Lilycove University
Act I: Into the Great Wide Open

Theme song: Learning to Fly

The sun was beginning it's ascent into the skies above Hoenn, casting light across the ocean as a yacht, the Silver Gleam, continued it's course towards Lilycove City. The calls of wild Wingull could be heard all around as they flew in circles over boat. Onboard the transport vessel were Lilycove University's new freshmen students, about to begin the school year.

--

"You see, three is clearly a smaller number than a million." Tabitha said teasingly to the boy next to her.

"Oh, now I understand!" replied the boy, Daniel, sarcastically. Tabitha laughed to herself, before she noticed something rather large moving in the corner of her eye. She turned to face the ocean, seeing a large yacht approaching the school docks.

"Look over there, Daniel! That must be the new students!" Tabitha exclaimed, jumping out of her seat. She spruced herself up a bit, making herself look more presentable for the new arrivals. She brushed her longer, blonde hair behind her, tying it into a ponytail. She wore a navy-blue polo-shirt with the school's logo and simple jeans; not her ideal choice of clothing, but it was for orientation day only, so she put up with it. She had a similar colored wristband with a lighter-blue pattern on it, signifying that she was part of Lumineon house. She also had a small blue badge pinned on her polo, shaped like a wave.

"I guess playtime's over." Daniel said, though he wasn't disappointed; he was quite eager to meet the new students. He stood up as well, standing just behind Tabitha as he straightened out his own school polo shirt, his forest-green in color. Daniel ran his fingers through his short brown hair, wiping his bangs out of his eyes and donning his personal white cap. He too wore a wrist-band and badge, but green instead of blue, with his badge pinned to the visor of his cap.

"Wait, where's Jake?" Tabitha asked, noticing the Ninetales orientation leader's absence.

"He probably felt the need to brood, as usual." Daniel snickered as he thought of Jake sitting alone in his room, being all angst-y and moody. "He's probably sitting in his room right no--"

Daniel stopped mid sentence as he saw Jake approaching them from the dorms. His medium length black hair fell just over his eyes, swaying slightly in the breeze. He wore a polo-shirt similar to Tabitha and Daniel, but orange in color, with his badge pinned on his sleeve.

"Don't stop on my account." Jake remarked, having overheard the two talking. His voice didn't sound angry though, in fact he seemed quite cheerful for being up so early.

"Oh, h-hey, Jake. I, uh... I didn't see you there!" Daniel stammered, hoping he didn't offend Jake.

"Relax, it's fine." Jake reassured him, before turning to face the ocean. From up on the mountain where they stood, it was a gorgeous sight, the sun casting a brilliant orange glow across the ocean as it rose. From up here, they could almost see Mossdeep city. Several metres below, the ocean waves crashed against the mountain's rocky edge, echoing up towards the three orientation leaders. The large yacht cast it's shadow over the mountain's face. It was a beautiful sight, and the three of them didn't want to leave.

"Well, they'll be landing soon, so we'd better head on over to the docks." Daniel stated, bringing the trio's attention back to the matter at hand. With that, the three of them made their way over towards the docks to greet the new arrivals.

--

"Approaching LU Docks: ETA fifteen minutes. Please gather your belongings and prepare for departure."

The voice rang out over the intercom of the boat, alerting the students to their imminent arrival. It was about 7:00 AM, the boat rocking gently as it neared their destination.

Juliana sat on the edge of the ship, admiring the view of the mountain side where the school grounds stood. She had already woken up thirty minutes prior, unable to sleep due to a combination of anxiety and excitement. On one hand, she was eager to start learning all the ins-and-outs of being a trainer and traveling. On the other hand, her timid nature made her uneasy as to what her experience would be like. She sighed, unsure exactly how to feel about the whole situation.

She clutched her locket in her hand, thinking of her father's words just before she left for Lilycove.

"Don't worry, Julie. You'll do great, I just know it!"

The thought comforted her as she thought about how both her parents were feeling right now. She couldn't go back now, not after all the faith her parents put in her. No, she was going to stick it out, for their sake. She leaned on the side railing of the ship, looking down at the water below as she lightly tapped her foot on the floor.

(Scenario, please read):
((Scenario: Your characters are still on the boat, and, assuming they were sleeping, should just be waking up (Unless they're heavy sleepers, which I hope they aren't. :P). You may use this opportunity to introduce yourself to your fellow classmates, or just sit on the dock and enjoy the view. Please keep OOC posts out of the main thread. The sign-up thread will serve as a location for OOC discussions. Please post there or PM me if you have any questions. Thanks!))

Adèle's hazel eyes fluttered open as she sat up. Her long, brunette hair tumbled down her back in a bedhead mess. She stood up, took a shower, then changed her clothes. Lastly, she brushed her hair, before tying it in a ponytail. Stepping outside the dorm room, Adèle made her way towards Juliana outside.

It was morning on the boat, a young man was in his room just waking up. "Man this bed aches a good deal, my back is sorer than the time I was cycling around the same town for 3 hours," With medium short brown hair, dark brown eyes and with his muscles aching from the hard bed that turned out to be a lot smaller than he was. "I swear if I get this bed one more time, I'm throwing this piece of junk in the ocean. Let the Pokemon down there have something to deal with," Timothy stood there, shaking his head at the tiny bed. "Ahh I might as well get changed and actually smell decent,"

Tim who has the nickname Clark because of his father getting his name consistently wrong, tossed on some chinos and a shirt along with some sneakers. The shirt thankfully was not baggy but it didn't really show his muscles. Tim walked out and looked around, "Man the sun is amazing. I wish I could jump off this boat and go swimming," He started to stretch making sure that he was loose enough to actually do some running around the deck trying to get some exercise. With that the tall brown haired teen started to run around the deck on the boat.

While that was happening, a young woman was already awake. She was sitting peaceful on the deck trying to meditate. There was a certain elegance and grace when looking at this young woman. Her long brown hair with a touch of blonde, wispy and long, silky and well managed, had hazel eyes closed trying to concentrate in her inner meditation. It was something that she preferred as a wake-up to keep her in tune with herself. Diana Hughes was her name as she idly could hear the sound of the ocean and ocean based Pokemon making calls or noises from finding food to most likely mating with each other. She could swear that she could hear someone running around quickly around the boat but Diana had to keep her focus and concentration on this boat. She did have a feeling that someone would interrupt her though, it was something that actually would please her as she was a very outgoing person, willing to talk to anyone. Diana was sporting a simple pair of black leggings and a white top, she would have to change straight after her mediation was done.

Will had already woken up around 15 minutes before the announcement, though he preferred to stay in his room for now. He laid down on the bed of his room staring at the book he was reading as he brushed his hand past his long black hair. "So we're almost there huh?' he pointed out with a curious expression on his face before closing the book. His sole reason for joining the academy was the rumours that surrounded it so part of him was eager that they were finally arriving while the other was bored by the fact he would have to actually go to school as well. "Well, I guess it works this way," he shrugged before sitting up on the bed and looking down at the floor, his hand fidgeting with the golden coin-shaped pendant he had around his neck.

Lorelei quietly stood by the rails of the boat, her tired blue eyes staring out into the distance. She wasn't completely fond of views, and as such, she was doing this in hopes that she would wake up a bit more. The breeze blowing on her face seemed to be ineffective as she was still quite half asleep and only succeeded in wildly blowing her long brown hair everywhere. As the boat drew closer to land, Lorelei could notice a faint mountain range, something that she had never seen before. With a sudden burst of energy, she jumped up onto the rails and sat on it, letting her legs dangle off the sides.

Hanaeda, meanwhile, had been awake at the crack of dawn. It was in accordance with one of his mentor's principles: "A man's power comes from being awake early! Always get up at the crack of dawn so you can do push-ups and other manly shit like eating a gallon of bacon, you hear?!" Then usually he'd punch Hanaeda for sleeping too much. Hanaeda missed it a bit, but he'd have to make do.

After his morning push-ups, he prepared for the day, brushing his teeth, showering, and donning his clothes. Normally, he'd work on his tan, but the boat was just about to arrive. So he put on a white button-down shirt, and a simple black tie. Over this he wore a charcoal double-breasted jacket, tailored to accentuate his broad shoulders. And finally, he had on a pair of matching slacks and shoes.

Stretching, he emerged from the cabin, his shaggy brown hair freshly combed. He saw two other students who had already awoken: There was a somewhat short girl with long black hair, and another girl. This one had dirty blond hair, and really pretty eyes. Like holy crap, they had this weird thing where they were green, but had some kind of blue in them around the pupil. Hanaeda had never seen it before, and wondered if she wore contacts for it.

"Morning." He yawned, looking out at the sea. "Seen it yet?" He asked, referring to the academy. He saw, out of the corner of his eye, a very thin girl, who looked about half asleep. Ah, and some guy just ran by.

"Why is he running?" Hanaeda asked.

Juliana saw another girl, Adele, walking towards her. She started to panic slightly, before she mentally berated herself for being so paranoid.

"Calm down, Julie. It's just a fellow student. Just say 'hi.'"

"H-hello." she said to Adele. Before the other girl could answer, another student had approached from behind, asking about the academy.

"Hm? N-no, I haven't seen it. From what I've heard, though, it's really nice. Judging from this beautiful mountain view, I'm sure they were correct. As for your other question, I'm not sure why he's running..."

The girl seemed pretty freaked out, judging from her stutter.

"Nervous? You'll be fine." Hanaeada asked Juliana, resting a reassuring hand on her shoulder and smiling at her. He remembered what his mentor said: "If a girl seems nervous, comfort her, stupid!" Then he'd usually throw something at Hanaeda. Hanaeda just managed to stop himself from sucking to avoid some imaginary missile.

"I hear it's a pretty okay school. I wonder what Pokemon I'm gonna get?" Hanaeda asked. "I just hope it's not a Magikarp. My cousin for one at his academy."

Will yawned as he walked out of his room, he scratching the back of his head drowsilly and stared up at the morning sun, allowing the sea breeze to hit his face and making him smile. He noticed that there were other students out of their rooms already, raising an eyebrow in curiosity as he saw what was going on. "Interesting," he nodded his head and walked over to the rails so as to look down at the sea.

Serenity groaned as she had her head leaning over the railing of the boat. She spent most of her time on the boat with a queasy stomach due to not being familiar with the setting, and the constant rocking of the waves against the boat. She had her hair in a low ponytail, tied with a ribbon at the nape of her neck in case her nauseated stomach got the best of her. Her face was pale, and had a 'sickly' appearance to it. One would just assume its because of being on a boat, or even nerves. It was definitely the former. The teen made a mental note to ask her brother why he never mentioned to tell her about the possibility of being seasick.

"I don't think I'll be able to contain my excitement when we get on firm ground..." she muttered to herself.

"No, I'm fine," Serenity replied, "But thank you for asking. I'm sure I'll feel better once I get off this boat. I hate that people's first impression of me will be 'the sickly boat girl'." she put her hands over her face and shook her head. She really didn't want anyone to see her in this shape, but she had a moment of forgetfulness that made her fail to realize that she was on a boat with other people and that someone was bound to see her in this state.

Hearing the announcement from the intercom, it occurred to Duke that he hadn't actually gotten any sleep while on the yacht. He had, fortunately or unfortunately, become invested in a rather thick book and hadn't managed to put it down since he had settled himself on the bed. He closed his eyes, rubbed his forehead and let out an exasperated sigh, anticipating that he would find the next few hours excruciatingly tiring. With some excessive clinking of steel bangles and chains, he pushed himself to his feet, stretching his arms back behind his head to loosen himself up. He tossed the book carelessly at suitcase in the corner of the room, and then slid his hand into his pocket and pulled out his tarot deck.

Shuffling them with experience and skill, doing various tricks you might see from card sharks at casinos, he eventually drew the card at the top of the deck. It was a zero - The Fool. A card signifying excess potential that has yet to be applied. Duke rolled his eyes. Every person on this boat would draw that card. We're going to a school. Untapped potential is the whole point of us being here. He slipped the tarot deck back into his pocket, his morning 'fortune' ritual complete for the day. For as long as he had been interested in the arcane, it had been something that he had done every day, kind of for fun. Thankfully, he had only drawn the thirteenth card of the deck - Death - once in his life.

He swung open the door to his room and travelled up to the deck of the ship, where some of his fellow new students had already gathered. Though it went against his better judgement, given that he might encounter human interaction, he walked over to the stern of the ship and gave the horizon one of his unfortunate trademark terrifying glares, trying to spot the school in the distance.

Lorelei noted the sick girl and the boy, quietly listening to what their conversation was about. With a sigh she said, "We're almost there." She began to kick her legs back and forth in boredom, the ocean spray making her jeans slightly damp.

"I wouldn't say they'd recognize you by that," Will pointed out while scratching the back of his head. "But you really shouldn't feel bad, people believe what they want," he just shrugged as he looked at the girl before proceeding to look out in order to see if he could spot the academy. "Besides I'm sure there can be worse things you could be known for."

"True," Serenity chuckled a bit as she began to think of the worse things that someone could be known for, "I just don't think people will want to be around a sickly person. Even if it's just seasickness. I already don't have friends, so I assume I can't be worse off than I am now." she shook her head as she closed her eyes, trying not to focus on the waves hitting the boat. That would make her all the more nauseated.

With a shrug, Lorelei continued to stare out at the view. She wasn't excited to be going to the school at all because she was forced to attend. After a moment of thinking, she decided to be quiet for the rest of the boat ride.

"Careful there. I don't want to have to play lifeguard if you fall in." Hanaeda said to Lorelei playfully, sitting next to her, having kicked off his shoes. He was by nature a very outgoing person, although occasionally his friendliness rubbed people the wrong way.

"Think they'll make us climb that mountain?" He asked.

"I don't plan on falling in." Lorelei simply replied, crossing her arms with a groan. Good bye peace and quiet. "We better not climb that mountain." She added, looking out over the water.

Hanaeda frowned a bit. The girl seemed to want to be alone, if the fact that she crossed her arms and groaned out loud was anything to go by.

"I'll leave you to it, then." He said. He knew when he wasn't wanted. As he turned around, he noticed a guy about his age. He cod tell, he was a sharp one. He had a look in his eyes that said there was a good brain behind them. Next to him was an ill looking girl. She had eyes that said there was probably a normal brain behind them. And also that she was ill.

"Seasick?" He asked them. "There 's probably some ginger ale somewhere on board, it's good for that kind of thing."
