Alright, I'm having trouble leveling my team up in Ruby. I'm currently at Dewford Town, and all the pokemon there are something like Level 11 and below, and I need to get my team up to Level 14 or 15 before I want to risk battling the gym leader. D: It's taking a long time, and I'm wondering how any of you all leveled up when you played Ruby/Sapphire?

Did you fight all the trainers you see? Sometimes I skip fighting all the trainers, so I don't get my Pokemon leveled up in time.

Aron gives a lot of exp. for that point in the game. If you don't have anything that can defeat it, then you're in a lot of trouble. Yeah, I usually fight every trainer I can find to build up exp, too. Brawly may take more than L:14 pokes to beat, though, unless you are really really good.

You can also just walk around where there's a lot of Pokemon, and fight every single one, even the weak ones. They still give you experience points.

I never found a need to level up pokemon... I usually trained 2 or 3 maximum (certainly only 1 or 2 early on) through the course of the game, just battling the in game trainers. A particularly effective combination to complete the game with is Swellow + Swampert.

I think you're early enough in the game to restart... Build a team after completion; trying to do both things simultaneously messes with your EVs and slows down progress.

Swellow and Swampert? That's sounds interesting, but why is it effective?

* They cover each others few weaknesses.
* Taillow levels up quickly (fastest possible growth rate) and learns wing attack at level 13
* The first 4 gyms are a breeze
* If you train nothing else, they will have no problems with the other 4 gyms either
* Swellow has the stats where they count, speed and attack; and has easy access to STAB moves
* The combination covers the only 2 useful HMs after completion (fly and surf)

Yeah, I beat all the trainers up until there. I was afraid of that. >_> So only thing to be done is battle the wilds, alright.

The only reason I'm fretting about it is because I need them leveled up for JAA, since I want them at a decent level (preferably around LV. 25-35), even though I'm not in the tournament. :3

I'd hate to burst your bubble, but unless you're trading with someone that really needs those pokes, or they have really good stats/nature, they will spit at you. It's even worse if you're just battling some random person, because more than often, they will have L:100s.

I'm actually expecting that, and have been the last...eh, week and a half? I'm really doing the equivalent of walking into a lion's den with a twizzler as a weapon, though 35- is just a goal really. If I can get higher, horrah, I'm for it, but as it is...eh, most likely won't happen.

You can catch a Ralts, although it's very rare, before you even get to Dewford. And you can get Abra in Dewford Cave...although it doesn't learn any Psychic attacks until L16 when it evolves. But with Ralts and Taillow or Wingull (or both) you should be fine against those Fighters.

Yeah, I have a Taillow, though I haven't caught a Ralts or Abra yet. I'm mainly having trouble with the levels...I mean, when the wild pokes are Level 12, the trainers level 18, and the leader level 22, it just doesn't wanna work out all that well. D:

That's where training a bit more in the areas leading up to Dewford comes in. :p And I'm not sure, but I think you can go to Slateport with Briney before beating Brawly, so you can go there and battle the kids on the beach if you want, then go back to Dewford. And keep in mind that since you'll have the type advantage and probably the speed advantage, the level disadvantage doesn't mean as much.

Speaking of type advantages, you could catch a Tentacool if you want. Their Poison type is resistant to Fighting, sometimes people forget that. And they're fast too.

Did that and beat him after a few hours of battling wild pokes and trainers in Slateport. And I just beat the third leader, the electric one, but only after...oh, ten tries. -_- I'm so out of touch, it isn't even funny. My team is horrible though, only...eh, three of them are really good, and that's Oddish, Taillow, and Makuhita. o.O Tentacool and the other two are slow on leveling up, and except for Spark on one of them, the attacks are iffy. I know I'm doing something wrong here.

Ralts evolves at level 20 and training one is definitely not worth the trouble while you are playing through the game. It has a very slow growth rate and is feeble until you get Kirlia. Most of the EVs early on are def/hp/spd/att too, not benefitting Ralts at all.

Ashura: your main problem is trying to train too many Pokemon - there is simply not enough experience to go around. Complete the game, then build a team AFTERWARDS. If you only trained 2 pokemon, for example Taillow and your starter, Brawly would have been straightforward and Wattson loses to Combusken/Marshtomp.

If you focus on completing first, you can usually finish the game by around the 5 hour mark. Thereafter you can start training more pokemon without messing up their EVs and levelling up quickly via the Elite 4.

Which of my pokemon should I work on though? So far I've been building onto Taillow, Electrike, Skitty, Oddish, Makuhita, and Tentacool. I know I want Oddish to be one of my main pokemon on the team, along with Pikachu if I get one, but of the others, which one to build up? Taillow? Tentacool? Because my starter was Treeko. x.x

Usually I just figure this stuff out as I go, but...gaah, I'm on too small a time constrant.
