Two of my favorite animes of all time are Code Geass and Death Note and these shows share quite a few similarities. One of these is the main characters, Light also known by his alias Kira and Lelouch also known as Zero. A common debate is which of these two was an overall better character and why. In my opinion Lelouch was a superior character as he never strayed from his beliefs and never became what could be considered a villain, but that's just my opinion.

So, let's debate this. Who was superior? Please keep spoiling in tags and please no fighting.

I agree about Lelouch, as he is one of my favorite protagonists in anime. He kept to his goal, sacrificing for the sake of his ambition be it

Turning his friends against him, Euphemia, his rebellion force, his parents, and even himself in the end. Yet, how great he was and that last shot in the end of the last episode makes some, like me, believe he is alive.

all for the dream of a world where his sister, Nunnally can be happy. What brother would not want their family to be happy? What person would not fight for justice that was taken away from them? Lelouch is a superior character because he is very human. He has emotions, he was his reasons for doing things, and his motivation is true and clear. He takes what his thrown at him, and EATS IT!!!

I liked Light, but he was corrupted and turned from good to evil extremely fast

I also saw it as very self centered to try to make himself "god"

I found Light to be at the very least, more relatable.

I found Lelouch's initial change in personality when he received geass to be a bit unbelievable: He was living a relatively average school life, but didn't hesitate to command a messy mass suicide as his first order of business. Right in front of him. I found Light's developing dark tendencies to be a bit more well thought out, as he became more ambitious with time, and his crimes were initially committed in an extremely indirect manner (he was never up close and personal).

For someone as shrewd and wicked as Lelouch to have his long term goals rooted in such selflessness seemed a bit out of place, and not once did he falter from this (despite his methods becoming further and further from being considered noble). There are no such notions with Light, who looks to bend circumstances to his own will, and understandably ends up entering a downwards mental spiral, culminating in his sorry state at the conclusion.

Because Light had more apparent flaws, was more dynamic, and was less glorified, he is a more believable character to me, and gets my vote.

After rewatching Death Note recently I can say one thing, Light went fucking bonkers. Talk about a downfall, if he kept his morals he could've won
