Has anyone ever tried or succeeded into telling you lies about pokemon when you first started playing the game, whether or not they knew if it was true or not? Have you ever done the same thing to someone else?

For me it was my cousin who'd tell me all the lies, and he believed in them. He said that mesprit, uxie and azelf were all mews, that dragonite was a half legendary (not a pseudo legendary, but some sort of mythical creature) and a whole lot of other nonsense, and I even used to believe him!:banghead:

I'd heard from a friend that catching Missingno on some cartridges would spawn Ho-Oh or Lugia, who would then obliterate all life in Kanto. Yeah. On Red & Blue.

When my older brother was younger, he phoned up Nintendo asking how his Mew can learn Royal Bummage, like his friends said it could. He got a lecture on bullying.

Good guys.

My friend told me one that I actually believed about Gold and Silver:
When you catch all 250 pokémon, Professor Oak calls you up and gives you a GS-ball. This is to capture the only pokémon that you can't catch in a Master Ball, Celebi, pokémon #251. You find Celebi after you get the GS Ball by headbutting trees in the Ilex Forest. (So far there is still a vague core of truth in this. Now it becomes a complete bullshitstory:) After you catch Celebi, you run into Jessie, James, and Meowth (from the anime). They ask if you want to join Team Rocket. If you say no, they leave and there isn't really much for you to do in the game anymore. If you say yes, you join Team Rocket. The cool stuff that you can do:
-You get a car, which is basically a bicicle, except when you drive into someone you push them back. You can also drive in indoors.
-You can use this to get to the higher floors of the Kanto Radio Tower. Here is Team Rocket's new headquarters.
-In the headquarters is Giovanni. You can train against him. There is also a shop were you can buy master balls and GS balls.
-You can use the GS balls to steal pokémon from trainers while you battle. Then you can keep the pokemon or sell them to Team Rocket.
-If you steal all a trainer's pokemon, they run after you, and you run away automatically. The only exeptions are Elite Four and Red. If you steal all pokemon from an Elite Four, they disappear and you get to take their place and take really strong challengers, like Ash and Gary from the anime. If you steal all Red's pokemon, he says "Shit." and disappears.
-If a trainer whose pokemon you stole catches you, you get thrown in jail. You can only get out if you beat the policeman (who has a lv. 90 Arcanine), or if you call Giovanni, in which case Team Rocket breaks you out of jail, but you have to pay them lots of money like that.

And the most incredible of all is that I believed all this.

Can't really blame you for believing it. I mean, didn't we all want to join Team Rocket in the games? I know I did do.

Only thing I remember is someone who used to live on my block told me I could get to the top of Cinnabar's volcano in GSC by using Dodrio's Agility, and that once I was up there I could evolve my Charizard. Back then, of course, I was way too lazy to evolve a Doduo, so I never even found out the hard way that it was a lie.

With a mustache.

My friend once said that if you fished into the volcano of Mt. Chimney, you'd find a lava version of Lugia.

But finding Mew under the truck, and crap like that... I didn't hear about those rumors until long after they were proven to be fake.

Is this just lies we were told?
Or lies we made up?

If its the second, my mate wouldn't stop bothering me about how to get Mew (I had got one via the glitch).
So i told him you had to train a Jigglypuff to level 100, & using strength right where you would have found Mewtwo, opens a secret room, where you found the Mew.
Not only did he believe it
Not only did he not ask for the Jigglypuff i must have trained
But he actually did it, god was he pissed :)

some kid tolled me that a ratata was a legendary and i bealved him but it was back in silver.

How about getting your own gym? I knew this kid who had this whole story about how beating Red 36 times would get you a gym, an d how your rival would try and take it from you by right of conquest.

Unresolved
People kept saying that you can train a Pokemon over level 100 in Red. I did some research and found something about Missingno but that's it.

Video Game
You can catch Mew in Red and Blue.

Trading Card Game
HP was High Power despite the Rule Book clearly stating Hit Points instead.

Video Game
You can catch Mew in Red and Blue.

Are you saying that this is a lie??? Or have I understood it wrong, because Mew is completely catchable in Red and Blue (at least in the US versions, haven't tried other ones)

My friend tried to tell me before I got HGSS that after you beat Red, you got to battle Oak and then Oak gives you a Mew. He didn't seem to understand that if that actually happened, I would already know about it because of the internet.

And somebody at school told me that James' Growlie evolved. Again, I didn't believe them.

I had some friends say I could find Team Rocket in Pearl, Fish in puddles to find Clampearl, (Hope thats spelled right), and alot of other stupid things.

A very old lie from the R/B/Y era was that Bill had a unreachable secret garden behind his house that contained Mew..

A Mew in dark cave. Use rock smash on the right section of wall, which is different in every game, and if you pick wrong, you miss out.

I believed it.

I was convinced that you could Headbutt the tree in Ilex Forest right where that one guy stands, and it contained Celebi. And I believed the catching Jirachi on the moon by going up with the 100th rocket in Mossdeep.

I was the annoying older one. :D
My friend used to call me all the time to ask me questions about Ruby and Sapphire. I usually helped him, but sometimes I just felt like messing with him.
"How do you get to Mirage Island?"
"You have to restart your game, get a female Mudkip named Sally, never evolve her and then challenge the guy who sees the island to a battle."
"How do I get Treeko and Mudkip now?" (After he started with Torchic.)
"There's a hidden island near Mossdeep that you have to dive to that has all of the starters in it."
"How do I get past Team Aqua's Pokémon blocking the way out of Lilycove?"
"You have to cook them with Blaziken's fire attacks, then eat them with a side of beans."

He generally didn't believe the ridiculous ones like those. x) He did, however, believe some more believable ones that I've forgetten since then.

I just remembered one that my friend told me. He said that the wild pokemon on Stark mountain were all atleast lv70 or 80. I spent so long traing my pokemon over that, so when I did eventually get to Heatran, all the pokemon in my team would KO him in one hit, and the rest that were in my PC box would faint in one hit from Heatran!

One kid told me that if you beat the E4 on Ruby 40 times, Groudon would appear again (I had KO'd it).

My other friend tried explaining Yellow to me - through a mask of lies.

- You had Pikachu. Okay, well that was true.
- Pikachu would drive a car. That wasn't.
- Pokemon had eight attacks.
- You could automatically change your character's age.
- There was a bar that you had to be at least 21 to enter. When you did, there was a huge group of Pokemon demanding that you give them root beer and steak. You could then serve them the food and they would join your team. XD

FR/LG. Go get a Master Ball, and you'll be able to catch the Ghost. It failed.
