck on the bird, capturing it in its arms. “Good work, Treecko. Go, Pokeball!”

Treecko let go of the Taillow and let it be captured by the pokeball.

“That’s not a fair way to capture a pokemon,” Diane said.

“Yeah,” Scott added. “Besides, you’re supposed to weaken it first, or it won’t catch.”

The pokeball wobbled twice, and Taillow broke out of the ball, furious.

“See what I mean?” Scott said.

“Ugh, Treecko, Pound!” Lucas called, and Treecko leapt from the tree and pounded the Taillow from above. It didn’t like this and started flying around pecking at Treecko. It seemed to be in a lot of pain.

“Hang in there, Treecko,” he told it. “Use Quick Attack!”

Treecko disappeared from that spot, and Taillow got confused and started looking around for it, but Treecko caught it unaware and pounced on top of it.

“Now, go, Pokeball!” Lucas cried, throwing another pokeball and clenching his fist as the ball wobbled three times before confirming his catch. “Yes! I got Taillow!” he proclaimed, but he didn’t get any applause. “Aren’t you gonna congratulate me?”

“You still have a lot to learn,” Scott said. Diane only shook her head. They continued on their way, finally finding the end of the forest, but also finding that there was still quite a distance to Rustboro. There was a river in their path, and they had to cross a wooden bridge. On this bridge, they battled many fishers, who mostly had Magikarp, and they were beaten easily. Two identical girls came down the bridge, wearing identical pink dresses and white shirts.

“So, you’re good trainers,” one said.

“But you haven’t faced us yet,” the other continued.

“We will fight two of you,” the first girl began.

“And it will be a two-on-two battle,” the other girl added.

“Ok,” said Lucas. “Will you use two pokemon each?”

“Not that kind of two-on-two battle,” the first girl said.

“Two pokemon simultaneously,” the other continued.

“They’re right,” Scott said. “According to the brochure, the Hoenn League has introduced a new kind of pokemon battle where a single trainer can use two pokemon simultaneously, but you have to be fighting more than one trainer at once.”

“Really? Cool,” Lucas said.

“So, which ones…” the first girl began.

“…will we be fighting?” the other girl finished.

“I will,” Lucas answered.

“Count me in, too,” Diane said.

“Very well, I am Amy, and this is May,” said the first girl.

“And we will show you how a true battle goes,” May said.

They then spoke in unison, “Go, Seedot and Lotad!” They both threw pokeballs, and one formed into the same acorn pokemon as Sherry, and the other formed into a blue, four-legged, billed pokemon with a lily pad on its back. Diane turned on her Pokedex.

Lotad, the Duck Weed pokemon, it likes to float across lakes using the lily pad on its back, it also uses the lily pad on its back to gather rain and sunlight for photosynthesis.

“Time to see what you’re made of, go, Taillow,” Lucas called.

“And I will be using Mudkip,” Diane said.

“Seedot, Bide!” Amy called.

“Lotad, Water Gun!” May commanded.

“Mudkip, Water Gun back at Lotad!” Diane told her pokemon.

“Taillow, Peck at Seedot!” Lucas directed his pokemon.

The Water Guns of Lotad and Mudkip clashed, and Taillow pecked at Seedot, causing a lot of damage.

“Lotad, get Taillow off of Seedot,” May said.

“Once it is off of you, aim your attack at Mudkip, Seedot,” Amy ordered.

Lotad turned its Water Gun on Taillow, sending it away from Seedot, and then, Seedot glowed red and hit Mudkip, dealing a severe damage to it.

“There must be a way to end this faster,” said Lucas.

“Maybe there is,” Diane answered. “See how May uses Lotad to protect Seedot? If we use both of our pokemon to take it out, then Seedot will be left alone to fight our two pokemon, giving us the advantage.”

“Good plan, but what if Seedot attacks? It hits hard,” Lucas asked.

“Then use Taillow,” she suggested. “It seems to do a lot of damage to Seedot. All we need is a few moments, and Lotad is ours.”

“Ok, let’s do it, then,” Lucas said. “Taillow, Peck Lotad.”

“Attack Lotad as well, Mudkip,” Diane called.

“Seedot, Bide,” Amy said.

“Lotad, Water Gun them both,” May ordered, but Lotad was only able to aim at Taillow, and Mudkip used its Water Gun to make the way clear for Taillow to ram Lotad with its beak.

“All right! Finish it, Mudkip!” Diane cheered to her pokemon.

“Not so fast. Now, Seedot, attack Mudkip,” Amy told the acorn as it ran and leapt toward Mudkip.

“Taillow, Peck at Seedot now,” Lucas commanded, and Taillow flew up to Seedot, stopping its attack.

“Thanks, Lucas, now to finish Lotad. Mudkip, Quick Attack!” Diane yelled.

As Taillow continued pecking at Seedot, Mudkip charged at Lotad, making it faint.

“Lotad, return,” May said sadly.

“We’re not finished yet,” Amy said.

“Now we bring up our defense,” May continued.

They then called out in unison, “Seedot, Harden!” A white strip of light went over Seedot, indicating its harder shell.

“Not even its harder defense can withstand the both us,” Diane said.

“Mudkip! Taillow!” Diane and Lucas said. “Quick Attack!”

Both of the pokemon rammed Seedot, and not even its harder shell could withstand the blow. It also fainted, and Amy returned it.

Scott broke into applause. “Excellent battle, I’ve never seen anything like it!”

“Indeed, good battle,” said Amy. “You work well together, that kind of teamwork will certainly bring you success in the Hoenn League,” May added. The twins let them pass, allowing them to cross the bridge.

“Do you think there will be more two-on-two battles like that?” Lucas asked.

“I don’t know,” Scott answered. “It certainly is an interesting way to battle, I must try it sometime, but I’ll need another pokemon first.”

“Oh great, here we go again,” Diane commented.

The three had a laugh over it and then Diane noticed something-a skyline full of lights. “Rustboro! We’re almost there.” The three trainers camped out there so that they could have plenty of rest and continue on to the city.

Yay, an R/S fic! Playing Ruby certainly inspires me to write about my PC and her adventures. And you've done all this without playing, too. ^.^

I must say this: If you don't enjoy writing filler, then don't. No one's forcing you to make this a 26-chapter anime script. ^_~ They're cute scenes, yes, but if you feel they're weighing down the larger story at hand, then condense them to a couple of lines in a chapter to show passage of time.

Your Team Aqua pair sounds promising. I'm interested to see how they'll interact with Magmas.

Thanks. I needed that. It's not that I don't like writing these kind of chapters, I thought no one else would like them. That's pretty silly, huh? I should want to tell my story my own way.

Yeah, I wanted to do a Ru/Sa story, that was the whole premise. These 7 chapters were indeed written before I got Ruby, and were corrected with the right poke info later. Chapter 8 and beyond were written after I got Ruby because I didn't know what pokes Roxanne had until I had played the game.

I really liked writing this one. I've been raving about it since I wrote it. This one is dedicated to Mild Altaria, who got me to continue writing this in the first place.

Chapter 8: Roxanne Rocks!

Rustboro was an old city with gothic architecture and old style street lamps. It had many old skyscrapers.

“We’ll be lucky to even find the Pokemon Center in this big place,” Lucas said, as the group strolled down the main street of the city.

“There’s one,” Scott almost shouted, pointing at the familiar domed building.

While they had their pokemon healed, Lucas was looking out a window, and noticed a long, one story building across the street with small children playing outside. “What’s that place?”

Diane looked out the window. “Oh, that must be a pokemon trainer’s school. They teach everything there is to know of pokemon, and the students grow to be strong trainers, some even becoming gym leaders.”

“I suppose it would be worth checking out, then,” Scott said. They went over to the school, and some of the children were having practice battles on a marked battle field, and some were simply playing games with their pokemon.

A young woman was overseeing the battles, giving instructions and acting as referee. She noticed the group of trainers and came over to them. “Hi, I’m Roxanne, Welcome to the Rustboro Pokémon Trainer’s School, how can I help you?”

“Hi, I’m Lucas, and this is Scott and Diane,” Lucas said, pointing to his friends. “We just wanted to check this place out, it looks interesting.”

“Then you might be interested in seeing what we teach here,” Roxanne said. “Follow me, and I will give you a tour.”

They followed Roxanne as she showed them numerous classrooms teaching everything from the types of pokemon to pokemon breeding. Diane liked that class, and started showing off her Mudkip to the impressed expressions of the students. Scott liked the class on Fire types and demonstrated how Torchic does its Ember attack. Lucas, however, didn’t have any particular interest in mind.

“Ah, then I see you must like a lot of things about pokemon,” Roxanne said. “Maybe you can help me with my class that’s practicing battles right now.”

“Yeah, I would like that,” Lucas replied with a smile. Lucas got out his Treecko and Taillow and had a few battles the students, showing them a few of the things he had learned.

The three trainers met up with Roxanne again, thanking her for showing them the school.

“Thank you, too, you really helped out around here. I think you’ll do great against the gym leader here,” she said.

“You’re welcome,” they all said, and left the school to go to the gym.

The gym was further downtown and next to a large gothic building with a logo saying, “Devon Corporation, for all your living needs, we make it all.”

“They must be like Silph back home,” Diane commented.

“We can check it out later, I want to see what the gym is like,” Lucas said.

“Why don’t you two check out the gym, I’m curious about this place,” Scott suggested.

“Sounds good,” Lucas replied.

“Don’t be too long or you’ll miss all the action,” Diane told him.

“I won’t,” he replied. “See ya later.”

As Scott went off to Devon, Lucas and Diane entered the gym, and found a large rocky field, but no one there. Suddenly, Roxanne from the trainer’s school entered and greeted them. “Welcome, I am the leader of this gym, and I suppose you’re here for a battle.”

Lucas and Diane were surprised, and then Diane stepped forward. “Yeah, we’re here for a battle, and I’ll go first.”

“Very well,” Roxanne replied, and with that a referee stepped onto the side of the field, and announced, “The Rustboro gym leader has accepted the challenge of Diane Swellow from Vermilion. Each trainer will use one pokemon, and there is no time limit. Winner receives a Stone Badge. Trainers ready, let the battle begin!”

“Go, Geodude!” Roxanne called as she sent out a gray rock-looking pokemon with long stony arms.

“This will be a cinch, Go, Mudkip!” Diane said as she released her pokemon onto the field.

“Geodude, Defense Curl,” Roxanne ordered.

“Geodude,” the rock called as it wrapped its arms around its body, curling into a perfect ball.

“Mudkip, Water Gun,” Diane barked, and Mudkip unleashed its familiar jet of water from its mouth, only to watch it be deflected off Geodude.

“Geodude, Rollout,” Roxanne said, and Geodude dropped to the ground, still in its ball, rolling toward Mudkip, hitting it head-on.

“Muuudkip,” it cried, stumbling back from the blow.

Diane was now worried. “Mudkip, Water Gun again.”

Mudkip sprayed another stream of water at Geodude, but it still deflected. Geodude then dropped to the ground and rolled at Mudkip a little faster, knocking it head over heels to the side.

“Rollout’s power will continue to get stronger the longer this goes,” Roxanne commented. Geodude was coming around for another attack, at an even faster speed.

“Mudkip, watch out!” Diane cried, and Mudkip barely moved out of the way, but it got slightly grazed by Geodude.

“Try your Mud Shot, that should still be effective,” Diane suggested.

Mudkip watered the ground beneath him, but Geodude was coming back still faster. The amphibian leaped over Geodude and landed in his mud hole and kicked the mud in a steady stream at Geodude. Roxanne’s pokemon turned around and was hit by the mud while it was off guard.

“Good job, Mudkip,” Diane cheered. “Now, Water Gun.”

Mudkip sprayed its water again, and this time, Geodude could not deflect it. It sent flying into the gym wall, where it was knocked out.

“Geodude is unable to battle, the winner is Diane.”

“We did it, Mudkip!” Diane cried, picking up Mudkip and hugging it.

“Kip!” it said happily.

“Geodude, return,” Roxanne said. “Good job, here is the Stone Badge.” She handed Diane a badge with two opposing points, the left one slightly lower than the right.

“Thanks,” she said.

Scott came in at that moment, carrying a sack full of items. “Hi, guys, did I miss anything?”

“I won the Stone Badge,” Diane showed him. “And now it’s Lucas’s turn.”

Lucas gulped and then stepped forward to face the gym leader himself. He was really nervous as he fingered the two pokeballs on his belt. “If I choose Treecko, I have an advantage, but her pokemon seem to know how to defend their weaknesses” he thought.

“You did well teaching my students today, Lucas,” Roxanne said. “That’s why you get to face my best pokemon. Go, Nosepass!” She threw a pokéball, and it released a statue with a big orange nose.

“What is this?” Lucas wondered, turning on his pokedex.

Nosepass, the Compass pokemon, it has a keen sense of smell that it uses to guide trainers wherever they’re going. Its nose is also magnetic and thus it always knows which direction is north.

“Let’s show them what we can do, Treecko,” Lucas said as he released the gecko onto the field.

“The trainer Lucas challenges the gym leader Roxanne, let the battle begin!” the referee announced.

“Nosepass, trap him with Rock Tomb,” Roxanne ordered. Nosepass’s nose glowed and it summoned rocks in Treecko’s direction, and sent them crashing down, burying the Treecko beneath.

“Treecko!” Lucas cried. Treecko climbed out from under the rocks, but looked pretty beaten.

“Can you still battle?” Lucas asked it.

“Treecko,” it said wearily as it got onto the ground again.

“Then dazzle it with Quick Attack,” Lucas called, and Treecko shot around the arena.

“Rock Throw, Nosepass,” Roxanne ordered, and Nosepass summoned more rocks to try and hit Treecko, but he dodged them and smacked Nosepass in the side, making it stumble.

“Absorb, Treecko,” Lucas said, and Treecko turned around and latched onto Nosepass and leeched it energy, healing its bruises.

“Nosepass, Rock Tomb it again,” Roxanne barked, and Nosepass summoned rocks to bury Treecko again.

“Treecko, Quick Attack it again.” Treecko shot around the arena, but Nosepass made the rocks home in on it. Treecko was worried, and tried to shake off the rocks but it couldn’t.

“Treecko, send the rocks at Nosepass,” Lucas suggested, and Treecko ran towards Nosepass, sending it off balance again, and then it got hit by the rocks instead of Treecko.

“Yes! Finish it with Absorb, Treecko,” Lucas called as Nosepass broke out from underneath the rocks. Treecko latched onto it again and drained what energy it had left, making it collapse to the ground.

“Nosepass is unable to battle, the winner is Lucas!”

“Good job, Treecko!” Lucas cheered his friend.

“Ko!” it said, and it started to glow. Its body got bigger and its head became triangular. It grew leaves out of its head and arms; its tail leaves straitening out and getting longer.

“Wow, what’s this?” Lucas said.

Grovyle, the Wood Gecko pokemon, the evolved form of Treecko. It is well adapted to living in the trees and uses its leaves to glide from tree to tree. It also uses these leaves to perform a powerful Grass attack called Leaf Blade.

“You evolved for me?” Lucas said to it. “Thanks.”

“Grove,” it replied. Lucas and Roxanne both returned their pokemon.

“Well done, Lucas, here is the Stone Badge for you, too,” Roxanne said.

“Thank you,” he said. “Hey guys, I got a Stone Badge!”

“Congratulations,” Scott commented.

“Yeah, your new pokemon is great,” Diane added.

They said goodbye to Roxanne and left the gym.

“Hey Scott, what’s with the bag?” Lucas asked.

“Oh, I got some neat stuff as a promotion for going on a tour of Devon Corporation,” he explained. He pulled out a round orange device and opened it. “This is a Pokemon Navigator, or PokeNav. It is a portable map of Hoenn so we won’t have to rely on the brochure anymore.”

Lucas looked at the screen and saw three digital representations of their faces showing they were in northern part of Rustboro. “Cool,” he said.

“I also got one of these for each of us,” Scott continued as he pulled out a completely white pokeball with a yellow stripe across the middle instead of black. “This is a Premium Ball. They said it would be good to try pokemon with it, as it is stronger than normal pokeballs.”

“Wow, thanks, Scott,” Lucas said.

“Yeah, these will come in useful,” Diane commented.

“Thanks, guys,” Scott blushed.

*poke* You can't stop writing it now, since you have the game to fuel you with info. Roxanne does indeed rock, and how kind of her to take on two trainers with each of her pokémon. o_O She must've been feeling generous.

I cannot stress this enough, mkay? Don't worry if you don't have reveiws right away. Some of us are kinda busy. *looks around innocently* And in between the time, you can work on your next chapter. Don't push yourself into uploading one per day... some of us can't keep up, for one, and also, you'll be so busy trying to meet your deadline that you might write something bad. A work of art takes time.

Wow, I should be a lecturer. Think I'll go apply at Celadon U. ^^

I don't usually do what I did with Chapter 7, but felt like I needed to get to Chapter 8 faster so that I could get readers back. I usually pace myself at one chapter every 3 days. At that rate, I can put up 3 chapters a week. I do, however, like to maintain that what I'm writing right now remains 10 chapters ahead of what I have up. Don't ask me why, I just think it's a good number, but that has put a lot of stress on me lately because I've had to catch up with putting so many chapters up at once. I still have a lot to go, too. Where I am writing, only one of my characters has fought Wattson. I made the battle too long for me to do both character's battles in a single chapter. My problems were stated in the other thread. :p I'm sorry if my dedication is not enough. If this is why no one likes this, I will stop here and now.

Sorry for double posting, but I thought this would get someone's attention. Should I put up everything that I have written so far so that you can see what I mean, or is there no one interested? If so, at what pace should I put it up? There are 9 completed chapters I have not put up(probably 10 by later today). In other words, up to Chapter 17.

EDIT: I have Chapter 18 ready now, and part of 19.
